Just saw this;
http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/quentin-clas ... 29568.html
and it made me think;

A Quentin Tarantino thread! Why the hell not!
Goody, or so I figure!
Outside of the main Movie thread, to discuss the man's work.

I loved Django Unchained and what I've always admired about Quentin is how he takes out time before he delivers another masterwork. His films never feel rushed or rehashed. There is an element of newness to everything and yet also a familiarity to it. It is a Tarantino work and you know it.

Discuss away...

Ohh man, I can't stress enough how big of a Tarantino fan I am :). His work is full of greatness. I remember the first time I saw Pulp Fiction, I was beyond amazed. The dialogue and everything was so well thought out. I can't say that I was a huge fan of Jackie Brown, but it was a pretty good movie. Needs more Buscemi.

As for Django, I haven't seen it yet but I plan on going next weekend. From what I heard and read it's a great film.

I loved his older movies more than the newer ones. As far as Django - I found it a bit too long and some characters acting was exaggerated, example Jackson (I dont know if that was the intention or not by Tarantino). I loved Django because its unique and there aint no movie of that kind out there - that I think was a brilliant idea.

For me Basterds was a little better than Django - although both movies are following the same kind of model of people who are oppressed and are not considered a threat are able to do some damage.

I liked Kill Bill Movies for its uniqueness once again - but its not a movie I quote or consider for myself as a classic for year to come as with Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs.

Quentin Tarantino is one of my personal GODS. I abso-fucking-lutely love that man and his films. No words I know of to express how much of a fan of his work I am. That guy is a TRUE genius.

I haven't seen Django Unchained yet, since it will be released until the 18th in here, but man, I am terribly fucking excited about that movie. The expectation is killing me. I need a few cigarettes to calm down. Preferably some Red Apples.

Jackie Brown is pretty cool. Robert Forster is way cool in that film. And Pam Grier is gorgeous, regardless of age.

Anyone else agrees that "The Man from Hollywood" is one of the funniest things ever filmed?

And yeah, Tarantino is awesome. I haven't seen a film by him that I didn't like to some degree (although Death Proof was a bit boring), though I'm yet to see Jackie Brown. And I can't wait to see Django Unchained either. Tarantino is a huge fan of Western films, so I'm extremely eager to see his take on the genre!

Django is fucking phenomenal. I loved Inglorious Basterds a bit more, however. Pulp Fiction is iconic and just raw as hell. Count me as another huge Tarantino fanboy.

I thought Django was great, but the end was ridiculously over the top. I guess that's what you get with Tarantino though.

I'm surprised only one guy has brought up Reservoir Dogs. Tarantino fans, definitely check it out! Good flick, the concept is a bit stale by now but the execution is fucking grand.

Love Tarantino and loved Django! Similar to Inglourious Basterds, though not the masterpiece that it and Pulp Fiction are. But good enough that I've seen it twice. I bet the KKK scene will go down as a classic scene.

Uhm, I am pretty much certain that by posting here it is implied that one must have seen Reservoir Dogs at least once. Or twice. Or enough times to know all the dialogs.

Not necessarily. I'm sure there are plenty of people looking into this thread who have only seen one or two Tarantino films, perhaps his later works (like Basterds or Django). Another nod towards Reservoir Dogs could never hurt.

Agree, Reservoir Dogs is one of Tarantino's best, and deserves all of the praise heaped upon it. Also, the conversation about Madonna's Like a Virgin =

I just love how they turn the song into a metaphor for big dicks (which makes a scary amount of sense, considering Mr. Brown's/Tarantino's explanation).

"The man from Hollywood" Segment from 'Four Rooms', directed by Tarantino himself, is an obscure bit of dark comedy. The whole film though is merely okay at best. Anybody else see that one?

Agreed. I think I might have remembered nearly shitting myself at the end of the movie. Way intense.

Personally, my favorite movie by Tarantino is Inglorious Basterds. Great build up in every scene, amazing acting, and probably one of my favorite endings to any movie.

I'm a pretty big fan of the Tarantino universe. It's pretty well-known that Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs are part of the same universe, but it's possible that more of Tarantino's movies are related. For example, Inglorious Basterds is a story about how Hitler's assassination went in the Tarantino universe, which is why everyone has a fascination with movies and desensitized to violence by the time the events of Pulp Fiction, True Romance, and Reservoir Dogs occur. Some other cool tidbits; Kill Bill is the season finale for Fox Force 5 and Sgt. Donny Donowitz is the father of Lee Donowitz from True Romance.

Haven't seen Django Unchained yet but I'm hoping to see how it would fit with the Tarantino universe.

Well, at least I'm not alone... I don't know about "worst", but I still think he's a terrible writer and self-important egomaniac.

I do not like QT. Not for his personality, or for his writing style.

I don't suppose I have anything else to add that anyone wants to hear, it's just hard to avoid the urge to express how lame I find everything about QT to be (well, everything about -him as an individual- and about 80% of his writing/directing, anyway) so I'll just leave it at that...

Good day.

Can't wait for DRD to post something because so far the Tarantino haters only managed to post asinine, zero substance things.

I'm kinda pissed Dicaprio is not nominated for his role in Django Unchained, he truly deserved it. Say what you want about QT, but he's an awesome actor director and big name actors are always shining in his movies.

Sorry, I know I said I didn't have anything to add, but reducing people's thoughts to "asanine" garbage because they have differing opinions is a little insulting. I mean, considering most posts are little more than people exclaiming "QT RULZZZ" and all.

I at least feel like I deserve a chance to explain my disliking if someone essentially calls me an idiot for having a different opinion. Esp. When it's coming from a moderator. So the above quote is exactly that. QT is all style and zero substance.

Good day.

Im pretty sure most of you know this, and I agree that Reservoir Dogs is an excellent film, but you do realize the plot and more was rather shamelessly taken right out of City of Fire. I wouldn't go as far as saying it deserves ALL the praise it gets for that specific reason. This goes a bit beyond his usual homages, i would say. On a related note, I really liked that he took the titles of Django and Basterds from older films and made something new with them.

I really can't understand how anyone can hate on QT.
I don't care much for his personality but I watched Reservoir Dogs for the first time last week and I was astonished at how brilliant it was. His style is what gets me the most, it is way outside the box. That and how he manages to get the most out of every character no matter how much screen time they have.

I had watched Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill before. The latter was ferociously entertaining although not quite as memorable as Pulp Fiction which is hands down the best thing Travolta will ever do.

Never said that you shouldn't explain yourself, that's what I want. Different opinions is not important here, this goes for the fanboys too who would post "Quentin rules" without any content, I would lock this and and refer to the Movie thread. I also never called you an idiot, maybe I should? And anyway, my zero substance comment was directed more towards John Sun than yourself.

Good morning.

I fall into the enough times to know all the dialog. Me and some friends used to get together every week and bullshit, eat dinner watch like 3-4 movies and usually the last one was always Reservoir Dogs. I've also watched Pulp Fiction enough times to know everything as well. Everything else he has done i've watched and enjoyed. I guess I would say my least favorite would be Jackie Brown. I've only seen that once. hell I liked Death Proof a bit more, but I'm also a fan of the type of film he was paying homage to and have watched quite a few of them so it captured it perfectly. anyway yea I need to get my ass to the theater and see Django, looks great.

I recognize Tarantino's talent and he's got a lot of it but I'm not a huge fan.

For one, I don't really like how everything he does is laced in irony. But worse than that, I don't like how is movies are permeated with his authorial tone. This gives every movie of his the same kind of feel.

It's like you're not watching Kill Bill or Pulp Fiction or Inglorious Basterds. You're just watching "Another Lecture by Tarantino".

To me, the best movies are great films where you're not even aware of the direction, writing and acting. You just forget about it and plunge deep into some world and story for 2 hours or so and forget it's a movie. That's when real movie magic happens. And it never happened to me watching one of his films. Closest was Reservoir Dogs.

They're still enjoyable and I watch all his work, though. It's usually good, although a little too silly. Can't say I'm a big fan.

Riffs you are right about the irony but I guess it's an integral part of postmodern films and that's basicly what Tarantino is doing. I appreciate Pulp Fiction a lot and enjoy most of his films to a degree but his style of film making doesn't resonate with me enough to call the guy one of my all-time favourites or something. He's good and talented director but I certainly understand why some are being underwhelmed by his movies.
