Shok Paris - Go Down Fighting

Pretty kickass. Manly riffing and gruff vocals.

Borknagar - Epochalypse. Excellent album and especially very well produced. Their best since Empiricism.

Judas Priest - Night Crawler

I always forget how good this album is until I break it out after not hearing it for a long time.

GG Allin - Outskirts of life
20 year anniversary of his death already, probably gonna take a reprieve from death and black metal discoveries today to remember the fallen messiah..

The guys from Antiseen and a bunch of other punk/oi type bands are having a 20th Anniversary Concert where they play only GG music in North Carolina tonight I think. I'd go if I had the money, I've met the guitarist from Antiseen several times, nice guy.

Black Flag - Loose Nut

This LP appears in many "worst Black Flag albums" lists, and on one hand I can see what people don't like about it. The production is "poppy" and the songs are slow and rockin'... it's the closest that Black Flag got to playing metal. Hell, Annihilate This Week has a pretty crunchy and stonery groove. But this is my favorite album of theirs. It has great lyrics and each song is entirely memorable. I dunno. I just love it.

Ophthalamia - Deathcrush (Also currently searching for their CD's)
This is a vast improvement over the original... I like how they also fit the lyrics better into the song, since a lot of words are skipped in the original because they didn't fit.

Witch Cross - Axe to Grind

It's no 'Fit for Fight' (different singer), but not too bad for some dreamy, glorious trad metal, and a few songs really bring back the band's old spirit.

Radagast - "An Earthly Sacrament"

Very good melodic/atmospheric black metal. Just found out about these guys, not really info outside their bandcamp, but the music is great: http://radagast.bandcamp.com/

Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes

Good old Finnish death metal, a great way to start the weekend.
Its a shame they couldn't release anything else remotely close to this beast

Sentenced - Suffocated Beginning of Life

Creepy guitar leads, a great combination of groove/doom-y DM riffs and a huge production sound. OSDM fans need to hear this.

NP: Scandinavian Metal Attack

Queued: Scandinavian Metal Attack II

The Bathory tracks on both of these splits are way better than the ones on the two Bathory albums. Imagine how much better they would have been if they had had this kind of production! (And I am usually a fan of bad production... I still love both Bathory and The Return though.)

The other bands are pretty damn good too. So far I really like Trash and Zero Nine's tracks the most.

They're far too obscure, too. I think more people need to be aware that they exist, because 1984 (Eternal) absolutely destroys. My friend played the album for me in Phoenix years ago, then years later I happened on the CD here in Michigan by chance. It was a happy moment, I tell ya.

Tribulation - Formulas of Death

I haven't listened to this in a while, probably because the length can be a bit much to take in a single sitting. Very good album though

 I was listening to that album a month or so ago and fell in love with it. Have you listened to Aarni's other album, Tohcoth? I've been thinking I should check it out, but I've heard it doesn't compare to Bathos so I've been putting off listening to it.

On topic:

Deströyer 666 - I Am the Wargod (Ode to the Battle Slain): Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng. My favourite song off an absolute beast of an album.

Personally, I think it is almost as great. But it is different. It's funnier, certainly. It has more krautrock and ambient influences-- but there are still those 'epic' Aarni moments, the ones that make your skin break out in goosebumps and your armhairs lift. You should check it out-- just don't be expecting Bathos 2.

On-topic: Captain Beefheart - Bluejeans & Moonbeams

Perfect album. I don't know how people can disown this.

Hibria - Deadly Vengeance

Sampling a few songs from the new album and honestly, this is pretty dull.

Edge Of Sanity - Sacrificed

Such a weird song to come across while listening to The Spectral Sorrows. I love it though, it's really catchy and makes me want to stand up and just nod my head to the music while gazing into the sunset. Deeper down down deeper down down deeper down....

Hmm, funnier, huh? I'll check it out next time I'm in the mood for Aarni-style weirdness, I'm all curious now.

I tend to listen to albums only, not really songs individually. This one I throw on anytime I'm on an adventure.

Next up: early Carcass!

A Requiem For the Light by Grimoire

Writing this one up for the review challenge. Might not finish tonight. Maybe tomorrow. Still a fairly solid obscure black metal album.
