I feel Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is undervalued a lot of the time.

Clerks is superbly overrated. It's basically 90 minutes of Dante just being completely unlikable while whining like a child, while Randall makes terrible jokes that never work. The scene when he lists off all the porn movies is unbearable. The only good things I've taken away from the film was the Russian heavy metal singer (which was a non sequitur skit with no bearing on the rest of the movie) and Salsa Shark (which was a one line, throwaway nonsense joke that for some reason struck me as hilarious). The rest is really telegraphed and just not very well done.

And then Clerks II, with somehow all of the core characters being portrayed by the same actors, was a fucking laugh riot. It's so clear that Kevin Smith wasn't really sure of himself when he made the first one and just cast a bunch of his friends, whereas with the second one they'd all been doing this for years and everybody was just much better at what they did.

And when it comes to Kevin Smith, JaSBSB is really good and all, but my vote for his most underrated goes to Mallrats. I'm not sure why that one gets as much shit as it does, it's basically how Clerks would have gone with better actors and more likable characters.

idk if any of you guys are down but Hatebreed is streaming their new album on their site. These guys get more vicious and metal-friendly with each album. Well worth a listen for any fan of heavy, brutal music. Now drop to the floor and do pushups until you vomit, pussy!

You don't have the music on an mp3 player that you could just upload to your new computer? I wrecked my laptop with all my music on it last week, and got all the music back on quite painlessly.

Get Spotify.

Edit
Yeah, sure there are ads, but it's a small price to pay and you're actually supporting the labels and bands. If the ads and 128kbps really bother you, $10 a month isn't much considering how much music you have access to.

Clerks II I saw before the first one. As funny as the first one is, I gotta go with the second one. There's more consistently hilarious stuff in the second one for me.

Ah, I love Kevin Smith's stuff. Barring Cop Out, as has been said. Can't believe no one's mentioned Mallrats yet, though - any love for that?

For me, a lot of the appeal of the first Clerks isn't the humor (though I did find a lot of it funny); it's the perfectly-encapsulated atmosphere of the early 90s, the dingy suburbia where it all takes place, and the "Life may be shitty, but shitty ain't so bad" message resonates with a lot of people (myself included).

But yes, Clerks 2 was much funnier.

There's a new Disma song that I can't link to right now but was linked to on their Facebook.

I first got to know of Disma when they played MDF last year. Killer band. Killer track.

Sounds awesome, even if the songwriting is a bit flat towards the end. Still definitely something to look forward to.

That isn't new, it was out before the full length, its the only song they've written that didn't end up on it.

Really? Huh, easy to assume it was new I guess as there's a recent post on fb about it coming out on a 7" EP. I might be late to the party, but speaking of new Disma, it also appears that there's a new LP in the works that I haven't seen mentioned here yet.

From their facebook:

Stopped watching Kevin Smith movies a few years ago. Dude can't make films where the characters have emotions towards one another that aren't absurdly cheesy or completely ridiculous and beyond being able for any sane person to connect with them. Aside from Clerks, so many of the films end up being like Capra with dick jokes and Star Wars/comic references. IMO the reason why he has a cult following is that he makes funny comedies with nerd references nerds (particularly teens) got and he had directionless loser main characters that lots of those same people could relate to.

I wasn't much of a fan of TDB but some of their songs are pretty interesting. Most of them put me into sleep tbqh. :-P Anyway, that's quite a blow for their fans.

I've a feeling that Ghost might also split after the upcoming album. Reason? Here.

Uh dude. An entire scene was devoted to a discussion about the politics of general labour and Return of the Jedi. Dogma is probably the only one that didn't have an astounding number of nerd trivia in it. Clerks had it's fair share of dick jokes too, even if they aren't as bad of taste as Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back.

You can see how much either means to me at this stage of my life. Point stands: Capra w/dick jokes and nerd references. Also inferior at being Capra compared to the original, and generally speaking I don't like Capra films much either. So. Yes.

The two Papa Emerituses are the same guy, just with a different costume. Listen to Secular Haze and you'll know instantly that that's still Tobias Forge.

picked up psychocandy by JAMC on CD, and future shock by Gillan on vinyl today for a paltry £5.50. All of my housemates are gone until Sunday and my brothers down for the weekend, so we're going to blast the fuck out of the hifi later on, gonna be good.

Bit of a shame if the whole movement starts to be characterized by quick-demised bands.

While one the subject of rock-with-a-metal-spirit, I submit to those it may concern that Ancient VVisdom are probably a band-to-watch... It's as if Electric Wizard did an mainly acoustic album;

It could just be part of the album promotion. Ghost has a thing for theatrics.

Whoops, sorry, site went down. That's not my pic, nor my tape. It's an image that popped up on both the Nuclear War Now forum and the SomethingAwful black metal thread in the music subforum. No idea as to its origins.

As I said, Ghost aren't going anywhere. Papa Emeritus I and Papa Emeritus II are both Tobias Forge, and the singing on Secular Haze proves that.
