Bought a new amp, a Nux Frontline 15-watt. Just for practice. The Vox Metal Amplug is great but sometimes when the mood strikes I desire more flexibility in my tone. I don't play my band songs(OSDM) exclusively anyway, still love to rock out to Megadeth, Iced Earth and Carcass every now and then.

I recently started playing drums for a veteran Lansing, MI drone/doom/noise band called Hordes. I've been gigging and writing with them, and we are going to record in a couple weeks. We also decided to start a noise punk band in the style of the 80's Japanese scene. We are gonna call it Abrupt.
Besides that, I've been recording some indie/prog rock stuff for a guy and I'm gonna be on a 7" by a band called Skelton-Luns.
The band I was with for almost 7 years broke up last month, so now I'm trying to form a band with the bass player of that band. We just need a guitarist. We're looking to play some kind of noise rock/hardcore stuff (ala Drive Like Jehu, The VSS, Fugazi, Failure, Jesus Lizard, etc).

Overall, I am very excited for what is going to come as far as being a musician goes.

I dream of one day having a metal band that mixes Swans, Godflesh, Monotheist-era Celtic Frost, and Anaal Nathrakh... but I haven't found any musicians capable of something like that yet. Oh well, I still have many years ahead of me.

I checked out some tracks from that Bandcamp link and holy shit, that's some good stuff. I'll be ordering a CD next week. Which instrument do you play?

On that one specifically I'm the vocalist/guitarist. my friend did drums, and really it's his first time playing in a band seriously and never in that style. It came out pretty sweet for writing, recording, and mixing it all in a week.

Glad that you dig it!

And that would be a lofty but excellent goal. my friend in TN does something like Swans/Godflesh: http://tapesofaneongod.com/tagged/6 it's at the bottom of the page labled side B of that split.

That's great. It really feels great when a record comes together like that. The drummer doesn't sound like it's his first foray into serious musicianship, which is awesome.

That pornography track crushes, man! Do they have more material aside from that split? I want more than one track of that stuff haha.

Fuck Goat Martyr, I'm putting it on hold until I can find reliable musicians who have schedules that are compatible with regular band practices and [i]don't]/i] make me want to burn a hole in planet earth...
I need to know what spells SLK is using so I can counteract them. As for now, I'm probably going to find another project to do

Yea I'm very happy it came together, cause the first time I tried jamming with him on drums things just didn't work out well at all, I kinda had a feeling he would be able to do this style a bit easier and I knew he loves the music to begin with.

I believe Pornography has 2 more songs, one is on a split with Holyness Church of the Valley, something like that, and the other is going to be on another split tape I believe. He's extremely slow about composing and writing. it's like almost a year inbetween each track it seems. They all should be linked up on that Tapesofaneongod.com website. I think he has a soundcloud but I'll have to find that usually he emails me tracks as he gets near to completion for feedback on them. I told him I'd release a discography cd of his stuff whenever he is ready. it looks like it'll take another decade.

Malignant, just send me your goatmartyr material and I'll have it all done in a couple of weeks. my magic I use... well it's for the lulz and I think that's why it works so well :-p

now trying to get my scheduel arranged for all the drumming I have to do in the next 2 weeks.

An area of Virginia where there isn't a metalhead to be seen for miles and miles. My band members (use that term loosely here) don't live that close to me at all

EDIT: Dude, SLK, I've got nothing recorded or anything to really send you because, as I've mentioned a few times before I think, I've got nothing of my own to really record with and even if I did none of my piece of shit computers are capable of recording anything and are pretty much incompatible. Trust me, I wish I could've sent it to you a while ago because I know you get your shit done and don't fuck about at all.

Even though there are some people around here to jam with and I used to be way more active in actual show playing bands. I've felt more productive doing shit myself than I ever had in playing in a band. Not that I wish i never did, if I hadn't I wouldn't have the experience and knowledge I do now.

well, honestly as for now realistically I'm fucked, so I'll just put more focus on my side project. Hopefully that shit is 10x more productive.

The show I had with both of my bands was pretty decent though something of a mixed bag. The turnout was as small as I expected and Spirit Division's set was short and rather sloppy, but Ebonmere's set went over really well. It's looking like both bands will be ready to play live consistent and Spirit Division has another show coming up on the 13th.

On a related note, I managed to complete two songs that I started putting together last week. Seem to be writing a lot of blues these days...

Show with Ubusute and Budd Dwyer went okay without our vocalist however it is something I won't want to do again. MY vocals were okay but I was too busy playing to do them a lot and we were pretty sloppy on the newest song we wrote. Still a fun show. The one in Jamestown will be interesting since we are playing with a bunch of doom bands.

When we are done with our shows I want to write a bunch of stuff. Like I said earlier, more death metal influenced. Someone told us we sound like Morbid Angel without the solos so we are moving in the right direction!

cool deal. Oh yea I played a show sat. it went pretty well it was my old sludge band, we hadn't played in about 3 years. I used to be the bassist/vocalist but after everything I'm drumming and doing vocals. We did damn good for only running through the set twice in 2 weeks before the show. Had a good response but I left pretty much immediately after playing since I had 2+ hours to drive back home and unload and then another 30mins to get home.

MalignantTyrant... I curse your solo project as well!

I just realized that every album I have released has been in a different tuning. My next few will all be in C standard so at least I'll finally break that habit, but the 4 I've released were in C#, B, C, and Bb, in that order. Kinda funny.

Porman, sounds good and that's a good frontman you got there.

I use about 3 main tunings for stuff, D, A, G standard. might do some different stuff in the future ... oh wait and A#

Just compiling all the stuff I'm going to be recording this weekend, thus far it's 8 songs for various projects with other duders.

Well there is nothing dangerous about that video. Pretty normal singer. Not really doing much. Never really seen a metal singer that is all that great as a frontman. I mean maybe in metal aspects but IDK I look up to GG Allin as like the ultimate frontman and it's like, metal has nothing like that in my opinion.

ShaolinLambKiller: Thanks man! That was an intense show. All I could do was play and sweat, because the place was packed and the heat was extreme. I can't understand how Ollie (vocals) could wear a damn jacket in there and move like he did without sweating.

xThe__Wizard: I was referring to his height. The guy is 6'7" tall and usually moves a lot on stage. And since I'm pretty short, I'm at risk of flying into a wall if he bumps into me. At the previous gig he knocked the bass out of tune and that was a bigger stage as well.

Now, bringing up GG Allin... Kid, don't even go there. I'm fully aware of who he was and you can't even compare anyone to him. The guy was mentally insane, which added to what he did.

But what you're basically saying is that, that a good front man should piss, shit, fight, spit, perform naked, cut himself, vandalize, self abuse himself etc.

I honestly thought GG Allin was a terrible frontman. Some crybaby faggot doing a bunch of other stupid shit on stage because his music fucking sucked, his vocals sucked. No one ever talks about how great his music/voice was... only about all the stupid shit he did on stage and frankly that's gimmick as fuck. It's just as bad as female pop vocalists that strip down to pretty much what trashy strippers wear.

I go to a show for a live experience of hearing music. not seeing a giant baby.

And usually when I meet someone who sings his praises I automatically know this person is lesser in intelligence and I'd never have anything incommon or any proper discussion cause they are already logically flawed.

I rate a frontman by his singing skills. I honestly could care less what he does on stage.

I do like it if the singer does put forth a bit of energy into their performance. Like with Acid Bath, yea Dax is a great vocalist. but live... you might as well be staring at a pole. He just stands there looking down with a hand in his pocket most of the time, like it's first time doing standup comedy or some shit.

From what I remember, Arch Enemy's first singer was fired because of his stage presence. He just kinda stood there and made metal hand gestures slowly. Either way I still think he was a better vocalist than Angela, especially on the last album he did with them, whatever it was called. Burning bridges I believe.

Hey I was thinking, let's collaborate on a deathgrind/goregrind kinda song. I had a shit ton of fun on the grindcore challenge and wrote like 24 songs in a month and a half and I'd like to do it again.

About to have a practice with my main band. A guy that I've known for a few years wanted to play bass for us and also said he could do vocals so we had him over the other week. His vocals are interesting, although he can't growl and can't really do a death metal scream. I know he could learn though because when he tried to growl, although it sounded nothing of a growl, it sounded like he had potential because he was close to it and never really tried before. Eerie as fuck inhales that also have his speaking voice mixed with it, and he did a weird scream that almost sounded like a black metal rasp. I told him to learn Hammer Smashed Face a few months ago and he still hasn't learned all of it, he didn't have his bass I guess so he learned it on guitar and is transferring it over. He can play it okay but he needs to practice more. He's by far the best bassist we've had to try out for us. Although we've only had two other people and they couldn't even play their instrument. The only thing I'm skeptical about is if he were to play bass he doesn't really listen to technical music so he doesn't really know how to craft the kind of basslines we're looking for and I don't really think he's skilled enough to do so anyway. I'm gonna pound it into his head that he needs to get a solid growl down and to develop his other voices a bit further, he's a really cool guy but he does a bunch of drugs (not the kind I like) and he's really excited to be a part of the band and I'm hoping that we can kind of get him away from all the bad shit, that and he looks just plain evil and would fit up front on stage perfectly making inhuman noises.

Also someone from a tv station or a magazine or something wants to interview us on the local scene. Sounds pretty cool, never really got any recognition from anyone before.

Totally down to do it!!! I'd rip that shit all the fuck up.

And I agree with you I thought he was far better. And their music was better at that time as well.

I'll shoot you an email.

Their music was much better, darker, and heavier with Liiva. And I've never heard of a band tuning UP for a new album. Metal bands usually tune down as they progress.

Going from this handy dandy chart, we can think of great new band names, like "Blistered Retard Attack" and my personal favorite: "Anal Ass Shitting." Hahahahaha.
