I'm pretty sure your thinking of a GG Allin song. There isn't one to my knowledge.

Nope iAm, just found them. Based on their name, themes and songtitles, I think I have a pretty good idea of what they sound like.

I don't think there's any proof of that actually working, so I'm gonna have to do some quick research on that soon.
Also, acupuncture has been scientifically proven to not work.

Anyone would feel better after being poked by hundreds of needles and then having them removed. As far as any actual benefits from the procedure I know of none.

Well, there is some credit to it. It lightly stimulates nerves to produce a feeling experienced as pleasure and euphoria. But if we're talking about curing disease or fixing chronic pain, of course it's not going to do that. Unless you're looking to feel nice for an hour, there's no real benefit to it.

That's hardly surprising, people believe crystals, magnets or chiropractic work. Funnily enough, acupuncture has been shown to have slight therapeutic effect... but then, so has "sham" acupuncture, i.e. needles being inserted in any region, not just the "meridian" areas that acupuncture claims are relevant. No more than placebo, of course.

I think you misunderstood Crick's point. He wasn't disagreeing with you, he pointed you to an example of Chinese "medicine" that was obviously completely bogus (e.g. using a toxic substance like asbestos to treat impotence).

So, I finally ended my first semester in Telecommunications engineering at capital city, I can go back to my hometown and rest a bit, I have all february to do so, watch friends again, practice some guitar, yeah, vacations rule man.

Last week my dad gave me a deck of playing cards with a really cool design, I've never been much a card guy, but I've been digging this a lot, learning some magic tricks, flourishes and stuff, specially with these videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNIJTRsE ... 42&index=2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uisgjV8J ... 42&index=7

Any other card fan? :D

Westerners seem to be far more open to woo of all kinds when it's from the "mysterious orient."

I wonder if there's a heap of people in China who are really keen on bloodletting, balancing humours, pinning four-leaf clovers all over stuff, etc.

Well, I now officially know what it's like to be properly intoxicated. Last night was my first time out in the pubs, and Jesus Christ the drinks I had. About 6 or 7 vodkas mixed with red bull, a yagre bomb shot I think one was called, a bottle of raspberry vodka, a bottle of apple cider and a couple of others. I felt a little shit today (but not as bad as I and others were expecting), but hey, best fun I've had in years, so I guess the aftermath is worth it. :D

That article gave me the impression that the majority of "Chinese medicine" is only even given the time of day within China. Are there really black markets in America selling powdered tiger penis in the streets?

Not very often, but I've actually heard of it being bought.

I've spent every possible moment during the past two weeks at work with the headphones on, listening to Primordial off YouTube while toiling on the piles of documents I need to finish. I seriously need a ticket for their show a month from now. What a wonderful band!

Ireland had Primordial and Dylan Moran. Therefore, the country beats Albania and Belgium, at least.

Aye, Primordial and Moran are by far some of their best cultural exports. I like the way you think.

Personally I don't think chiropractors are a sham, I used to until I broke down and started seeing one. I had messed up my back really bad and my sciatic nerve was being pinched so much that I couldn't even stand for more than 5 minutes without being in excruciating pain. Now days I just go every two weeks to keep up the maintenance so it never happens again.

Agreed. Primordial are truly one of metaldom's finest acts around, and I'm jealous you'll get to see them, as they will probably never come to Australia. I'm curious to know what particular albums/tracks you've been 'tubing though Nappy?

Beer is a BIG plus for Belgium, yes. But beer is kinda like potatoes, so beloved by the Irish; beer it's a basic staple grocery, not culture in this sense. You can survive without Primordial and Dylan Moran, but trying to survive without beer and other vitamins? No thank you. You all can risk your lives and health this way if you wish, but I'm not making bets with mine.

CrushedRevelation wrote:

It usually begins with Coffin Ships, and then moves to other tracks in illogical ways. Whatever YouTube happens to decide would interest me each time.

That and chocolates are the probably their only saving grace :) As far as music goes, I can't think of anything worth mentioning apart from very early Aborted music. Ireland seems quite mystical to me. I would love to visit that country sometime.

Thin Lizzy is Ireland's best export. Primordial is kinda meh except in certain moods, like when you're sitting outside on a windy, sunny day with a bag of weed; then that shit is just epic (be careful with the weed though or it's going to make a Bob Dylan).

What about Mourning Beloveth? They're quite fantastic. My pick from Ireland are Primordial and them. Thin Lizzy is ok when I'm in mood for some groove laden bluesy hard rock. They're a bit overrated as well. I'll pick bands like Savoy Brown and Budgie over them anyday.

The European Court of Human Rights decides that current copyright law violates freedom of speech. :)

Quote:
This means that people can no longer get convicted for violating the copyright monopoly alone. The court just declared it illegal for any court in Europe to convict somebody for breaking the copyright monopoly law when sharing culture, only on the merits of breaking the law. A court that tries somebody for violating the copyright monopoly must now also show that a conviction is necessary to defend democracy itself in order to convict. This is a considerably higher bar to meet.

That still leaves a lot of room for corporate lawyers of course, but it's a step in the right direction. Basically breaking the copyright law when practicing freedom of speech is theoretically protected now.

I'm inclined to agree man. Before that, I just had a few vodkas and a beer (yuck, I have established myself as not a fan of beer) and my eyes were a little drowsy but nothing major. After that jagerbomb, I dunno man, something in me changed. I started laughing at everything and was treating people I had only met an hour before as if they were decade-old friends, which is pretty damn good for me considering I have a pretty bad case of social anxiety. I guess the term "Liquid courage" has serious merit.

Attempting to use ethnography which is based around mosh-pits in an anthropology essay... I think I might be treading the line between valid points and just annoying whoever has to mark it.

Well, from my experience man, beer just tastes fucking terrible. But then, being Australian, I'm just used to the shitty cheap stuff that is so common here. I'm sure there are some very nice beers elsewhere, such as in Germany. But yeah, vodka and cider are the tastes I have acquired, I think.

Such as sodas or juice? Let's face it: You probably just like the sweet stuff. So perhaps saying you like vodka is a bit misleading.

Well, I did have it mostly with red bull. So I guess, yeah that's possible. To be fair, I have no real idea what is what when it comes to alcohol, it was my cousin that was taking care of all that shit. I just know all the beer I've tasted is just foul.

Beer (like basically all liquor) is a bit of an acquired taste. Drink more beer and you'll probably learn to appreciate it.

Also, shitty cheap beer is common everywhere. There's good Australian beers to be had, just as there's heaps of shit German beers.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we played with that band in Lansing. They were fun as far as I remember, but do I really need to say that's a horrible name for your band? :P

The new Manilla Road album is stellar and for a metal-archives phenomenon that's been around since 1978 (almost as long as metal-archives itself I believe!) I'm super-impressed. Bastardhead is going to be wrong about everything from now on. Hopefully this will result in some more crazy mishaps/funny stories. :D

Beer (like basically all liquor) is a bit of an acquired taste. Drink more beer and you'll probably learn to appreciate it.

Also, shitty cheap beer is common everywhere. There's good Australian beers to be had, just as there's heaps of shit German beers.
