but Situs Magus is amazing...vocals are awesome. Even more so what I'm looking for! I'm digging Nightbringer as well. Their band logo is fucking awesome. Great recommendations man! I appreciate it. \m/

EDIT* I also just lisened to this song called Aorta Of My Thoughts by Ceslestial Bloodshed that was in the related section for nightbringer on soundcloud...also very awesome. I feel like i need to thank you for that find as well. :)

Cool man, glad I could help. If you liked Situs Magus you should maybe check Loss if you're not familiar with them.

Winterfylleth

Moradin

I wouldn't really call these guys experimental either but they kinda have the same vibe as some of the other stuff so worth a shot.

Bestia Arcana seems pretty awesome based on the video you linked me.. Checking more into their stuff, and Dead Shell of Universe still. (they were suggested to me earlier) Andacht is a great album, example of what I'm looking for..good production quality but still black and grim. It's a masterpiece if you ask me. I know there is great music out there I haven't discovered yet..glad for any other suggestions you might have.

I also already know of Nazxul, one of my my favorites! both slipped my mind when I was listing symphonic bands. :) I go through my phases, I'm always looking for new music and try not to play out the gems of my collection like I have with albums in the past. Good to hear such tasteful suggestions though. If anyone knows of anymore bands like Nazxul that would be great...

Thank you! \m/

No worries :) Sadly, I don't know of anything off the top of my head that sounds like Nazxul, but I do have a couple more recommendations for you that have that experimental 'vibe' to them in a similar vein to DSO, but they're both a bit more melodic.

The first would be Germany's Ascension. I think they're often associated with that whole 'orthodox black metal' movement like DSO and others, but are admittedly less 'weird'/experimental or what have you. Good band though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n83A6DO58Zw (sorry about the crappy video quality).

Another band from Germany actually - Odem Arcarum might fit what you're looking for. I've only heard their 2010 album that has a ridiculously long name, but they definitely have a bit of experimentation going on that you might like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-Ui2AJHir4.

I'm running out of bands that I can think of that are similar to DSO, but if you're interested I might have a few recs based on the more atmospheric/symphonic bands you listed. On another note, dontlivefastjustdie, cheers for linking Situs Magus! Just having a listen to them now, great band you found there

Actually, I do have one other band for you unrelated to the other bands I've linked above. Would Secrets of the Moon be too obvious a general recommendation for you? They have the good production that you mentioned you liked, and to be honest I haven't really heard anything quite like them (they do remind me a little of Ruins of Beverast in the doomier parts). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcXbsOVdwbk

If you like Ruins of Beverast, definatly checkout Verdunkeln. The dude from ROB was in Verdunkeln, and the similarities are there. I prefer the first album

Also if you want more dissonance, check out Void (from uk), Haeiresis, and Inlaid Rust. All have that industrial BM sound similar to blut aus Nord and axis of perdition.

Loss isn't so much my taste, I've never been into depressive/doom stuff but I do think they sound better than most bands I've heard in the sub genre.

Vattnet Viskar, Winterfylleth and Moradin are great recommendations. I really like the song Gateway to the Dark Peak/The Solitary One Waits for Grace by Winterfylleth. Vattnet Viskar kind of reminds me of Iskald and the Canadian band Dark Forest, which is good because these bands are outstanding in my opinion. I really liked the album artwork for Moradin. Good production quality and the clean vocals weren't too bad either. :) Thanks again!

I love Ascension and Odem Arcarum. :) I found these bands earlier on in 2012. These bands are a good example of what I'm looking for as well. I really appreciate good production quality that doesn't sound mainstream haha. Also, this probably sounds stupid but I have heard some of Secrets of the Moon's songs but I completely overlooked them. I guess they weren't what i was looking for at the time. My taste has changed allot since then, already revisiting this band and found two songs that I do like. Thanks again for the advice! \m/

You could give Svartidaudi's Flesh Cathedral a listen. There's a lot to like there: long epic songs with dissonant riffage, slightly psychedelic undertones, good production with prominent bass etc.

If you are looking for something rather weird and quirky and really damn obscure I'd suggest The Sprawlcosm. Their one full-length is a strange mix of industrial/electronics/black metal and even some jazz. I could do without all the jazz parts myself, but that certainly has a hand in making this album really weird. The themes are heavily cyberpunk inspired too, so if you are into that, then it's all the more reason to check out this band.

Link to M-A page: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/The ... cosm/16540

I have this album on CD, so if you are curious to listen to it and can't find it anywhere, let me know.

I've heard a few songs off of Void's Posthuman, I could never find much of their stuff though. Same with Haeiresis. Verdunkeln and Inlaid rust seem awesome so far. :) Thanks for the suggesions.

If you like Verdunkeln, check out Nagelfar also if you haven't already. Shares both The Ruins of Beverast and Verdunkeln members and is equally as good as Verdunkeln, and way way better than The Ruins of Beverast.

Most i would recommend have already been said (Sigh, Kekal, Diabolical Masquerade, Morgul etc...), but maybe these may also interest you

Nocte Obducta
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLTh0iRJ2fc

Root- not BM anymore, but definitely unique...even their old BM stuff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_lQMUzZBnA

Myrkgrav - just folky black metal, but maybe you'll like it

What about Post-Black metal? I noticed you said you didn't like clean vocals, so maybe try Altar of Plagues or Lantlos.

For Folky/Atmospheric BM, try October Falls, Skagos, Wolves in the Throne Room, and Falls of Rauros.

Oh, and I almost forgot, you'd probably love Geist. Listen to their second latest album, Galeere (I haven't heard their latest yet). It's ocean-themed, but very tastefully done.

Thank you. :) Great suggestions, I loved the songs you linked me for Nocte Obducta and Myrkgrav. I appreciate it.

And I know of Sad Legend I listened to them when I first got into metal actually. I haven't listened to them in awhile though, the song Nocturnal Cries of Agony was very played out for me haha.

No problem. :)

Srontgorrth is my favorite of their albums, especially the first song (Kapitel eins, der Frühling: Als die Tore sich öffnen...). So, I'd definitely be sure not to miss that album and song. But I'd check out all three of their full-lengths definitely.

My pleasure. Yes, Nagelfar is one of my favorites, both them and Verdunkeln are top notch.

I'd also recommend Nåstrond for some highly unique black metal. Not experimental per say, but you won't find another band that sounds anything like them. Especially try out Toteslaut.

Check out my side-project, Ba'Zuulizx. Very dark, dissonant LLN style black metal.

This thread is gold for finding bands. Anyway two groups from germany, Horn and Schattenvald.

Horn isn't really experimental, but they're still pretty unique. Reverb drenched folky guitar combined with slight keyboard use and some accoustics. Gives you the feeling that you are stuck alone on top of some alpine mountain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiSlvqRSY1M

Schattenvald is what happens when you take the foresty blend of german bm and add a lot of layering, rapidly changing riffs and overt melody.
