Acacia - Förnimmelsens lund af längtan

This took me by suprise. It starts of as funeral doom with nice female vocals further in, but after a couple of minutes it just explodes into extreme black/progressive metal territory not unlike modern Enslaved. Me likey very much.

Huh, interesting. I'll check that out.

NP: Mesrine - Going to the Morgue, gonna see this band tomorrow, classic Québec grindcore.

I don't know if the progressive tag is entirely suitable, but it definitely reminds me of Enslaved in certain places. The ma tag is Doom/Black Metal, Depressive Rock so go figure. :-P

Ne Obliviscaris - Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise

Almost finished listening to this album for the first time. Pretty cool, althought it doesn't seem to have a lot of hooks and the track lenghts are just a little to long for the amount of ideas they have put into the music. Still, it's only my first listen. I'm sure it will get better and more recognizable in the future.

I love this song. Anneke sounds so damn sexy.

Inquisition - Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm

This is sounding really cool, I love the atmosphere that the riffs create. Not entirely sold on the vocals though, but still really good overall.

Pain Of Salvation - The Second Death Of

Fucking amazing live album. Love how the band manages to take their songs in a new direction. Picking this bastard up next week, for sure.

Great choice! Hail Murder is actually one of the songs that got me into Black Metal.

Metallica - The $9.98 EP

...I always liked this "album" best. I felt bad about that. Now I don't. They really loved these songs and did they great credit.

Ulcerate: the Destroyers of All.

I love this album but I wish it was a tad more memorable, I remember tones and moods but not riffs and songs directly. The drummer really is the highlight throughout the entire work.

Yeah the drummer is something else on that record for sure.

Gorguts - An Ocean of Wisdom

I am SO HYPED for this album, you have no idea. I've listened to this and Forgotten Arrows back-to-back way too often for my own sanity since this second song was released.

My Dying Bride - She is the Dark

This is honestly only the second My Dying Bride song I've ever listened to, the first one being The Crown of Sympathy. They're just a band I've never gotten the motivation to dig deeper into.

Ulcerate: Everything is Fire.

Still this is better than destroyers, I guess the more immediate and def. more structured songs.

Seen them live? The drummer is insane. He was super humble when I told him he was great, too. I don't think he enjoyed that, haha.

Aborted - Goremageddon

Is this their heaviest album? I think so. Brutality from start to finish.

Les Discrets - Ariettes Oubliees I: Je Devine a Travers Un Murmure... This is way superior to Alcest in terms of atmosphere, coming from a similar style.

Children of Bodom - Are you dead yet

So hate me, I'm listening to COB's whole discography to prepare for Mayhem Fest, and enjoying it immensely. This album is less vicious than their early stuff, but still plenty heavy and riffy. Wondering how they'll sound outdoors - last time I saw them (indoors) they sounded/felt like a massive alien war machine pummeling the earth. (Yeah, someone is a little over-imaginative.)

I'd love to see them live, I often watch the videos of him in studio tracking the album. I like how it's complex and busy but tasteful in that regard.

currently:

Fleshgod Apocaypse: Mafia

their last effort as an actual death metal band.

:)

That ep is my wife's favorite release. She doesn't care for anything they did after it. Including Effigy for some reason, even when I discuss it with her she says 'Human Waste or GTFO' then I want to punch her.

Followed up the pinball machines with some bands that make a better use of those sweeps

Gorod: A Perfect Absolution
Desecravity: Implicity

Both excellent tech death. obviously Gorod so much better.

Morbid Angel - Immortal Rites

So good. The volcanic guitars and savage, ripping vocals...a true classic.

Age of Taurus - Desperate Souls of Tortured Times

Rock solid doom metal built around riffs more gut-punching than merely borrowing from the Black Sabbath template. Nothing against Orchid or the latest Uncle Acid and so forth, as I enjoy those bands immensely for what they set out to do but this is a more than refreshing reprieve. Waves crashing against a jagged shore to snap you awake from the prolonged haze just a little too late.

Morgoth - Female Infanticide

Man, early Morgoth is awesome. Heavy, riff-orientated death metal, which in my eyes were fucking solid up to Odium, then they promptly turned to shit.

Neurosis - Pain of Mind

Certainly not my favorite Neurosis album, but it sure does kick ass. They were awesome as a hardcore band, and they're awesome as a crushing whatever-you-call-what-they-do-now band.

Heavy rhythm, glorious pagan melodies, powerful 'choir' vocals. Of course, Rob's trademark nasty rasp. Just an overall awesome Graveland track.
