I remain unconvinced that Meilenwald uses any such shite. He might have an elongated sense of pace than some would prefer, but he's no hack. His work is NOT for the impatient. That much is clear.

Agreed 100%, and as much is evident from this new offering.

I feel that the fact that TRoB is a live band now should be discussed here.

I wish to see them live, but I hope the sheer length and repetitiveness of the songs isn't highly detrimental to the experience. It depends on the setlist, and the atmosphere that they manage to create. It would be nice if Alexander could somehow play the drums and front the band, but I agree with his decision. He's the face of the band, and it's better that he's the frontman.

I hope they played some songs from Rain Upon the Impure in that gig.

Well, so far the songs I've seen them play are "The Mine", "Between Bronze Walls", "Kain's Countenance Fell", and "I Raised This Stone As a Ghastly Memorial". Nothing from Rain Upon the Impure yet; hopefully that isn't the entire set.

I hate it when bands do that. Bolt Thrower take the cake by playing only the intro and outro of World Eater, and leaving out the actual song.

I know what you mean. Though, I'd likely end up spending so much time with my eyes shut it wouldn't be a problem. Also, if there were less light on stage it would be a lot better. When I saw Grave Miasma there was a shit load of fog and the only light in the place was a blue Fresnel on the stage floor they brought themselves (like the Ghastly Memorial video above, but .. better). So that worked great. With music like this, the more abstracted the better. Depends on the venue, obviously, but in general I think metal shows need better concept directors. But I'm just picky that way. I understand that setting up a show is not theater, but I wish it were more so. In any event .. TRoB put on a good show, apparently.

These videos are making me wish that sound board recordings were made more often. The theory's probably that it would cut down on attendance, but in my case it only makes the prospect of going more exciting. Anyone know why live sound is generally pretty bad? Is it that hard? I'm no board man, so I've no idea. I do try to stand somewhere near the focus point of the speakers, so it isn't necessarily a fault with my position.

Honestly I think it could have something to do with PA equipment in general. Metal musicians are good at getting the sounds they want out of their instruments and many producers are great at recording the stuff, but in my experience the goddamn bass is always way too loud at live shows. Bass drums turn into indistinct rumbling or, worse, wind up sounding like the bass "drum" in a Lady Gaga song or something rather than a real instrument. Bass guitar is either mixed out or turned into a continuous mess of mud where you can't tell what the hell is going on at all.

I just find it hard to believe that sound dudes are that bad at live mixing but rather that it's just some obnoxious and unavoidable feature of PA amps/speakers that automatically scoops the shit out of the whole mix.

I've been seeing a lot of good comments on their live performance. But there's still album number four yet to be released and we've been riding on this song for about a month. I hope Van records can give us a tracklist or artwork for this album soon.

Some more live videos: http://www.roadburn.com/2013/04/unexpec ... -beverast/

Edit: Only the second one (Kain's Countenance Fell) is new to this thread. Seems like they play (this song? all songs? all songs from Foulest?) slightly downtuned (A2 instead of A#2 as on the album). #mildlyinteresting

An update! Finally! Thanks a bunch for posting that, I've been getting rather... impatient for news regarding this new album. Also, that song had a somewhat (extremely) unsettling vibe. I like it! So hyped for this.

TRoB is really teasing us with new material.

The earlier track, Malefica, had such a strong doom vibe, whereas this has more of the black metal vibe that TRoB is known for. I actually didn't mind the female spoken word too. Good stuff, overall.

On further checking, I found this:
"Blood Vaults" is meant as a single huge audio opus consisting of 3 parts and divided in a total of 9 songs with a running time of over 78 minutes.

I guess the three different parts might be slightly different stylistically. Can't wait for this!

Judging by these two songs that have been offered to us so far, I'm conjecting Blood Vaults to be top 5 releases of 2013, absolutely.

Hmm...not bad per sé, but definitely not as great as I hoped for. ''Malefica'' still rules though. That one sounds so hypnotising and eerie not to mention the riffs on that track sound like walls closing on.

Here's another song called "Daemon". http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/15840-daemon/

Giving first listen to it now.

EDIT: This might be the best of the three leaked tracks so far. Listen to this now!

Okay, so I LOVED the first track they posted (Malefica) and it bumped me up from "casual fan" to "rabid hype-ridden bat thing", but this second one (Ordeal) left me blueballed. They rode one mediocre riff for the entire song, I realize it's a piece of the greater scheme but if the album ends up mostly being comprised of shit like that I'll be fairly disappointed. Gonna listen to Daemon now, let's see how it is!

Great stuff! More dooooom, more atmosphere! The album is shaping up quite brilliantly if I must say so. Malefica is still my favorite of the three songs though, with this new track a very close second.

For anyone else who is deeply interested in how/where Meilenwald got his ideas for the record, you might want to read this wikipedia page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malleus_Maleficarum

I looked up Heinrich Kramer out of blazing curiousity, and apparently he is one of the authors of the Malleus Maleficarum (the song Malefica immediately came to mind). Malleus Maleficarum literally translates to Hammer of the Witches, and is split into three sections. This makes sense because the album is going to be split into three sections aswell. The wikipedia page goes on to elaborate what is detailed in the three sections. Maybe some of you RoB worshipers already knew about this, but I didn't, and it's very interesting to say the least!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Pestilence has an album called Malleus Maleficarum too.

Meilenwald has expressed his love of early death metal, and it has been showing in his songwriting more and more. I think he mentioned Pestilence as one of the bands that he likes the most, even.

Ah, the same image used in the previous youtube video. Was there an official press release for this by Ván Records? I could only find this.

This link to 'Daemon' wasn't linked on this page, so here it is - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYfGnMEf ... e=youtu.be
It shows, what possibly could be, the rest of the artwork.

Judging from the song titles (i. e. Apologia & A Failed Exorcism) and the cover art, which looks like Heinrich Kramer in the process of writing Malleus Maleficarum while his own personal demon leers over his shoulder, it seems to me the concept of the album will be how ideological oppressors like Kramer do what they do because they themselves struggle with some repressed frustration that they project on whomever (e. g. witches) they're oppressing.

Anyone else has a similar feeling?

Malefica and Daemon seriously rule though. Those clean vocals in the former are really spine-chillingly beautiful. I really love how versatile a vocalist Meilenwald is, especially considering how his growls are completely different from those on Foulest Semen. As if Blood Vaults had another vocalist.

EDIT: formatting + spelling

For whatever reason these preview tracks aren't quite convincing me to the degree I'd hoped. Don't get me wrong, they're very solid and I have no doubt this album will kick a fair amount of ass, but I suppose I was hoping for something a bit more ambitious. The compositions are a bit on the simple/monotonous side and we're not exactly hearing much that's new or unexpected. I suppose context changes things, these might have a different character playing their proper role on the full album, but I'm not quite getting the engulfing feeling yet that Rain and Foulest Semen provided. Also not sure if the slightly clearer (more drum-heavy?) production style was the best choice, I feel TRoB's atmosphere thrives better with more cobwebs in the mix.

deathmetal.org finally find out about TRoB, somehow get to listen to the whole new album and promptly take a piss. Eh.

The review is remarkably pretentious and fatuous, even for their standards, but I must admit that some points confirm the impression I got from the preview tracks.

Seriously. It's not like that changes the whole meaning of the name or anything...oh wait it does.

Plus he says they have "potential" - as if they aren't already highly regarded as one of the better BM bands around in the last 5-7 years.
