Not Another Sabbath Thread! Actually, I did this because I haven't found any thread that suited me, and I feel that there must be some songs/bands like this.

I'm looking for any song, any band that either has (a)/(is):

Song in the vein of Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin (about down to the very sound of it)

Rush- Working Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h59mDlBSt7o

Pentagram- Forever My Queen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7JTD_73kpI

Strong blues chords and time signatures

Blue Cheer- Blue Steel Dudes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhZ8ne_tPR0

Uptempo/speed metal with few or no slowing of any part of the song, i.e. versus, choruses, or solos
Diamond Head- The Prince
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpavSXoAPC0

Heavy doom

Solitude Aeturnus- Black Castle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7h9-OZheqY

Psychedelia/stoner influences, but hard rock nonetheless

Orange Goblin- Saruman's Wish
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqctp5zY4WA

Very Traditional/Proto-Metal/ Early Metal Sound (Modern wise)

Witchcraft- Hey Doctor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCkLlbQon6c

Actually being proto-metal (1967-1975)
Bitter Creek- Plastic Thunder
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYqvyxK3 ... re=related

Pure, Unadulterated Hard Rock

I'm Gonna Get You- Blue Cheer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzEbCrxVbp4

AC/DC- Hell's Bells
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx9FRbeVcr0

Or, as of 1/17/13- ACID ROCK
Gandalf- Hang onto a Dream
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00jUY1QkCmkCached

In other words- blues, bluesy, or early straight; psychedelic blues, psychestoner blues, devoid-of-blues classic hard, Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath/Blue Cheer/Early Hard Rock love, hard-to-moderate rock or heavy metal. Raw rock and roll. In other-er words, this thread is just about stuck in 1973*. 'Classic Heavy Rock/Retro Metal thread' should be its real name.
*Just because I say this is stuck in 1973 doesn't mean it is and all recommendations have to be from that time (kudos if they are though). It could be some sort of proto-psyche hard rock piece from 1967 or some diddly you and your friends just did 3 hours ago.

This is definitely geared more towards the obscure, overlooked stuff, but do keep in mind to not be afraid to list 'popular' songs either. I don't even have a copy of Deep Purple's In Rock, believe it or not, so putting down 'Highway Star' isn't going to get you beaten to the asphalt with a bottle 'cross the 'ead...

Preferably I'd avoid growling/guttural vocals, but in the end I really don't mind. In other words- put preference on acts that don't feature death growls, but don't ignore them. Regular 'thrash' growling, (.e. Pantera) no problem with.
Cleaner, mid to higher end guitars (ala Thin Lizzy/Blue Oyster Cult) are recommended, but sludge is okay too (Kyuss, Electric Wizard, Acid King...) In other words, downtuned is fine, as is dirty guitars since blues tends to downtune. But put preference of straight over sludge and grunge rock. As aforementioned, because many of the greats of this sound are sludgy, don't ignore it either.

Also to be asked- if the band uses keys, synths, and other instruments of that sort, throw 'em in.
And, as the note above said, also looking for softer variants of acid rock as well. I always considered acid rock to be stoner rock's 'soft rock' father, so if it's necessarily heavy then it's technically stoner rock.

Will do right now.

Speaking of female vocalist doom, I can't forget to mention Acid King, but that would mostly go under the Sludge/Doom rec thread.

How about Flower Travellin' Band? Pretty standard psychedelic/stoned out doom from the same time as Sabbath was getting big. The vocals are a bit funky, but the riffs are psych-heavy doom all the way through.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71lBZz16dr4

The band Message had never released anything else in this vein (if I'm not mistaken), but this is a really heavy psych-rock release. Both are songs are riff heavy with that psych-rock vibe and is actually pretty fast for 1971. Recommended!

I know more, I just can't think of anything right now. Will reply again soon.

Aarni have a hell of a lot of Sabbath influence, but expect a good deal of weirdness (and not necessarily of the psychedelic nature).

Wolfmother's "10,000 Feet" is brilliantly a part of this.

Radio Moscow's whole discography.

Heavy, very much bluesy, and very much in the vein of Led Zeppelin/Blue Cheer.

Rival Sons- Memphis Sun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGRFWM1MAfM

Very blues-rock. Very-very. In fact, if you're into a strong Led Zeppelin/White Stripes kind of deal, this is probably your theme song.

Spacegoat- Silver Swamp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT6O3UmzRs0

Beautifully done Latin stoner metal. I can't call it like Sabbath, because, to my ears, it's more Blue Cheer and other like ultra-blues psychestoner '70s bands.

Thin Lizzy- Holy War
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8EirMSeT7s

Strong and clean guitars. Pure rock and roll in my opinion.

Rumplestiltskin- Make Me Make You
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJeYSG1k6EA

Very strong late '60s, early '70s hard blues rock deal. If you love Led Zeppelin, you will love this song.

Witchfinder General- Friends of Hell
(No link right now)

This is a Sabbath song. This is such a Sabbath song, it's surprising Black Sabbath didn't make it first. Purely sabbathian metal. Although it's from '83, it sounds, instrumentally, ten years older, and does it well. The sabbathian-riff breakdown-hook at 4:53 is as addicting as Skyrim.

Nirvana- Aero Zeppelin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdWG2JfZYzE

When I found it, this song took me by surprise. While it's low-fi, it's aided by several admittably great riffs and a nice, raw solo. Definitely different, more '70s hard rock, that the common connotations of grunge.

Head Machine- Scattering Seeds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNOGNzkOdMU

Everything from the Orgasm LP is a great late '60s classic. Oddly enough, no one knows who these guys are (I assume they were like what we'd today consider to be the average bland indie-alt modern rock band that releases a single that goes to #78 on the Billboard charts, then is never heard from again. Albeit with catchy blues rock.) This riff is stuck in my head. Recommended Carly Rae Jepsen killer.

Spiritu- Slump
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WV32MJ8Gaw

Stoner rock, also a bit of New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal, kind of like Kyuss meets old Soundgarden, with- surprise surprise- clean, un-growled vocals!

Acid Witch- The Black Witch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqUFoYGKkr0

Guttural vocals and sludgy guitars withstanding, it owns a strong Sabbath feel with two orgasmic solos. Very heavy, very mid-up tempo.

There are a lot of great recommendations here that you're going to want to spend time with. But there's one that has been a fixture in my life ever since I first picked it up, and I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet because I know there are a ton of fans around here.

You NEED to treat yourself to Captain Beyond's debut album. Check out Dancing Madly Backwards if you want a sample. Believe me though, the album hits like ten tons of fucking bricks if you listen to it front to back. It's not prog rock but there are some really tasteful choices in the way the songs blend into each other. Don't let that scare you though, there are some REALLY heavy (and yet still bluesy) riffs being bandied about.

John Spencer Blues Explosion- Damage.

Raw and sassy garagy blues rock like you can't fathom.

Someone above mentioned the Flower Travellin' Band.
This... completes this whole god-damn motherfucking thread.

Flower Travellin' Band- Black Sabbath. (1970)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rly03ajwejM
It can't get any better than this. Not unless Electric Wizard covers Iron Man.

EDIT: OH CRAP.
Ok. NOW this thread is complete.

Deep Jimi & The Zep Creams- Whales And Snow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCsA3QaP5To

Best. Band name. Ever. There is no need to think for too along about what this band sounds like.

The Petards- Big Boom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS7B9bDsXh0

1971 must've been a great year for heavy psyche rock.

Man I completely forgot I posted in this thread. Glad you guys dug Captain Beyond's debut. I hype it up a lot but I honestly think it surpasses the reputation. Really heavy riffs, killer shuffling grooves, and of course those old wizard pipes of Rod Evans (original Deep Purple vocalist don'tcha know!).

Very good.

Anyway, these definitely aren't heavy metal or even hard rock, but because they're so spaced out and psychedelic, I think they deserve some mention.
So if you're into acidic, chillax, psychestoner rock like how they did in the '60s (and do I mean it!), these are for you.

Electric Moon- Inferno
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z-jva9zhMUCached

Orange Alabaster Mushroom- Space and Time

Orange Alabaster Mushroom- Rainbow Man

And here's a very interesting piece. This is quite possibly the earliest proto-metal song ever recorded.

Bitter Creek- Plastic Thunder (1967)

Pallbearer are not really retro doom, they've got some sludge and drone elements in their sound. Either way they're awesome. Maligno's cool too.

Horisont, another great bluesy proto metallic delight from Sweden.

Fu Manchu

The Atomic Bitchwax, one of my favourites.

Skånska Mord, more bluesy treat from Sweden, oh yeah!

Get out of here! :) I heard about this band ages ago (possibly 2006-07) and after being enamored by this song at that time...they've been one of the good bands in my books. Unfortunately, I just have their Spit Blood EP. Yet to check out their full lengths. A definite recommendation for this thread though.

Hehe. :-D Yea, they're fuckin' rad. I've got the first full length and TAB 4. Both albums rule. I was pretty much surprised when I found out that TAB is blacklisted on MA. Their first two albums are pretty much into doom metal territory tbqh. Later stuffs are more spacey, psychedelia oriented.

I only remember The Atomic Bitchwax from their codeword "box riff."

If you like The Atomic Bitchwax then you should definitely check out Monster Magnet.

A band that doesn't get enough recognition around these parts and that are completely out of this fuckin' world (because they are in the perennial 70's world) are Graveyard:

Best modern day 70's rock band out there in my opinion.

I've been listening to a lot of this lately, I could write pages about it, but instead I'll just post what I've been listening to lately.

Doctor Downtrip, cool Belgian band:

After Shave, interesting Swiss band:

This really fascinates me, the Wire Machine, I think this band only put out one acetate test pressing with two songs. The production is not that great, but really heavy for 1969 (their other song is not like this though): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSMBcYWlnIg

I'm usually not into new bands playing this kind of stuff, but I have to make an exception for Cauchemar (from Canada, French lyrics), they really kick arse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=karKVY7c7XQ

Camarosmith, The Company Band, Sheavy, Fireball Ministry, Wo Fat, Five Horse Johnson, & Blind Dog for some Stoner Rock.
Toad, Black Widow, Poobah, Yesterday's Children, Warpig, Bloodrock, Sir Lord Baltimore, & Warhorse for that late 60's/Early 70's Psychedelic Rock & Acid Rock.
Rose Tattoo, Rhino Bucket, & especially Airbourne for anything AC/DC.
Maligno, Hour Of 13, Orchid, & Kings Destroy for tha Sabbath Doom sound.
Goatsnake & Solace for a Stoner Doom fusion, if you're interested.
Danko Jones & The Datsuns for more Hard Rock.

In The Colonnades. Swedish band, for this kind of music check out their releases, except the last one, which is more death 'n roll.

Salem Witchcraft- Rock and Roll Lover

Heavy psyche rock straight from the '70s. They even say they're inspired by Vanilla Fudge, and you can hear it.

Los Ovnis- Infinito

Surprisingly heavy acid rock from the mid-late '60s. You cannot convince me that this riff doesn't get lodged in your head. Very catchy, very heavy riff for its time. Oh, by the way, Mexican.

Some love for Sam Gopal!
A band featuring none other than Lemmy!

And in the recent bloom of psychedelic rock bands that gains strong influence from the 70s, I gotta point out the amazing Jess and the Ancient Ones!
