Well, since a thread hadn't been made for this challenge yet, I figured I'd do it. Our next challenge is grindcore, with an end date of February 14th. Looks like SLK is hosting this one. No themes have been applied yet, but the idea has been thrown around. Since it's grindcore, I believe we've settled on everyone submitting 5 songs, each being a minimum of 30 seconds or so. Let the songwriting begin!

I just sat down and wrote and recorded 3 songs tonight, and I have to say, grindcore is a lot of fun. No need for an entire song, 45 seconds is enough, hahaha. Personally, I'm doing goregrind. I'm really going to enjoy this challenge.

I'm not hugely familiar with grindcore, only passingly familiar, so I had to check out the wikipedia page for it. I tell you what, going off the wikipedia page can be an inspiration unto itself. Pitch shifted and distorted vocals? That's some fun shit.

Sounds interesting. I'm probably going to participate if someone wants to collab.

Isn't the point of having a host so one person condenses all the information and administrates it? At least that's what I thought it was ;)

I still support having random lyrical themes, genre hybrids, and various challenges randomly assigned, perhaps one of each for those who want to pick and choose.

yea I was just wainting to hear back from people to see if they were happy with what I suggested and was wondering if you were down Zodi to do the random album covers but I figured of grindcore only releases. Basically I didn't have all the information yet to work with starting the thread!!

Zodi, Pm or send me an email and I can help arrange some covers and i guess some suggestions for random themes... or acutally the themes can be recycled from the last one with random lyrical themes.

Not huge on genre hybrids. I was hoping people would stick more towards the tried and true forms. Though I've always wanted to a BM/grind hybrid called Chainsaw Abortion.. but that was a long time ago...plus 2 other bands have that name now. But I wanted to do it back in 03!

Question: Does Cybergrind/Noisegrind count? If so I am so in. Also what is the policy on making micro songs and the use of samples?

Bah, no need to get so technical, guys. This is all for fun, remember! Just write some damn grindcore! Violent_Possessor, go ahead with the cyber/noisegrind. As far as microsongs, I believe we set a minimum at 30 seconds. SLK, you have enough info! Everyone go write some damn grind (5 songs minimum), and send SLK the files!

Even anyone needs some drums I'm down to blast it out for you.

I'm deciding on what grind I'm going to do. and I want to do something that's not what I do in the other 5 grind projects I have going on... this might be a little tough.. lol.

I still can't promise anything. However I FUCKING LUV GRIND. I'm OK as long as deathgrind, DM/grind and BM/grind are allowed as well as grindcore.

Also, here's what I think works best:
- Each person can have a maximum of 5 songs.
- Minimum song length should be 30 seconds.
- Maximum song length should not exceed 3 minutes.

I agree totally. once you start going past 3 minutes you have pretty much lost it being more grind it starts being another genre with grind elements.

i might do something a bit different and do all of the songs on bass with no guitar. i'll have one track of distorted/fuzzy bass and another track of clean bass. just cause i don't currently have a guitar.

Are we still doing the random lyrical theme rule?
If not, I was planning on writing some lyrics, but I just wanted to clarify, so my efforts aren't in vain.

What random lyrical themes? THIS IS GRIND. 5 short tracks of highly unstable aggression and unchained primal barbarism to release organic social stress accumulation and annihilate the human echelon. Or at least that's what I think is going to happen.

Yeah, I don't think there should be a random lyrical theme. When is this starting by the way?

No lyrical themes have been assigned for this challenge. According to Wikipedia at least, grindcore originally started out with socio-politically charged lyrics, and went gorey with the advent of goregrind. Personally, I'm writing goregrind, and having a fucking blast. In fact, I just recorded what I believe is my best vocal performance ever! I initially messed around with some pitch shifting on the vocals, and it was fun, but sounded too cheesey, so I just worked on getting my growls lower. I've already written the required 5 songs, I'm probably going to be submitting like 20, haha. Definitely my favorite challenge so far.

Bass is so big sounding, you probably won't have to do that, unless the two bass guitars are playing completely seperate things. I would say try everything with a nice distorted bass, and maybe add some higher chords or something over it, also on a distorted bass. Just my two cents.
