Black Gives Way to Blew was less than appealing for me. The new album cover looks good, though, and I like the song titles. I've never been much of an Alice fan, but I may give this a shot.

I'm sure many of you are more excited than I. Yes?

Indeedy. I really liked BGWTB, and I see no reason to be cautious about this new release. Jerry and the boys are still quite the energetic bunch (that is, in their own specially depressive way), and I'm sure that TDPDH will be, if anything, solid as hell.

BGWTB was less than appealing? Dude it's on par with Dirt and Facelift. Sometimes I think it's even better than those two records. And hell yeah I'm damn excited for the new one. Just heard a bit of the new single "Stone". The opening riff sounds like it begins where "Check My Brain" left off. Extremely crunchy and Stoner rock-ish. I think the new record would be a pretty much doom/stoner album. After all BGWTB pointed in that direction.

Edit: Meh. You gave King Animal a 88%!? I would give it a low 50. :-P Such a boring and uninspired Audioslave-ish album.

The OP wasn't mentioning the name of the band, even if it was obvious it was about AIC.

I'm a fan of Alice In Chains and have that music box boxset... I had no clue this thread was about Alice In Chains till the title was corrected.

I'm a pretty big fan of anything AiC, plus Jerry Cantrell's solo stuff so I'm looking forward to this. That said, I thought the recent single 'Hollow' wasn't particularly interesting.

What a shitty title. Terrible artwork too. I LOVED Black Gives Way to Blue and even though I am cautiously optimistic, I don't see why this won't be another killer album.

I actually LOVED the single. Can't wait for the album.

Is there a press release or somesuch? With the album art? I could google it, but I'm lazy and it's nice when the OP gives information upfront.

Still scratching my head over that album title but I'm also pretty damn excited. Certainly would be hard to screw up at this rate.

Black Gives Way to Blue was excellent, and probably the best comeback album ever.

I hope the new one is solid also.

I'm going to see them live in Camden 10 days before the album drops. I'm really hoping they bust out some tunes from this! Alice in Chains and Jerry Cantrell have yet to do wrong, in my eyes.

Supposedly, "Stone" will be released as a single tomorrow.

Apparently the album art is getting the expected transformation.

i am a completely and unashamedly ridiculous alice in chains fanboy. black gives way to blue was the best album i'd heard in a LONG time, and their new single was even better than anything on that album imo. i am really looking forward to the new album.

on a related note, what did you guys think of the new soundgarden? (can't remember if we talked about it here). nowhere near on the level of classic as the last aic, but damn solid all the same.

I've mentioned King Animal above. I think it was well below average for Soundgarden. The first six songs are ok although "Blood on the Valley Floor" is a great tune and reminded me of Badmotorfinger for a moment. Apart from that I didn't quite like it.

God that album title sucks no matter what........... But I look forward to hearing this record. BGWTB was good. It surprised me how above par I thought it was going to be.

Cantrell has explained that the album title is directed at the malpractices of religion and politics. Here's the brief lyrics of the title track: "The devil put dinosaurs here / Jesus don't like a queer / No problem with faith / Just fear". I think it's a spectacular and bold title.

I assumed that anyway, I still think it's a silly album name.
I've only heard Hollow so far, but I like it. The main riff during the verse is quite Stoner Doom-y.

Mods, please make a tiny correction to the title of this thread. The album title is The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. There's an additional 'the' in front of Dinosaurs. :-P

I'm surprised at the number of people that didn't like the artwork/title. It really gets you thinking, and it's simple but invokes so much. If anything this is making me feel the opposite about everyone else, I might overhype this a little. BGWTB Was phenominal, but I don't think I want to hear a BGWTB 2.0... I listened to Hallow a while ago and felt a little underwhelmed, even though the song was really good. I just don't want them to get stale all of a sudden. Still got Stone to listen to.

Stone sounds pretty good, kinda reminds me of the bridge riff on Acid Bubble in a way. Looking forward to hearing it in the full context of the album.

Always dug on some AiC. Thought the last album they did was ace. Like that newer song that I've been hearing. Guessing it's gonna be on here. That title is stupid as fuck though.

I thought BGWTB was pretty cool. They will never top Facelift or Dirt, but it was solid nonetheless. I expect the new one to be pretty good as well.

Fuck clouds, I can't listen to the new goddamn songs :crash:

I trust that they are awesome though. I just have one question; how similar are they to the BGWTB material?

They are very similar, only heavier, doomier and more stoner oriented. "Voices" is the only song on the album which has acoustic touch I reckon.

Thanks for that link, Ozzy. Stone sounds mighty cool, and as Doomster said, they seem to be developing the sound they had in the previous album. I'm definitely buying this baby.

Thanks for the links guys. ''Phantom'' sounds really, really good. You know the riffs are always going to be quality and catchy with Layne and the Chains (whoops). The vocal harmonies are out of this world, really haunting. ''I will haunt you like a second skin'' fuck yeah. Stone sounds just as good, that groovy main riff is almost instantly iconic. This album will be great. But who ever doubted that?
