Quite new to black metal and today, for the first time I finally dug Burzum after just not understanding it until now.
I think my first purchase will be 'Filosofem', any advice on where to go next?

Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is the only Burzum album you really need. If you enjoy that one I recommend working backwards from there and picking up Filosofem last. Perhaps someone else can fill you in on his post-prison stuff I only ever listened to Belus

All of his post prison stuff is good to my ears. But yea, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Filosofem are his best from the earlier years. I've never been such a huge fan of the stuff before Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, I might get stabbed for that, I know.

Personally, my five favourite(metal) albums of Burzum are the two mentioned before, and the three post-prison albums: Belus, Fallen and Umskiptar.

MANY will disagree vehemently.

Seconded. I think of it as the best Burzum album. The track Det Som Engang Var is utterly fantastic.

Check out Japanese Funeral Rites.
Their demos are incredible, highly similar to Burzum, and also the full-length is great (though, the creepy sound is a bit more polished).

Perfect replacement for Burzum without an idiot in the band.
