Hi all. I can't seem to get enough dissonant metal these days. Here are some of my faves. Can you think of other bands that are a bit more experimental-dissonant that I need to listen to?

Portal
Ulcerate
Gorguts
Mitochondrian
Antediluvian

randos: Krallice, Nails, Torche, Wilson Pickett

Blut aus Nord has several dissonant albums. start with "the work which transforms god". also try deathspell omega, and perhaps axis of perdition, and leviathan if you don't already know those bands.

Their first record is a lot more straightforward than their second record. I would actually recommend the second one above the first one.

Flourishing. Intersubjectivty is simply amazing. Has that dissonant, but sometimes catchy feeling that Ulcerate have.

http://thepathlesstraveledrecords.bandc ... bjectivity

As someone else said, Deathspell Omega from Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum onward, particularly Paracletus and Drought which merge dissonance and atonality with sparks of melody and is just perfect.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX6h5RP3GNs from Paracletus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnNZuttrIyY from Drought

As for Morbid Angel and Immolation, they're not the most dissonant bands as they're pretty much forefathers of US Death Metal. Covenant is my favorite MA release, but it's probably their most accessible. Immolation's a bit different with their affinity for rhythm and awkward phrasing.

Immolation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGKT7b6nxNQ Close to a World Below might be your best bet.

Morbid Angel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oj23TAh5MY8 Formulas Fatal to the Flesh might be what you're after as you want more dissonance.

You may try:
Impetuous Ritual (Portal side-project) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ3q9O3HVcU
Ritual Necromancy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW7jGnLokt4
Muknal - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMAStV33Lbg (live track only)

EDIT - No, Dragged into Sunlight are definitely not dissonant enough...

+1 to flourishing, they are brilliant
also, perhaps:
Baring Teeth
Acrimonious' debut Purulence
Vengeful have some killer dissonant sections but not as many as other bands mentioned
Azoic - Gateways

If you don't mind grind check out Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire. Pretty intense and full of twisted dissonant melodies. The mainman's new sludge/hardcore project Primitive Man is well worth a listen as well. It carries over the same type of riffing as his main project but it's ridiculously catchy and heavy as all get out.

Also KHANATE

Slime in the Current is another less known band. Fairly similar to Mitochondrion.

If you're into DsO and BaN, check Fides Inversa and Reverence (fr).

In a totally different style but quite disharmonic, try Thorns.

This . Great band from the more crusty/sludgy gring end of the spectrum.

Try this underated french tech black band called asmodee.
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Asmod%C3%A9e/22565

all three of their full lenghts are highly recommended. They are NOT like Deathspell or any o those Disso- Death bands weitjher. Veyr original cleanly prodcued styled with amazing guitar , bass and drum work that is precise and yet has dissonance in almost every song. Fast yet jazz like in places, but never overboard.

Also if you havent heard them yet, Voivod.
