awsome gig on friday in melbourne, couldn't get into Portal to much.

Went to Madhouse after the gig, rumour had it the band was going there, but they didn't turn up! Pretty decent place though, they had some killer tunes.

Was really happy with the mix of old and new Marduk.

Interesting Orkblut, I found Portal to be easily the highlight of the night, although I did skip out on Order of Orias. I though Marduk were a tad underwhelming to be honest, but still good enough.

well the auckland gig was pretty sweet, i arrived just in time to see exordium mors play [that's their cd in the top photo below]
their singer has the whole candlemass hood and hair thing going on ha ha wicked band though

actually as i walked into the venue i ended up talking to one of the dudes from marduk [i think the singer] at the ticket counter, he asked [the person behind the counter] what the time was and when they were playing/doing a sound check, dude didn't have a watch so i cheerily replied "it's five past ten" then i noticed his accent and he said something like "when is our time?" which i thought he meant what time is it in sweden ha ha [12 hours behind] so i said "it's about 10 am in sweden"

anyway they did their sound check at bang on 10:50pm then we had some eerie atmospheric stuff for about 10 mins then we got slayed
i don't know their music that well but they announced all the songs and even said which album they were from too, they even played a couple of 'slow' songs [i like the full-noise hellspeed stuff]
the singer knows how to get the crowd going/showing horns and stuff, awesome

oh and they did wear corpse paint, they did one encore song then he said at the end "and now... we drink..." classic
*one really cool thing i liked a lot was between songs they had gunfire and a 'war plane' engine sounds at full noise, sounds good to me man! i love that shit, like racing cars and aeroplane sounds etc :metal:
the gig wasn't crazy loud though, i almost removed my plugs, almost
i suppose tuesday night gigs are a bit quieter than weekends

i got a patch too [no cds, only patches and shirts on the merch table]
it was a good night, hail marduk! :hail:

seen at the gig:
singer chick from skuldom
guitarist from just one fix
singer bass player from dawn of azazel
the first singer from 8 foot sativa [i'm 90% sure]
and this dude with all white contact lenses, weird (oO.)

Saw them on the fly at the Melbourne show. I was coming straight from work and hadn't planned on going but walking past a line of long-haired freaks made me change my mind. Only problem was I was still in semi-corporate work attire lol. I quickly bought a band shirt to cover it up.

Portal were mesmerisingly hard to look away from but I thought the sound got lost in the intense volume. I do dig Orde Of Orias and I suspect this band's next album will be one to watch out for, whenever that is. Would have loved to hear Marduk play even just one song from Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered as it's one of my favourite BM albums of all time.

If you care, I've blogged about the Marduk gig here: http://alternativeandundergroundmusic.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/marduk-swedish-black-metal-hits.html along with a short crappy phone video of Portal (with obliterated audio).

Good gig but.
