You are aware of Orden Ogan, right?

Barely, I just found them last night actually. Not feeling them though. I find the drums annoying and they have the type of modern production, 'modern metal' thing I dislike. And there is too much keyboards in what i heard.

God damn. I liked it from the beginning, but until the other day I didn't realize just how fucking good Pharaoh's latest is.

The new Satan rulz, I know it was expected but seriously, songs like 'Testimony' and the title track are incredible.

Avenger is the shibb. I've been revisiting them lately but they've always been a pretty special band for me. Killer Elite is slightly inferior but still totes listenwortyh stuff. I think my friend Hugo puts on shows for Avenger in Belgium/Holland - that was one of the key fav bands of mine i didn't get to see in Europe - along with Exciter and Metal Church, of course.

Wasn't even aware of new Satan album. Don't visit the forums much the last couple years. Need to change that. The obsessive nerds around here are sure to turn me on to some hot upcoming albums. On that note, i need to hear that new Attacker.

because he rules and I haven't seen him live yet, and he's done vocals for two of the bands playing, and he has a history with Houston. Maybe I'll see him with Helstar eventually.

at any rate, sick show, really excited. I haven't seen nearly enough heavy metal acts, mostly black/death.

I'd much rather see Vicious Rumors with Brian Allen. I've seen James Rivera live twice now, and he's good, but he just wouldn't fit their new material.

I dunno - they were dope in Berlin with Rivera. Had a good time partying with em.

Oh just let James get back to Helstar. I am really pumped for the new record.
And speaking of Seven Witches, that new record "Rebirth" is a fucking atrocity. Anthony Cross is an unbelievably awful singer and Jack Frost is all out of riffs. The only half decent thing on the entire absurdity was this piece called "True Blood", yeah, like the HBO show.

I'm not. All their stuff since they reformed has been boring modern thrash. Now, James Rivera's solo project on the other hand does hold some promise. I'm interested to see what he comes up with for that.

I've been listening to some Morgana Lefay. What's peoples feelings on them? They're listed as power/groove/thrash which shouldn't work, but it somehow does with them.

Pharaoh's Be Gone is really just great. Simply the best power metal band of the last decade.

Great band. Like a heavier, meaner Savatage - a mirror of what Savatage could've been in some parallel universe where they stuck to the Sirens sound forever. Grand Materia and Maleficium are kick ass.

I saw Helstar live at the beginning of this year and the setlist was more newer stuff than old. It was... not really unexpected, but still disappointing, to say the least. But hey, at least they played Toward the Unknown, which is a favorite of mine!

So the new Hibria is groovy and chugs a lot.

What the fuck.

My exact question - what happened to this band? Really? The first album was awesome but....this? Really? Not cool at all.

But I recently bought both Striker (Canada) albums and those are indeed very awesome. Anyone knows any modern bands like them?

Instead of changing vocalists in Rocka Rollas all the fucking time, Erik will stay with Blazon Stone, and we will bring back Josef from The War Of Steel for at least one more album!
However, that means we STILL wont have a full time vocalist, and that most likely means no gigs...
But we will probably have a totally awesome third album released early 2014.

Had no idea they were releasing a new album. Really the only one I've heard from them that I liked was Defying The Rules, which kicked ass.
Went and listened to 2 random tracks. Dear god this is some awful shit.

To be fair, Blind Ride is kinda down tuned in places, more chuggy and has a slightly different vibe in comparison to the previous albums. I haven't heard anything from this new one (and wasn't aware they had released a new one until now), but I can understand if the new one is something along the same lines.

I loved the first two, especially The Skull Collectors. People seem to not rate that one as much as Defying the Rules, but I think it's better. The guitar playing is showboating wankery on that one, but it works very well. Some of the solos are very exciting on it.

And The Grand Materia is fucking amazing. Whoever doesn't have that, should get it.

What's going on with Tad Morose? I ask only because I noticed their sister band Immoria is now entirely composed of the current TM line-up minus their new guitarist. Seems rather strange.

Been listening to the new Attacker and Satan albums. Pretty impressed with both. The Attacker one is a cool ruffular assault with tonnes of energy and enthusiasm, and some very Iron Maidenish vibes at times. The Satan album has a very odd, unique kind of air about it. Different than what i'd thought, but i didn't really know what to expect from the band really. Having not really heard anything of them since 80s releases. I enjoy it, but i think it's a grower - much like when i first heard that Hell album. Look forward to many more listens in the coming weeks.

Revisiting Leatherwolf lately, who have long been one of my favourite bands, i gotta say i think they might just be the perfect USPM band. Phenomenal. They have it all, really.

Found something recently you guys will want to hear. A rare as hell mcd from the darkest age of metal being the earlier 90's. It may be what I consider one of the most significant gems I have come across thus far. Think of early Blind Guardian perhaps, but thrashier and with a shrieker of a singer that just slays. if you can get it, check it out.

As sad as this all is, we at least have Urban breed and ex-Tad Morose guitarist Daniel Olsson in Trail of Murder. Which is the best Tad Morose album we'll get nowadays. Killer shit.

I can never say enough good things about Street Ready, seriously. On another note, Mercyful Fate's Return of the Vampire is really neat. The last 3 tracks are cool NWOBHM-y numbers (Spot the "Phantom of the Opera" riff!), and King Diamond even sings about destroying aliens!

His "whiny tone" is at full and maximum power on MDA. It's such a gem.

Leatherwolf are amazing. Each one of their first three albums is great; even the more commercial hard rock-ish tracks are just masterfully written. Their songwriting is just so damn polished and effortless.

Honestly dude, I like all three Rocka Rollas releases and the Blazon Stone one (and Mortyr), but Erik seems like a better fit for the Metal Strikes Back material. Josef is a great singer, but he's really over the top. Nevertheless, I look forward to it because you have yet to release something less than amazing!

I don't know if I got it right, but it seems like misunderstood Erik there :)

The War Of Steel - Josef
Metal Strikes Back - Joe Liszt
Blazon Stone - Erik

And yes Josef is a bit over the top but also the whole album was like that. The new album he's singin is way more refined, and a logical followup to Metal Strikes Back.

Sorry, what I meant was that I thought Erik would be a better fit for the general direction the music and vocals have gone on Metal Strikes Back. Joe is probably my favourite singer amongst the three though.

Awesome! Now if only Stormspell would open his store so I could buy these releases!

Haha yeah I know everybody has their favorite, and I can't please everyone. However I do agree that Josef wouldn't have made a powerful approach like Joe on Metal Strikes Back, and Joe wouldn't have made the debut as good as Josef did it. Totally different albums. Josef will fit the third one very well!
