Voivod - The Outer Limits (1993)

Been playing Target Earth a lot recently which has made me go back to re-listen to the 90's albums that I have neglected.

Killswitch Engage - In Due Time

I'm pretty impressed with this new track with Jesse Leach. These guys sound better than ever in my opinion. I still have a nostalgic softspot for KsE because they were one of those gateway bands into Metal for me.

Slayer - Spirit in Black, off Season in the Abyss

One of my all time favorites by Araya and company. The riffing here is pure madness, and I love the little (and quite literal) shout outs to previous albums :-D

^^Love that song. Jeff's solos on it are brilliant. Actually, even Kerry's I don't mind on that track.

Aye, Mars. One of the best songs from that album, most definitely. Up there with the stuff like titletrack and Skeletons of Society.

Rhino - Wendigo, off Dead Throne Monarch

This song is not unlike a more sinister Alice in Chains, at least from a lyrical standpoint. Quite cool.

Stratovarius - Lifetime in a Moment

Still don't have 'Nemesis', so I'm listening to 'Elysium' again. I hate to say it, but even though he was crazy, I have a hard time thinking of this as being truly Stratovarius without Tolkki. I definitely like it though.

Rotting Christ - Triarchy of the Lost Lovers

The work of the Greeks in the black and death metal arenas during the 90's is truly unique. Bands like RC and Septicflesh really knew how to lay down landscapes of beautiful guitar antiquity, not forgetting to write unforgettable songs in the process. Their feel for atmosphere remains unequaled.

They also knew how to work in melody without sounding flowery bullshit and keep it sounding raw and powerful.
