I am just listening to The New Immolation, The New Autopsy now and damn these bands still deliver albums better than 99% of the Metal delivered nowadays...

Who else comes to your mind!

Marduk! Immortal!...

What is your definition of "old"? Not the same as mine apparently.
And I literally hate that "99%" statement!

I'd say Picture delivered a Kick Ass Metal Album last year.

[x] List thread so far.

But I definitely agree with most of the picks here. Manilla Road have never released a bad album, including The Circus Maximus. Playground of the Damned was pretty poor by their standards, but still a 7/10 album, and Mysterium is one of the best albums of 2013. Everything about it is perfect, or at least 'very good'. The riffs are delightful as always and they don't forget the need for good song-writing even when attempting to go for an epic feeling.

Immolation are certainly no longer in their prime (read: everything up to Close to a World Below), but their modern stuff is still good by death metal standards and certainly provides a refreshing break from all the Incantation worship (seriously, why does nobody ape Immo!?).

Satan's new one is almost as good as Court in the Act and a fair chunk better than Suspended Sentence, and is probably the best trad metal album released in quite a while.

Autopsy's discography is nearly flawless. Only Shitfun is less than a 9/10 album and it's still very good.

The only picks in this thread I'd disagree with are Immortal (never liked 'em), Picture (the album last year was dull as fuck), Testament (everything since The New Order has been shit) and Cannibal Corpse (their new stuff is passable but not good by any stretch of the imagination, and they'll never match Tomb of the Mutilated IMHO).

Napalm Death's current output is extremely good, but they also had that mediocre stuff from the 90s... not sure if they'd count here.

U.D.O. always cranks out dependable material. In fact, all his albums get better with time and are generally more interesting than other trad acts.

Suffo's last 2 albums has been kinda lacking. There are moments of greatness but at least Blood Oath and Pinnacle feels a bit tired, even vocally speaking.

Carcass? their final album was a total rock & rollish mess with terrible songwriting and tired performance. Surgical might be better, but it hasn't been released yet, so until now Carcass was just another band who released seminal albums at the beginning and went to the toilet at the end.

I can't find a weak or terrible Incantation album yet. Maybe they didn't reach the massive excellence from Onward to Golgotha and Mortal Throne of Nazarene with the subsequent albums, but they've kept a sort of standard in terms of quality. The newest one is excellent btw so they totally fit the criteria here.

Just like Incantation, Immolation has been pretty consistent. I even liked Providence and the new one is more or less in the same direction. I would say they're still going fairly strong.

Maiden, Satan and Manilla Road still bring the classic metal goods even after all this time. Maiden will never do anything like their classic stuff again and I am glad they aren't trying too hard to do so; it is this that really makes their bold new direction stand out, with how good it is. They know their limits and they don't just pander to old burnt out rockers in bars - good move. Satan's new album is better than Court in the Act. Manilla Road have always put out solid stuff, their last two haven't been up to par exactly, but the Hellwell album was - and even MR on 'solid' are still really fucking good.

Accept I don't think are rivaling their classic stuff, but they sound like a fresh young band, which is something that the other bands I've listed have not done. They haven't released anything amazing yet with the new lineup, but maybe they could, and I think that's very promising. The potential is there. Satan's Host is also notable as such...very energized album in By the Hands of the Devil.

Pagan Altar and Candlemass come to mind.

Grave, they have never released a bad album. Some alright stuff but never bad.

Bolt Thrower, admittedly it's been 8 years but they never released a bad album and the could release an album called "A Metalcore Tribute to Maddonna" and some how it would still kick my ass :-D

The aforementioned Autopsy (but Shitfun was shit and not very fun), Cannibal Corpse and Carcass(I love Swansong so there :P) alsoo.

Amorphis have never exactly been in the ass-kicking business, but I'll submit them anyway.

Totally agreed for Reifert and Co. But not for Darkthrone.
