Dismember - Override of the Torture

Melodic and quite accesible for the genre but also thrashy to a certain degree. The vocals actually remind me of Max Cavalera circa Beneath the Remains with a bit more of a death metal-y mixed.

Gorguts - An Ocean of Wisdom

Man, I feel like this COULD potentially be Gorguts' definitive work. Guess we'll just have to wait for the rest of the record.

Angel Dust - The Temple of the King (Rainbow cover), off Holy Dio

You'd think that a cover of this song which includes pinch harmonics and German aghcents must be an atrocity. It's anything but that, really.

Revolting - Hymns of Ghastly Horror

Rogga might not be the most innovative musician out there but he does know how to make some really enjoyable Death Metal.

Helheim - Jormundgand (album)

I may have reviewed it earlier, but I'm listening to it again; this band needs more love. Fantastically majestic black/viking metal.

Immortal - In My Kingdom Cold

Been a long time since I listened to Immortal, probably at least half a year. This always was my favorite song on "Sons of Northern Darkness"

Gotham City - Swords and Chains

AMAZING Swedish Heavy Metal that many people just don't know about! I'm really blown away by how simple, yet effective the music is, especially the drumming. It really makes the song that much better.

Great album, but I think the Doctrines Of Dark Devotion is leagues ahead of this - both in composition and sound/production. Really look forward to the next full length from these guys.

Supplicium - Saltatio Mortis (Morbid Catharsis)

After a chilling two minute intro comes some icy, icy melodic French black metal. Damn good stuff.

Barshasketh - Sitra Achra

Nice riffy Black Metal.
Not a fan of the vocals though, but it doesn't take anything away from the high quality of the music.

Arrayan Path - Cursed Canaan

Killer power metal, the best song of the year this side of Avantasia's "Saviour in the Clockwork" for the genre. Speedy riffs, tremendous choirs.

Nice songs, yes!

I just saw Secret Chiefs 3 live at our local Jazz Festival:

Does anybody know more about the band? Thanks.

Thanks for mentioning that new Sonne Adam EP, Crushed. I'd immediately forgotten to check it out after noting that the cover art was incredibly good. Will do so today.

NP: Sacriphyx - "The Crawling Horror"

Completely random YouTube encounter, but I'm liking this. Another interesting band from Australia, this time offering a hybrid style combining death and thrash with some Weakling-type blackened atmosphere. Cool stuff...just going on this song alone I'd be apt to check out the whole album. Nice artwork, as well.

Locrian - Return to Annihilation

This LP is everything I expected it to be and more! They are all over the place with this one, in a good way. The parts with drums and vocals are huge and monolithic. And the reverb-drenched mix gives the music an ominous feeling. Like the Apocalypse is lurking over the horizon, and Locrian is the soundtrack to its imminent arrival. The soft acoustic/drone parts are equally as creepy and they carry a sorrowful weight too. The album art for this release really fits the mood of the music perfectly.

Barbarity: The Wish to Bleed

Nice modern yet sorta old school sounding brutal russian death. Only thing that's sorta aggrivating is hearing the pick scrapping in their picking which is probably from using thinner floppy picks.

For some reason both of these releases by Warbringer are finally clicking. I will have to get Worlds Torn Asunder.
