A better way to tell if someone is a poser is if they put down pantera's heavy metal days and raise up their groove metal days to an unwarranted degree as these both align with prevailing hipster positions: bashing glamtera for being glamorous even though they were actually a solid metal band and saying that groovetera was better than they were in order to spite imaginary armies of elitists.

CFH and VDoP both had pretty big helpings of proper heavy metal, as did far beyond driven... The glamtera I've heard has been pretty bad, a few power metal songs are ok but everything from jungle/magic/i am the night is pretty awful. Also, how is liking a band aligned with groove metal a "prevailing hipster position"? I accept your last point though and acknowledge that as a burn.

I'm currently checking out Johnny Marr's debut solo album. Seems pretty decent, but I doubt it will have the staying power of the old Smith's stuff. Also still on my MBV kick, which is just a fantastic thing to be on.

So yeah. Not much metal for me so far this year, but I'm sure that'll change somewhere down the road.
