Myrath - Braving the Seas

Well, a progressive metal band with North African melodies from Tunisia is interesting, but they blow it by basically lifting everything about the guitarwork--riffs, leads, tone--from Dream Theater's Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

Although I'll give the singer credit--his melodies are better than anything that's come out of James LaBrie's mouth in the studio since around 1997.

But seriously, the guitar work is a goddamn CARBON COPY. John Petrucci called, he wants his everything back.


This might be the cloniest Dream Theater clone ever cloned, at least in terms of the metal parts.

@Woolie; you really think that? Because I find Myrath to be much more similar to Symphony X than DT.

The couple of songs I listened to gave me extremely strong Six Degrees vibes, to the point of being downright uncanny.

Winery Dogs - Elevate

It's just a generic butt rock song, but with the added "bonus" of Billy Sheehan and Mike Portnoy musically jerking each other off with random drum fills and bass runs. Richie Kotzen's vocals are obnoxious and something went absolutely, disastrously wrong with the production.

Still a spectacular release in that microcosm of Voivod-esque "post-thrash" records, rivaled only by Nothingface itself and Holocaust's Hypnosis of Birds.

I know! I'm very disappointed all they did was the single ep cause it was vicious as hell.

Blind Guardian - Valhalla

I don't think Heaven Shall Burn's cover is bad or anything, but there's a reason the original song is still a power metal classic after all these years.

Razorback - The Last Man Standing

This album is very good. It's simple, but that's one of the reasons it's so effective to my ears.

Sabbat - The Dwelling - The Melody of Death Mask

A black metal song that's about 60 minutes long?! This should be interesting for sure.

Flute in death metal? Oh yes, and it fucking works like you wouldn't believe. Awesome, awesome track.
