Right guys, I've had a nice listen through your recs.

FleshMonolith, you hit the nail on the head with Dispepsiaa, I love the guitar sound -- that's what I meant by "audible". Deathpeed would also have been great with slightly better production; I liked their off-kilter approach (gotta love the Japanese!). The rest were too brutal for me, sorry.

dontlivefastjustdie -- of your recs, Grinchfinger were the best, again it was the guitar sound that appealed. However, I really don't like short songs, which I admit is something of a hinderance in a genre like Grind!

Thank you for all your recs, I appreciate it.

Awesome dude. Try and grab the Dispepsiaa split with Sakatat, (another band you might like, although a bit thinner and grinder...less death metally). Also, I believe Dispepsiaa share members with Rot. Check out Rot too.

That Gowl EP sounds great, I HIGHLY recommend getting a physical copy and spinning it because those mp3s on the bandcamp do not do it justice at all. BUT! I see you've recommended Rot so you get a pass. :p Also, the drummer for Nak'ay is a beast. The blasting on the stuff I have from them is out of control! I think they have some new stuff coming out soon, definitely have to keep up with that.

Let me expand a little on my request - I think the key element I'm after is clearly audible guitar. I mentioned Exulceration; listen to the guitar on these examples, and see how you can always hear what the guitar is doing, no matter how crazy shit gets in the background:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-wvzVqK8MA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtiBzoe21xs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0PJfY0I4oc

The root of my search is my love of the guitar sound on Cadaver's "Hallucinating Anxiety", but I refrained from mentioning that due to it being more on the DM side of the goregrind spectrum, but listen anyway:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp1SqmrM160
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQMPaO8lpiI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bljRiSpQUQ

What links those two bands is a crisp crunchy guitar sound that can be heard above everything else. Like I said, I appreciate Cadaver is more death than grind, but you get the idea. My previous requests in the DM help thread merely resulted in stuff like Xysma and Carbonized, which isn't really what I'm after.

Any further offerings to send my way?

how about A.S.R.A? way more death metally. the guitar's got a nice crunch but is audible.

Thanks again, FleshMonolith, some good stuff in there. ASRA were pretty great, as were Lock Up (I was vaguely aware of them already, with the ND connections). Haemorrhage I had checked out before, but that track was better than the ones I had heard before.

I know my request is very vague, and to be honest I'm not entirely sure exactly what I'm really looking for, but you're doing a good job. Cheers!

Can anyone recommend anything that's similar to Gridlink (i.e. thrashy, with high screeches dominating the vocals) but with more straightforward, less tech-ish riffing?

Nak'ay is awesome. PLaying with them in a few months so I'm stoked especially if they have new stuff.

Why do all Finnish grind bands have the same guitar tone and similar vocals?

THAT^... too many breakdown-y, fancy chord, slow parts and whidly wee high notes thrown in there imo. Disappointing since there's actually a few pretty solid parts in there where they get grinding. Some other folks might dig this, not my bag tho.

Same guitar tone, but this is awesome. The drums and vocals are great and they know how to pen a track. Thankfully most of the tracks are under a minute long and don't feel forced.

While on the topic of Finnish grind I caught Rotten Sound at MDF and they were pretty underwhelming. Super click-clackity drums, sterile performances and way too many stock "jun-jun" sections. Not to mention the singer told the crowd to buy their merch 4 or 5 times, (probably the most I've ever heard anyone tell a crowd to buy something).

For those that care, Infest were amazing (opne of the best bands along with Bolt Thrower, Revenge, Righteous Pigs and the Melvins), Iron Lung continue to be one of my favorite live bands, Massgrav were fun, and I found out my old boss from my highschool video-store job is the bassist of Citizen's Arrest. Ingrowing, Gride, and AHUMADO GRANUJO were all fun (Gride being the best of the Czech contingent).

Carcass were beyond boring. Left their set. It's like they forgot they helped popularize grindcore.

RE: Cut to Fit... I think I just hate that guitar tone... makes every band that uses it sound like Relapse fodder. Better than Spawn from Deceit as they spend more time grinding but still not something I'll probably ever listen to again. Not surprised you like this FM, since they have a few moshy beatdown parts (Addicted to War @ :19) but I hate that stuff haha. That beat they go into at the beginning of The Rape and a few other times throughout is also an instant turnoff for me... the vocals sound good over some parts but not so good over others... drums are pretty boss though when they stay fast. Not my bag really but I did dig the non-grindy part from :54 to 1:10 on the last track with the more guttural vocals, dude should use those more throughout.

Also, FM, funny you said Carcass was boring, I saw several people saying they were the best set!

Ingrowing is pretty sick I've got to listen to them more. That is cool about Citizens Arrest!

Rotten Sound is alright. I've listened to one of their albums (Exit i think) and I feel I don't need to ever check anything else out.

I really love Exit and you're right there's nothing worth listening to besides that. I think I might just like it though because the cover and insert is so cool (paper bag wearing guys shooting themselves in the mouth with a shotgun's what I'm all about).

You got me, that breakdown's cool...but it does go on a bit too long and "the Rape's" beginning is there jsut for me to stomp around like an idiot. Although we all overlooked the most glaring issue which is the Spongebob(?) sample that begins 'Crushing Insects" jesus christ.

Well I despise Heartwork and Swansong and that's what they were playing. It's like when I saw Entombed and they didn't have the decency to just stick with Left Hand Path and Wolverine Blues.

From what I've heard about MDF this year, it seems that Bolt Thrower, Revenge, and Infest were the absolute highlights as far as stuff I'd be interested in seeing is concerned.

I would still like to see Rotten Sound but yeah from what I've heard everything is the same but its on point so its not bad.

If anyone is interested my band will (hopefully) be recording our set this coming Friday with Special Buddy Discount. If you like early grindcore stuff you will dig us (I think).

Controlled by Fear. Named after the Fear of God song. SBD wants to put it out on Mini CD (ugh) but I might do cassettes of it. I'll send the files to anyone that wants them if we end up doing it.

Also you guys should check out the Italian band Spermbloodshit. Sounds dumb but I reviewed them and man they are pretty kick ass. Reminds me of a polished Cripple Bastards.

Best FOG song besides World Under My Fingernail. I feel like it would be lame of us to cover it though. Also Spoonful of Vicodin already did it before us it would be rude to. Wish I could have seen that band live. Broke up right after I got into the local scene here.

Woof, then I would have felt the same as you. I saw them about 5 years ago and they stuck to mostly Necroticism with a couple from Symphonies and I was a happy camper... even though I'm not even that big on Necro.... Flesh Ripping Sonic Torment forever!

Would like to hear that audio xThe_Wizard if you guys do record it. Fuck yes to both FoG and SoV.

RE: Spermbloodshit... I have mixed feelings on this. There are parts and things that rule but there are many parts and other things that make me hate this.

Things I Like:
- The thrashier parts
- The tremolo style death metal riffing parts
- The drumming (mostly)
- The artist (Zornow did a shirt design for my old band!)
- The vocals, particularly the yelled stuff, it speaks to the eternal Slayer fan in me on a primal level

Things I Hate:
- The drum sound. Seriously. That might as well be a drum machine and the kicks sound fucking TERRIBLE.
- The art
- The shitty sample choices
- Stupid Werewolf thru Cheesing and You've Got Two Testicles In Your Throat
- The guttural vocals
- Most of the subject matter

In conclusion: If they stuck to the Haemorrhage worship and did something clever with their references instead of sampling/singing about South Park they wouldn't be half bad. Also, I'm a grumpy gus who has a pretty narrow mindset when it comes to grindcore.

Speak of the devil...a friend of mine hit me up last night about going to mutual friend's house to record some grind tomorrow night. If anything, it'll be fun as hell because I've never set out with anybody to record straight-up grindcore.

Yeah that was basically my whole thing too especially the samples. FOUR SOUTH PARK SAMPLES ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? It's like on some Unseen Terror Garfield kind of shit. I like the variation between vocal styles especially the shouted vocals.

I can definitely get you some samples if we do record. This will be our first "official" show since the last one was in the middle of nowhere and didn't really have any touring bands.

i need to get back into drumming because i have a great name for a PV band. It'd just be that trailer park boys sample of Mr. Lahey saying "Even sexy people go to jail Julian" opening every song and noise because i don't know how to play guitar.

Nice wizard, Drag, what happened with that session of recording?

The bass player for my doom band wanted to do some really heavy sludgy driving stuff that was just bass and drums... he was thinking of lightening bolt and then I showed him Water Torture and Suffering bastard and now he is on board to go more in that direction just with more sludgy overtones to it. Pretty thrilled with that.

Going to track more KP this evening and tmwr.

I went and actually just sat in on the recording of scratch guitar tracks, but was asked if I wanted to start my own project and do a split! I wrote two songs last night at home and hope to have something recorded by next weekend, probably just guitars. I'm thinking about buying a used drum kit and getting my drumming chops back up to speed. Also, stoked about newer KP stuff!
