unfortunately every note played on Asmodeus' 'Imperium Damnatum' is edited to death. sounds impressive for the first 2 songs, then its just 100% ear fatigue.

To me, good black metal drumming is doing something interesting within a really simple and direct framework. For example, I don't know who drummed on early Clandestine Blaze material but he plays very straightforward swinging beats most times that are just locked in with the guitar/bass rhythms, only he's always doing really nimble and interesting cymbal work while this is happening.

I believe all instruments are Mikko Aspa, right?

I couldn't agree with you more on this. You are absolutely right, and I think it's one of the things that makes Proscriptor so great. He does so much with simple time signatures and frame work. He isn't going all proggy like Danny Carey, but he doesn't have to. For what he is given, he does great work, and I think that is the type of thing black metal NEEDS.

clearly Tore Stjerna is the best black metal drummer, hands down.

I knew my ears were a bad place to store all my garbage. I will let you know if his drumming gets better after garbage day

Surprised no one's mentioned Håkan Jonsson from Watain yet. Dude can blast with the best of them and his parts are, to me at least, very memorable.
