I don't get why you're so absolute about this. There is no doubt that national socialism can be extremely offensive to many people, I completely agree with that, but if a label with 60 bands happens to be affiliated with 1 band that has some kind of admiration for NS then you can't listen to the other completely unrelated 59 bands? That makes no sense. You can avoid labels that are clearly supporting NS like Stellar Winter Records and you'll be just fine.

I know I'm being absolutist about this and it seems wrong to you and most people here but to me, in this particular case, it isn't so if there are any labels with no NS bands I'd really like to know about them.

Of course there are. As it has been said earlier, sheer logic and simple math alone proves that most labels have no NS bands signed on their roster. What would be more useful for you would be a list with labels to avoid. It's much easier to pin down all the labels releasing NS black metal than all the ones that do not. To do that you can check out the pages of NS-themed bands and write down your personal blacklist including all the labels that release their material. That would do the trick, I reckon. Basically filter out what you don't want to stumble upon later.

Why didn't I think of that before... thank you very much! I already found a site with a list of some NS labels and hopefully I'll find more of them and others that release NSBM material as time goes on.

I'm glad to have helped. Enjoy whatever black metal you may find enjoyable, and keep an open mind!

Any other bands out there that make use of more traditional style song structures and riffs ala GBK? Preferably newer bands, but if there is an old one out there that may not painfully obvious, that would be welcome too.

have you run a search with 'NS' as a keyword for genre, or 'socialism' as a keyword for lyrics?

http://www.metal-archives.com/search/ad ... ame=#bands

open a tab for each band, open a tab for each album
e.g.
http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Ka ... 000/369292
see if any release lists a 'label' rather than 'self-released'.

Since we're already talking Baptism, anyone want to recommend some excellent like-minded black metal? I'm partial to the raw melodic side of bands like Baptism (Remains of Cursed Plague is a great example,) Shatraug's bands (Horna in particular,) Arvet etc. and am mostly familiar with the larger names.

Seconding Calvarium, and adding Prevalent Resistance, which CrushedRevelation probably forgot to mention, since he originally brought the band to my attention. Kadotus and Teloch are also related. Kadotus' debut is a good place to start, and Teloch's Morbid Prayer is their best release.

Thanks for the the reccs Crushed and Ilwhyan. There's a few I'm familiar with in there but I haven't had a chance to check out the rest yet. I'll work through these over the next day or two and check back in.

I had no idea that the search engine here could be so specific... thank you so much Erotetic! I'll be sure to check out those bands and which labels they're signed on.

Rediscovering the glory that is Haxan. I just remembered it being long and really fast. All the magic is in the breaks between the speed though. I love the over the top vocal antics and lyrics splattered with sanctified childs innards.

How's Henbane grabbing folks? I was holding out for NWN to get copies but I think I'm going to have to break down and pay up.

I actually haven't heard Haxan yet but I really like Henbane. So many great, grimy, scuzzy riffs!

I've been listening to Henbane a lot recently, and I really like it! There's something very old, very..."ancient" about the sound on this album that I don't remember Haxan or Spectres Over Transylvania having, though I haven't spun those in a minute. I'd say go ahead and pull the trigger, Jonpo.

Henbane is great. Most of the riffs are more interesting on average than Haxan. Where I too found Haxan to be the best during the slow parts, the new album overall has more consistent quality. The drums are more present, and if you like the vocals on Haxan, they're far more over the top I'd say on Henbane. Everything still has a very ritual, occult sound like before.

Man, I'm not sure I've heard anybody who DIDN'T like Henbane yet. Thanks guys, sounds like a must-have and maybe their best yet. Don't want to discourage others from giving their opinions though, pile em on!

Not really sure if this is the kind of stuff you're expecting to find, but I'd say you should check out Cisfinitum's album Landschaft. Very atmospheric ambient music with a very strong sense of melancholy.

Looking for something similar to Gorgoroth's "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt".
I for one is a fan of Pest vocals including his time with Obtained Enslavement

Hello, I recently got Marduk's Serpent Sermon and enjoyed the shit out of it, like holy cow it's been a while since I heard something as good as Coram Satanae or Hail Mary. I also enjoy some Dark Funeral and I've heard good thing about 1349 and I was hoping you could help me find more black metal of that style, you know pretty fast and pounding with a sense of melody (if you can call it so). No ambient/spacey stuff please and thank you in advance.

Surely you have heard Setherial? Some really aggressive, melodic black metal from Sweden.

From Germany is the awesome Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult. Really good, frosty bm. Their whole discography is worth checking out.

Fluisterwoud from the Netherlands are worth a listen.

Again from the Netherlands is Infinity.

Back to Sweden with the excellent Heresi. Great ep is Infusco Ignis.

There are more but this is all I can be bothered with now...

Svartsyn (start with Destruction of Man or ...His Majesty), Ragnarok (start with Diabolical Age) and possibly Endstille although that's less melodic. Armagedda also fits the bill, but don't listen to Ond Spiritism until you're familiar with the other stuff.

Svarttjern is pretty much the same, but more modern than the rest.

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but I think you might enjoy Valoton a lot. Fast, aggressive black metal with some death metal linings, and excellent black metal riffs with a melodic feel. Some of the catchiest black metal riffs since 1997, haha.

Dark Funeral is definitely similar, especially Lord Ahriman's riffing and especially the mid tempo songs.

Other bands might be:

Tsjuder
Behexen
Sargeist

Quantos is a slowed, watered-down version of Under the Sign, combined with the lifeless drumming and production of Dissection's final album. Infernus's riffing style is fairly unique in its intricacy, even where it's rendered into a pale shadow of its true form by Asklund's magical touch. Sargeist's latest album approximates the effect somewhat, although the riffing isn't quite the same, and rhythmically Let The Devil In is far more interesting and intense.

Is Arckanum's 2009 album anything like what you're looking for? It's cleanly produced and is driven by melodic black metal rhythm guitar. The riffing style clearly isn't the same, but as I said, Infernus' is somewhat unique, and again the drumming is more tasteful.

Traurer by Moloch. First track (Herbst) is ambient but the rest is about as black metal as you can get, good field recordings throughout.
Driving Buzzsaw guitars like Nattens Mandrigal, drumming is well programmed.
Pr. Sergiy Fjordsson's "singing" might put some off, but to me it adds to the charm.

Herbst is very cold sounding, eerie and atmospheric. Moloch is a (very underrated) one man band from Ukraine.

Hey, I'm trying to find a black metal band with two members, their album covers were always black and white with the two of them on it with all the typical aesthetics [corpse paint, medieval weapons, spikes and a slight tendency towards Immortal esque goofiness], was kinda thrashy, and they were from somewhere in Europe, possibly Russia. Any help for this randomness would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I also seem to remember the band name being two words. Not very helpful I know, but might narrow it down a little bit.

Check out the new album "Devil Worship" by Permafrost from Germany. Amazing. Besatt's last couple albums are aggressive as hell. A lot of people compared Kult Ov Azazel to Marduk, but they are even more aggressive I think. Infernal War, Eternal Majesty, Lugubre, Urgehal, Zorn, Cirith Gorgor and certain releases by Dodsferd might work. I agree with mentions of DNS, Tsjuder, and Svartsyn - check out the new one, "Black Testament" also. Edit: Also agree with Endstille, their entire discography is great. Лютомысл is one of my favorite bands of this aggressive, but "melodic" style that I have already suggested to death.

and now back to being quiet for awhile.

Yeah, Лютомысл a.k.a. Lutomysl is definitely a good recommendation, although the riffing style tends to be more Slavic sounding. It can be compared to Blood of Kingu, or an aggressive and straight-forward version of Drudkh. The only thing I don't quite like is the vocals. De Profundis and Decadence are the only albums I've heard so far, but I can recommend both of them.

I got two requests for y'all.

1) Black metal with an uncommon image, in everything from the actual music, band name, album art, lyrical themes, song titles, and the dress of the members. Basically any black metal band, that upon looking at everything on their MA profile (except the genre), no one would guess they played black metal. I suppose good examples would be Njiqahdda, A Pregnant Light, Liturgy, Porta Nigra, Fleurety etc...

2) Any black metal directly inspired by psychedelics/entheogens. Not just "psychedelic" black metal such as Nachtmystium or Oranssi Pazuzu, but something where the members promote the use of LSD, shrooms, DMT or whatever either by explicitly stating so, or by lyrics. I know of Ossein already. (EDIT: Bonus points if the album art and the music itself is really trippy, man*)

Thanks in advanced gals and guys!

*It's almost impossible to not follow up the word trippy with "man."

Maybe also give A Forest of Stars a whirl. I don't much like them but they definitely have a pretty unusual image/aesthetic. They might also be on drugs, too, but you'll have to look into that for yourself. Here's their very silly website:

Okay guys, I'm looking for something pretty specific... I'm not very aware of many melodic black metal, or many black metal albums that HEAVILY use church organs, even to the extreme of replacing it for a string section. Good examples of this are Kvist's debut, For Kunsten, and most of Tartaros' stuff. Anyone got anything similar? I'm not looking for church organ interludes, but that could be something similar as well.

Thanks!

Hello everyone, this time I'd like to ask recommendations about currently active female fronted black metal (if it's an all women band, even better) some I know so far are Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Atrum Inritus and Divahar.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
