Now, from where did you and your sense on comedy emigrate before you ended up in Germany?

Face it, inhumanist. German humour is as notoriously bad as Finnish folk metal.

I think that last one may secretly be brilliant.

Or not.

Or the counterexamples just never get translated. It's true though, bad humor is alarmingly popular here. Particularly what the private networks call "comedy".

But enough of that, we don't want to derail the thread, do we?

A friend of mine's friend's brother was/is in a joke band called Zombies On Xtc.

Yeah...

Not that bad as such, but I always wondered what the fuck Kreator and Metallica were supposed to actually mean.
Kreator of what? Isn't that like calling your band God? And Metallica simply doesn't mean anything at all. Then there is Megadeth (mispelled)...
Plus all the several-word metalcore (or whatever derivatives) crap: Bring Me The Horizon, Taking Back Sunday, Poison The Well, etc etc etc...

Metallica is actually the Spanish word for "metal", although in that language it's only spelled with one "L".

This is kind of a dumb complaint. The noun stands perfectly well alone... Yes, I suppose it is like calling your band god, except it sounds fucking metal and gets extra kvlt points for having a K.

I've always thought that Darkthrone is a bit of a crappy name. Tries too hard to be evil and comes across as silly instead. Dark Funeral as well. And probably everything else with 'dark' in it; adding it to your band name seems like a good way to avoid it sounding dark or mysterious. Doesn't really bother me, though.

What does 'trying too hard' to be anything, really even mean anymore? People throw that phrase around like crazy and never bother explaining...plus, Darkthrone's name came from the lyrics of Celtic Frost's "Jewel Throne," and it's an awesome name.

Hellyeah is a pretty stupid name, but, despite being in the vast minority here, they're stupidly fun. Massachist is a silly name too.

Not metal, but American Head Charge is a stupid name, and their music is nothing spectacular either.

It means trying to be something without consideration for anything else, in this case throwing two words together for maximum evilness without considering if the combination might sound silly. Dark Funeral is actually more guilty of this, but I don't care for them so their name bothers me less. Obviously, it's hardly a deal-breaker, but I've never liked the name. Might just be that I don't like the word 'dark', as well.

Rumpelstiltskin Grinder they arent very good either.

Pomegranate Tiger - They write some neat music but the name is silly.

Fleshgod Apocalypse is another kinda dumb band name. Pretty sweet music though

And I thought it came from a part in The Lord Of The Rings where it says something about Sauron's "dark throne"...

But yeah, Celtic Frost was definitely a bigger influence than Tolkien.

Throwing words together for maximum evilness usually does sound silly and a lot of metal IS pretty silly to boot. Overexaggerated gestures and theatricality are just part of the culture really. But eh, different strokes or whatever.

I was aware of this band for over a year before a friend pointed out that "Ted" in this case was probably Ted Bundy, at which point the name became several iotas less retarded.

War metal names often seem to self-parodize to the point of just laughing at the band name as well as the insanely awful music, I,e Goatfago, Goatpenis, Blasphemophager, Sadomator. I always get a laugh everytime I'm on the NWN board and some awful European label, talks about their 00ber great hyperfast limited 7 inch on green splatter vinyl for a band that sucks.

Actually, "metal" in Spanish is written exactly like that; "metal". Metallica is a feminine adjective, and describes something which sounds metallic. Though yeah, to be grammatically correct in Spanish, it would need to have only one "l". As for it as a band name, well, I don't see what's wrong with it, really; it's memorable, sounds cool, and rolls off the tongue quite easily. Nope, no complaints there.

The idea behind it is cool. A name you can't say, but how are you supposed to look it up if you don't know that they also go by "nic"?

Please read through the threads before you post in the future. Repeating stuff as original content is lame, and we won't be arsed to read your stuff if you can't be arsed to read the posts by others.

yeah, some of you guys are just lacking in the right kind of spirit to appreciate a name like Darkthrone. Its' also just a great "word" to say...

I even like these sentence fragment bannames...Bring Me the HOrizon..I see nothing at all wrong with that, and it's too bad the trend became synonymous with bad music.

Slauter Xstroyes though I just don't like. Great band, but I can't get my head around a name like that. I don't even know how I'm supposed to say it.

Also, the tradition of naming your doom band "adjective noun" by combining the names of two Black Sabbath tunes is getting pretty old. As is being lazy and just referencing a single song. Though I guess The National Acrobats would be a pretty fun bandname. :P

Electro Quarterstaff. Sounds like some item you would take from a goblin's corpse in one of those fantasy RPGs. Orange Goblin on the other hand is an awesome name.

Oh, and any one those bands with names like: Hate, Evil, etc.
DSBM bands are terrible. Always some sort of 'oh, we're so lonely and sophisticated' shit like, Exhaled Life.

I would agree that the name definitely put me off the first time you started promoting the band. If you play speed metal and you're name makes me think hard rock, then it doesn't fit. Just saying that it could be better.
