Due to stress from a huge fight with my wife (still figuring out if we're divorcing each other or not) and the fact that I just ate at chipotle, I now have the shits. No bueno.

Also, after listening to my new music with Superior Drummer I've decided that I don't like how it sounds. More options, yes, but the setup I had with EZDrummer sounded better, so I'm going back to that. Changing everything back over is going to be a huge pain in the ass.

I did that 12 hour 20 song thing that infinitenexus made that thread about. Ended up with around 16 songs, 3 or 4ish are definite keepers, and a few of the others could work well too with some more polish (well they all need polish but you get what I mean.)

Listening back to all of it was really strange though, because frankly by the end of all that I couldn't remember what I had and hadn't done.

I'll have to do this again sometime, maybe next month or so.

Hey, thanks for the heads up about kunaki. That looks like a lot less of a PITA than going to Kinko's to print stuff and whatnot, plus probably way cheaper.

You are quite welcome! And it def is much cheaper than running to kinko's and then cutting it and fitting everything together.

Apple you going to post your best results up?

I'm gonna have to check that out in a bit. I love that songwriting challenge, it's such a good way to get yourself to just write a ton of music. And if you sort through your bad songs, you'll probably still have some good riffs or ideas in there! The past few days I've been trying to write a doom song each day. At least most of a song. I kinda like doom, well I guess death/doom. Just dark, low, heavy, and unhappy.

Also, since I've decided to release all this different music under different band names, I need to think of about 2 new band names. So that'll be fun. Only a Shadow Remains sucks and it took me like 15 years to think of that name, so I'm pretty much fucked when it comes to this.

Find a band that's an influence on that style for you, and dig through song titles until you run into something that nobody's used as a band name yet?

just go through a history book and pick out some obscure bloody battle or something.

quite a few of my bands are based on war related materials.... 54R.. the round used most commonly in Dragunov.... the gun that fires that round and Bunker Buster the nickname to the bomb that's designed to penetrate underground facilities.

I like that idea.

Books on occultism, mythology, etc likely all have good metal band name fodder as well.

Oh I could have fun with that. Titles such as:

Fecal Forgery (for my shitcore band)

Genital Grinder (for my pornogrind band)

9 (for my math rock band)

Everyone I love is Dead (for my doom band)

Joined at the ass (for my goregrind band)

World of Shit (for my old school death metal band)

Papyrus Containing the Spell to Preserve it's Possessor Against Attacks From He Who is in the Water (for my tech death band)

I enjoy dumb shit like that way too much, hahaha.

I do need to get some books for lyrical topics and whatnot. Even e-books would be fine. Hell even Wikipedia has it's place there.

Looks like someone beat you to it. :-P Though I guess it depends on how much it bothers you if another band, no matter how small, has already taken it.

Genital Grinder is a goregrind band already.
9 which they go by Nine is a metalcore/almost djent but it was long long long before djent was invented. They just tune fucking stupid low and play hardcore/rock. not the stop start riffing.
Everyone I love is Dead well it's not a band but it's a type O negative song. I knew I had heard of it before...
World of Shit .. yea already stated.... grindcore band
if you were to shorten the last one.. Papyrus .... well that's a grindcore band already as well.

thought I heard of Joined At the Ass as well. it's a Cattle Decapitation song.
and I guess i now know you were picking out song titles since Fecal Forgery is an Aborted song.

Yeah I was trying to think of song titles that would make really awkward or just plain horrible band names.

Currently working on a doom/death song. Or doom, or just slow metal, fuck I dunno. It's slow and heavy, almost groovy. No clue what I'm going to do for lyrics and vocals, but my goal is to finish it before I hit the sack tonight. So I have about 3-4 hours to finish it. I'm gonna post it here when I'm done.

SLK, I think you're going to like the guitar tone on it, from that amp we were talking about earlier, the 2 watt one. It has such a natural, unprocessed sound (due to no EQ probably) and although the distortion is tubey and warm, it just has this... I dunno, raunchiness to it. It's really growing on me.

Alright, here's the song, roughly recorded. I don't think I want to polish it up though. I think it sounds better imperfect, so to speak. It was supposed to be death/doom, no clue what it ended up as. Something deathy and doomy I guess.

Anyways, for anyone listening, the guitars were recorded with an amp that I built called the firefly. The plans are free online. It's a 2 watt tube amp with only two knobs, a volume for each gain stage. Both were cranked and I had a tubescreamer in front of it as a tone shaper (gain 0 tone 5 level 5), and ran it through my isolation cab with a 12 inch CTS alnico speaker from 1960. Post processing was just the standard high pass at 100hz and low pass at 15K or so, nothing else. Guitar was a 1984 Ibanez DT250 (my first guitar, actually) tuned down to Bb. Bass was recorded using a cheap Rogue 5 string and direct input and amplitube, drums are drumcore 3 free. Enough talk, here 'tis:

dropbox has been acting screwy for me all day. Damnit. Lemme see if I can mess with it or anything.

Hmm, that's really weird. It should be working. It works on both of my computers. I was having problems with dropbox earlier today on my laptop today though, so who knows.

yea that sounds pretty sweet there. it reminds me sorta along the lines of a band inspired by Candlemass's later works. I dig.

did a sound test with some gear I haven't recorded with:
http://youtu.be/OjPhciBsrNU

also a mini-tour of my now rearranged shed:

That camera mic sounds like it's dying lol. I like the sound of that setup though. I imagine properly miced it would sound brutal.

I also envy your amount of gear. Can't wait until I buy a house, then the basement is going to basically be a combination wine cellar, gym, and music studio.

I think it sounds fucking beast even with that camera mic. I really would like to move it all to my house and have a properly sound proofed shed in the backyard and then I'll get some more gear.

And yea I'm really surprised how great it sounded. I've always liked that bassman but never really used it much. and the Randall RG300 I was pissed when I got it in cause it has an overdrive channel but I thought it didn't work but it was actually a pull out switch like my ampegs... the thing is some fuckhead had glued it down so that's why I never figured that out when I got it in originally. So I sat there pissed off with it for well over a year. even without that big muff on it... it sounds pretty much that same tone, just not as loud and the muff did add some further grit to it. I want to do some shit like Bunkur now with it and I'm going to do tmwr a soundtest video of my Sunn Concert Leads. one on one of the Sunn 412L cabs and the other on that 215 Kustom.

and those quick photos aren't even of everything else that's in there! it's lacking the Accoustic 330 that's at a friend's thats giving a good run through, the Sunn Coliseum 300 Bass head, and Ampeg SS140c

If you're still looking for band names, something that may also work well would be to look for an interesting lyrical phrase in a song as opposed to just using the title. My first band in high school, Enter Oblivion, was named after one of the opening phrases in Danzig's Her Black Wings. It turned out to be a waste of a good name but Spirit Division is named after one of my early band's songs so I really can't say too much about that either. :P

I've been working on a project with my current band, Kagura. We have a five track EP in the works that's nearly done.

I'm really horrible with thinking of band names. The rare times I think of a good one it's always taken, so I end up with something shitty like only a shadow remains. I'm going to try to think of an uber kvlt black metal name, like Dark Satanic Darkness, or Black Realm of Satanic Satan, or Satan's Feces, or something of the like.

So a bassman 4X12 cab? I've never used Fender gear, with the exception of my first amp which was a shitty little 15 watt Fender combo, and I guess maybe putting a telecaster bridge/pickup on a flying v I built a while ago. All I've heard about them is that old Fender twins are ridiculously loud and that they don't make much that's good for metal. However, the drummer from my first band did steal a Fender Ultimate Chorus 2X12 combo from a church and we played through that for a while, until a friend of his blew the speaker, and that thing had a pretty gnarly distortion channel.

Those sound like Abigail song titles.

Hey, "Satanik Metal Fucking Hell" isn't taken as a band name!

I think I can stomach the name Infernal Light. It's kinda stupid, but I don't want to spend a year thinking of a name.

I think that's a band as well. I really don't use Fender gear but that one had the original speakers in it and i picked it up used for 150. i know old fucking fender gear goes for stupid high dollars and is good quality stuff. I'd love to have a 2nd one but that will most likely never happen. when i bought it, it was still louder than fuck with an ampeg head on it. but using that Randall just fucking about made me cream my pants.

Google didn't return any bands with that name, and there aren't any in the archives here, so it's probably about as free as any potential black metal name can be. I guess I'll go for it.

Where do you get this awesome used gear for cheap? I can't seem to find many good deals around here. Maybe when I go back to California I'll have better luck.

This one happened to be at a used music store around here called music-go-round. They never had any idea what they had, other shit I got at pawn shops, off ebay, off friends who just don't need/want it anymore. It's just good to know people who have good gear and know people who keep an eye out for good gear that pops up.

The local craigslist may have a few gems on it, I'm going to have to keep my eyes open. The only music stores around here that I know of is a guitar center, and while this one is nice and they have great prices, I doubt I'll find the awesome old shit I want. I've been meaning to look up local pawn shops, I may have to do that this weekend.

They have some stuff. I saw a Kustom 215 and matching head. it was beat and they wouldn't separate the two so I didn't bother with that.
I know they have a Sunn Concert Lead on it right now. and I think a Sunn beta bass.

Got drums written for two new Blacksoul Seraphim songs written tonight. Four new songs in total, with another one in the writing process. Hopefully that'll be done as well by the time Josh and I head into the studio in September to track drums.

As for Blasphegram, it's steadily progressing. Cole and I have been having Skype calls for it, and the goal right now is to get at least one or two songs fully written by the time Lago's CD release show is happening early next year, as he invited me out to Arizona for it and we discussed the idea of me jumping in on vocals with the rest of Lago to do said one or two songs as Blasphegram if I do go.

recorded some stuff for morbid ftnote III, death grind war whatever metal stuff -not properly mixed yet, which would be useless anyway since the vocals haven't been recorded yet.

would love to hear what you guys think.

a bit faster and more intense than the melodic "epic" stuff I tried to do with II (for which the guys in the states are recording vocals, heard some stuff, love their vocals - check out his other band Asthma Castle

So, SS140C came today. It sounds great, but there's not nearly so much gain as I'd thought these had. I need to turn the gain up to 8 to start to get a "metal" sounding distortion, below that it just sounds kind of crunchy. This is on the "A" channel, B has even less. Does this mean there's something wrong with it?

Strange, my VH140C has plenty of gain at just 2 or 3. Pretty much has more gain that you'd ever need. I assume the SS140C should be similar...

They are pretty much the same, the VH has more of a sharper 'bite' or 'bark' to it. At least that's what it sounds like to me when I've played mine side by side to compare.

I don't have the VH140 I have the 150 version of that but I doubt that makes much of a difference just like the SS series. I still love them more than anything. Fear, can you do a video or recording of it to kinda see what you are talking about, also what are you running it through? i'm assuming you have the head and not the combo.

morbid ftnote.. i'll take a listen to this soon.
