Dream Theater - The Count of Tuscany

One of the finest progressive metal songs.

Iron Dogs - Razors Of Doom

Fenriz just shared this on BOTW, and this might be the finest piece of canadian music I've ever heard.

Saxon - Ride Like the Wind

I don't have their Destiny album, so I can't comment on that, but this is pretty rocking. I've heard the original song and this is certainly better.

Kalmah- Seventh Swamphony. 2nd listen and none of the tracks have jumped out at me which is unusual for Kalmah. Usually an instantaneous kick from these guys.

Barren Earth - The Ritual Of Dawn

I LOVE this album. Such powerful and emotive music, and the way the instruments work in unison and are always doing something interesting and memorable is almost unparalleled in the modern metal scene. I'm almost afraid to say this, but I think this album beats the first three Amorphis albums. Not by a lot, but by a sliver. Their second album is almost of the same quality as well.

Decapitation - Winds of Creation

and about to start on Nihility.

I'm seeing them tomorrow supporting Lamb of God, and never having listened to their earlier stuff, thought I ought to check it out. Really solid.

Have fun. I saw this show about a week or so ago and Decapitation slayed. They played several songs off of Carnival and Organic also if you want to continue to prepare. Lamb Of God was deafening. :)

I didn't have a chance to listen to those two albums yesterday, but probably will today cause I'm still on a Decapitated kick :P

NP: Decapitated - Nihility (again)

They were great! A nonstop barrage of crazy technical stuff, and still groovy enough to headbang to. Lamb of God was also great, of course. This was the closest I've ever gotten to see them - maybe about five rows from the front, though waaaaay off to the side, away from the meatgrinder in the middle of the floor.

Well, that was boring.

Dissection - Thorns of Crimson Death

First time listening to this band, how the fuck I've missed these guys? This is amazing!

Dead Congregation - Graves of the Archangels

I got distracted from Decapitated XD I guess it's just a death metal kick now. I've been meaning to listen to this band since someone mentioned them here, and I like what I hear. Maybe a bit less technical than Decapitated, but still crushing. I particularly like the slow, ominous segments interspersed with the faster bits.

Megadeth - Burn!

I so want to hate this, but as awful as Dave Mustaine's attitude, lyrics and overall personality are, this is pretty middle of the road melodic metal.

edit: you know what, fuck this album. The production goes a long way towards hiding how ill-meaning and worthless most of the music is on this, aside from a few good tunes at the beginning and some great guitar playing.

Wayd "Ghostwalk"

Nice album (I like "Decadence" a bit more though). A new album would be nice... they seemed to have fallen off the face of the planet.

Graupel - Von Der Gunst Zur Schelte

Graupel are definitely acquired taste. I think I'm slowly getting the hang of their first album. My appreciation for the demo still dominates though.

Katatonia - Dead End Kings

Finally giving this one another shot. So far, it's significantly better than I remember. I might be eating my words on this one...

I was really happy with this album. After the slight misfire that was 'The Great Cold Distance', they got back on track with 'Night Is the New Day', and I think 'Dead End Kings' is even better than that one. Glad you're enjoying it now. :)

Joe Satriani - Lights of Heaven

This is one of the best instrumental rock songs I've ever heard. It's just beautiful, and it's got some really tasteful shredding.

Eric Clapton & B.B. King - Riding With The King

Man, gotta love the good old blues. Definitely a song to get your drink on too.

Sodom - Epitome of Torture

I have to admit that I was a little bit worried about this album prior to its release, with whispers saying it was more melodic than normal. However, after hearing it, I can't agree with that. While it's not as "thrashy" as it could be, it's a really enjoyable release with "My Final Bullet," "Stigmatized," and "Into the Skies of War" being a couple of big stand-outs. Sodom prevail again. I love everything they've done (even the disappointing Better Off Dead has some neat tracks on it), and this perpetuates my opinion. :D

Absolutely killer black thrash from Portugal with a classical intro.

Terra Tenebrosa- The Purging
Avant-Garde, nihilistic, sludgey, blackened, ambient-y, Neurosis like tribal drums. Yeah, it's malevolent as shit.

The debut is most certainly not easy listening, and that's coming from a long in the tooth bm admirer, it takes a few good, solid listens to appreciate it's harshness and power. The sophomore is an absolute stunner as well.

Genocide Shrines - Devanation Monumentemples

Truly devastating, cavernous and heavy bestial death metal. My only complaint with this ep is the unwarranted interludes - they can be irritating. Luckily they are only short, but they still interrupt the torrent of black bile that the actual songs are spewing forth.

Machetazo - Ruin

I was disappointed with this album when I first got it but it clicked a couple of weeks back. For me, its up there with their best work, Mundo Cripta.
It sounds different but its still awesome,
Still slays. I really love the Doom track 'Tanatorio'

I agree basically with your assessment, though I like the interludes' existence, it's just that they're too numerous.

Incantation - Invoked Infinity

These guys are playing around here (Cleveland area) in July, for pocket-change admission. Can't wait to check this out. I'll probably pick up a T-Shirt and an album or two to support these guys since admission is so cheap.

NP: Rotten Sound - Exit

Still not as big a fan of RS as I probably should be, but this is their best work so it reaches at least 'very good' status.

Queued:

Brocas Helm - Black Death

A fine slab of US heavy metal.

Inepsy - Madness and Overkill EP (first listen)

Looking forward to this one, Inepsy are exactly my sort of thing.

Horn of the Rhino - Speaking in Tongues

The vocalist of this band is amazing. Absolutely amazing. Killer riffs too. I've been listening to this album on repeat, and it just doesn't get old. Did I mention how amazing the vocalist is?

NP: Code - Nouveau Gloaming

In anticipation of the new one, I decided to listen to both existing Code albums. I think RG is slightly better than this, but it's still very enjoyable.

Queued:

Code - Resplendent Grotesque

Amazing album, one of the best of last decade.

Sodom - Expurse of Sodomy EP

Underrated Sodom material. The early stuff is definitely the best.

Faustcoven - Hellfire and Funeral Bells

Very riffy and yet very atmospheric black/doom.

You can't mention it enough times, amazing vocal performance on that album. I own it myself.

Vhöl - Plastic Shaman

Quirky black/crust metal with some peculiar (but interesting) female vocal lines.

Negura Bunget - Om

Some very confused person just gave a 22% for this album. Which is insanely ludicrous, seeing as it's the creative, artistic, and fully realized pinnacle of an entire subgenre. One of the greatest metal albums period. For my money, the song writing and pacing matches any full length in existence. Metal or not.

I gave it a virgin listen today after reading the review and got bored. Sounds like he was pretty spot-on about it, actually.

MaYaN - Bite the Bullet

It's the live version from Graspop last year. Henning Basse sounds like Russell Allen and Devin Townsend mixed together.

Hoooooooooly shit. This is absolutely amazing stuff. It's a Gorguts cover but don't be confused. There is astounding material here. The production is like the new Guttural Secrete only dirtier.

Are you in Australia, coz it's exactly that here, hence why I'm listening to...

Sol - Centuries Of Human Filth

Massive, monstrously constructed doom/death, with an authentic apocalyptic tone to it - a soundtrack to the demise of the human race.

This is quite good and could have been much better but the production muffles most of the more interesting riffs
