A Hero For The World - Eternal Shadows

I like this. I would really fucking like this if not for the singer's voice. Don't get me wrong, he is good and all when he stays in the lower/mid notes zone (like in this song) and his screams are ok too, but when he... I don't know, sustain higher notes? (I wouldn't know how to say it) he sounds like a super-annoying Sammet.

Too nasal I guess. I could never get into the Martin Steene's side of PM vocalists.

Suffocation - Sullen Days

Killer song. Love the clean intro, it's a nice way to give the listener a break. The chorus to this song just kills. Best Suffocation album since Pierced. Might end up my overall favorite if it can keep itself in rotation.

Manilla Road - Valley of Unrest

This is really becoming one of my new favorite bands, haven't found a band this epic since I started listen to blind guardian, can't get enough of this stuff.

No Leviathan? o_O

Ataraxy - Unreachable Spheres

This is growing on me more and more. Some truly excellent Spanish death metal.

Nah, I always found Leviathan dull.

NP: Holy Grail - Ride the Void (first listen)

Never listened to Holy Grail before, thinking it probably wasn't to my taste. I was right. Uninspired riffs and a shiny production. What's to like?

Queued:

Necrocurse - Grip of the Dead (first listen)
Children of God - We Set Fire to the Sky

I remember enjoying this and absolutely nothing else about it.

Hmmm... Leviathan is positively bristling with vitriol, and full of inspired dark magic compared to some Judas Iscariot material. Each to their own I guess...

EDIT: Ensnared - Baneful Blood

Ripping demo from a promising Swedish death band. Here's to hoping there is more demos, ep or an album.

U.D.O. - Timebomb

Awesome speed metal riffage on most of the songs. "Burning Heat" is Painikiller-incarnate.

NP: Atomic Cries - Suspended Between the Mouth of God and the Fist of Man EP

Heavy doom metal with quality riffs. Songs are of a moderate length too, which is a plus in my book.

Queued:

Charles Lloyd and Jason Moran - Hagar's Song

This is highly rated for a collection of jazz originals and interpretations from this year. Haven't made my mind up yet.

Darkthrone - The Underground Resistance

I know this album has had mixed reviews, but I love it for the most part. Come Warfare, The Entire Doom seems like filler and LNCU is overlong, but the rest of the album is so stellar I can't fail to love it.

NP: Black Pestilence - In Defiance

Punky black/thrash with very occasional symphonic elements. A little unusual, but they're good at riffing and this is exciting music.

Queued:

Lightning Swords of Death - Baphometic Chaosium

I remember thinking this was dull, but I've only listened to it once before. I hope it's better this time.

Metal Anger - Son of Fear (first listen)

I've been combing the 2013 attention-worthy releases thread so I'm listening to

Entropia - Vesper
Only on the second track, but so far it's an excellent post-black metal release. Loving the ambiance it creates so far.

Queued up:
Progénie Terrestre Pura - U.M.A.
Lychgate - Lychgate
Wormed - Exodromos

Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Merry Chrystmeth

Just freaking destructive grind. Great vox, great guitar tone, and satire to boot. Delicious on flexi.

Still my favorite Symphony X album. Absolutely perfect, aside from the somewhat muddy guitar tone.
