Blind Guardian - A Voice in the Dark, off At the Edge of Time

"Black shadows; they hide, and they wait..... BUT THEY SOON WILL RETUUUUUURN!!!"

Also, just realized that this song's lyrical content is inspired by A Song of Ice and Fire. Cool.

Incantation - Deliverance of Horrific Prophecies

...someone snuck some slams into a '92 death metal album. I didn't know slams were a thing back then.

Ducktales Theme Song

I seriously think this is the catchiest cartoon intro ever.

Amorphis - Sampo

Very catchy and accesible melodic stuff. Can't say I enjoy the vocals anymore though.

Demons & Wizards - Heaven Denies

Sounds like some of the better Iced Earth tracks, with different vocals. Surprised I never heard anything off this project before.

Oh man, just wait until you get to Fiddler on the Green!

Kamelot - Prodigal Son, off Silverthorn

Mournful, evocative, sentimental..... Sublime.

That was a good song, and "Poor Man's Crusade" was legitimately kick ass, but everything else was pretty boring overall. Not terrible, but meh, couldn't get through the whole album either way.

Paragon - Allied Forces

So good. The archetypical early-2000s PM band really...heavy, catchy and fun. Back when Piet Sielck was the king of the genre.

Speaking of Immolation, the new album's cover is bitchin'

Obliteration - Ingesting Death
Giving this record another spin. Really cool death metal from Norway. And yes, it's old-school influenced of course.

Bethlehem - 3rd Nocturnal Prayer

It's lateish, and I have to start work at 6am tomorrow, and this isn't helping me stay awake with it's crushing weight of bleak'n'black doooooom. Very heavy listening, in a good way.

Alice in Chains - Sludge Factory

The s/t is just one of those special albums that comes along once in a lifetime. Doubt their new material is as good, though I look forward to checking it out sometime.

Woods of Ypres - Travelling Alone

Alot of people don't like this band, and trust me I know they're not the best in the world, but they were one of my transition bands. You know the bands that got you into metal and other styles of metal. I was into really terrible music in early high school, and then I found stoner/doom/sludge and this band + Darkthrone helped me move on to black metal and eventually other forms of extreme metal. Plus I love David Gold's singing voice and the early albums where he used more Black metal screaming mixed with the clean singing were pretty sweet.
