Are there any kick-ass albums similar to Orange Goblin´s Eulogy for the damned?

Ereb Altor's first album. Second and third are more leaned towards black metal.

Motorhead's Inferno, Red Fang's debut, The Ethereal Mirror by Cathedral and more or less all the albums by Grand Magus.

Old Season. Mainly epic/heavy metal, with doom/folk/symphonic touches.

Mael Mordha is Gaelic epic doom/folk.

To correct the guy above, the first two Ereb Altor albums are doom, only the third is black metal. They are heavily inspired by Bathory, and I'd say just go to bathory since it has a much greater folk influence.

Atlantean Kodex has a raw, ancient atmosphere and lyrical theme that could easily be described as folky/vikingish. A lot like Bathory again.

Honestly in all these bands (including the ones in others comments), the folk influence is a bit abstract. If you want something obvious like flutes in your epic doom, I'm not sure I can help. Except for Mael Mordha, that track had flutes.

What Mael Mordha album has the most use of flutes?

This doesn't really fit in with your request but the bass player's other band Samothrace is well worth checking out as well if you're not already familiar with them.

Speaking of the Seattle Doom Metal scene, check out Anhedonist as well.

I don't think anything I've said is incorrect. By Honour had a strong Bathory vibe but it's mostly an epic folk/doom record. Since they've signed with Napalm Records they've taken more viking/folk direction. The End is 70% doom and 30% viking/folk and Gastrike is mostly a Blood Fire Death styled viking/black metal album with little to none doom.

I don't hear it in The End at all. Specifically which parts are you talking about?

Not as dominant but there are enough traces of their latter direction (as I've mentioned above, Blood Fire Death styled black/viking metal with little to none doom on Gastrike) on "The End" trilogy, the last three songs.

Barbarian Winter started out decently enough but it lost me completely towards the end. A good trimming of 15-20 minutes (3 or 4 songs) would have done the album some good. I can appreciate the idiosyncratic vocals and guitar tone, though. Perhaps I should give it another chance to grow on me but this is far from being a priority right now. There are, after all, better doom releases to spend your time on. Like the excellent new Uncle Acid album for example.

I'm really digging Oak & Bone, and would be interested in hearing more bands that mix stoner and hardcore punk. The inclusion of psychedelia is always a plus. Here's an example:

Been coming back to some stoner/doom again lately, so... can anyone recommend some stoner/doom similar to Electric Wizard's "Supercoven" EP? Great lyrics, heavy as fuck, "solos" and aggressive vocals. I know most of the obvious bands, so please dig a little deeper than Sleep, thanks in advance!

Anyway, here are some really heavy fuzzy stuff to enjoy with your bong.

Started listening to Floor not too long ago and they are pretty awesum. I'd like to hear a hardcore band cover them. But does anyone know anything like that? Really downtuned guitars and clean vocals.

Well, old Floor had a pretty serious Melvins vibe. The later stuff was more similar to Torche, which is the band that Floor essentially morphed into. Check out Torche's first album, and for the Melvins stuff check out everything up through Houdini minus Lysol (which is...meh). After that they started getting weirder/more varied and some of the experiments didn't really take as well as others.

I downloaded the album, and there is WAY too much Sabbath plagarizm for me. Sabbath WORSHIP is fine, I love Pentagram's Day of Reckoning and Sleep's Holy Mountain, but Mouths of Madness crosses the line from worship into plagarizm.

I agree, DMA, I had to stop the album, it was very boring and generic and the debut is way better and a bit more original. Pass for me!

I'm listening to the new Spiritual Beggars, it's quite good so far!

:) You guys made me postpone checking out the new Orchid. For the time being anyway! I've been listening to some 'Brothers of the Sonic Cloth'. A bit of tone worship but good enough sludge to satiate my needs.

I second the Orchid recommendation. They are from the Bay Area and really cool guys to hang out/toke with.

Thanks Elizabeth! Now that my semester is over, I can write more reviews! I was supposed to review the new Black Capricorn but meh, they're breaking up, I should still listen to it though, I heard that it was better than their debut.

I'll review the new Black Oath and Jex Thoth for doom.

Hey guys, first post here, so go easy. (Not ready to mosh yet, still feeling out the band if you catch my drift.)

So a big fan of Doom and Stoner stuff, just now getting into sludge. I've done some looking about, and the main sludge band I've really like is Beastwars, so I'm looking for more stuff in that vein. (Vocals are my main stickler; I get picky as hell.) I prefer either a more natural yell sound, or a bit more of a raspy growl, similar to the Beastwars vocalist.

I'm also on the look for some Doom incorporating some violins, cellos, or stand-up bass. Preferably on the epic or depressive side.

(Also, I know many here might not like it, but I'm religious, so no Anti-Christian/Anti-Religous stuff.)

You may already know this band, but for depressive stuff with violins, check out the My Dying Bride albums Turn Loose the Swans, The Angel and the Dark River, and Like Gods of the Sun. Also check out the Celestial Season albums Forever Scarlet Passion and Solar Lovers.

You could check out Aarni. Very avantgarde but worth a look.

Then there's Phlebotomized, avantgarde doom/death.

Speaking of Aarni, do you know of any similar bands to these guys? I've never heard anything quite like Aarni before, though this band reminds me of another that I just can't remember the name of at the moment.
