A few recent pick-ups:

From Shadow Kingdom Records:
Arkham Witch - Legions of the Deep

This is basically The Lamp of Thoth mk.2 for any fans of Simon's original troupe. A few of the songs are a little speedier but honestly if you loved his old band you're probably going to love this. I've had it on almost non-stop play since ordering it last week.

From NWN!:
Slough Feg - The Slay Stack Grows
The Gates of Slumber - Suffer No Guilt
Misantropical Painforest - Firm Grip of the Roots

This distro is having a huge 25% off clearance sale until the end of the year. That means BRAND NEW CDs for 3.75 + shipping. You really can't pass up on this sort of thing, although his catalog is being picked bare. I didn't pull the trigger quick enough and missed out on the Faustcoven demo collection which bums me out. I'm excited about Slay Stack as I've always thought Slough Feg records sounded a little too clean. I'm hoping this will scratch my Slough Feg itch and sound positively rehearsal quality at the same time. Misantropical Painforest is a unique band with a really silly name. Looking forward to hearing their most recent album in full...expecting greatness.

From a used record store:
Xibalba - Ah Dzam Poop Ek

This is the Mayan Bathory! If you don't have this, get it.

Anything you recommend from that NWN sale? The only thing that caught my eye was Slough Feg, and I was skeptical since It's demos.

If you haven't heard Faustcoven before I'd at least suggest sampling a few tunes on youtube. They are doomy in the classically Sabbath sense, but the mastermind behind the music wraps it all up in a black metal atmosphere. INCREDIBLE riffing, with great basementality production values. I think he has both their most recent albums, one for 3.75 and the one through his own label for 7.50.

Hell, it's been years since I've had a discman. iPods are a lot more convenient these days but I loved mine when I had it.

that's actually my first one ever
i got it specifically to play sale bin cds at my local music shop, they won't play them on their gear, but yeah digital audio players [DAP] are far more convenient.
however, i also find that i can only handle wearing headphones for about an hour anyway so never bother taking music with me [for a walk, bus ride etc]

And yes, the Protectors are Russian pressings, so until the bands here reissue these albums where I don't have to rob a fucking bank to buy them, I'll take these instead.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no real copyright laws out there, so any asshat can press CD's that are out of print. I have no problems paying a small price for a CD that goes for hundreds of dollars. If bands like Sororicide refuse to reissue their stuff and allow it to go for literally thousands of bucks, I can get myself an inexpensive issue that, so far, fails to disappoint me. This is proof positive that these bands need to get control of the back catalog and put them back out, even in a limited pressing.

I don't hear any lack of low-end or anything that would indicate a shitty Mp3 press, though I'm sure there are some out there that are Mp3 sourced.

Those ones weren't licensed though, they are just counterfeits by azintex music and the bands or original record labels won't see a dime from them. There are some officially licensed russian cds though. I had some 2 on 1 russian counterfeits that say 24 bit digitally remastered on them that sound like crappy low quality mp3 files.

I'm more than happy to give them my dimes...just reissue the music and I'm there. I flatly refuse to pay collector's prices for a CD. That said, these are the only "fakes" in my 3000+ collection, so I'm fine with it until they somehow find a re-release down the road.

And I've seen those 2-on-1 too. Crap, man.
