Hi everyone!
I'm currently working on putting together a blog about and for keyboardists in the metal genre. I'm thinking of featuring tutorials whenever possible, showcasing songs and artists (both undiscovered and popular), etc.

I'm a female keyboardist in a blackened death metal band from the PNW and my inspiration is that I want a place where I can post keyboard tutes for parts in my songs as well as other peoples' and share spectacular keyboard parts with the world. Any ideas/feedback?

Sounds like a great idea, a mix of tutorials and showcasing artists is great, especially if you get some artists to offer tips. Free educational material on music, especially metal, is always a great thing to have on the internet. Naming the chords might be helpful, as could linking a transcription - both could be good supplements in addition to naming the notes, just to make it a bit easier to understand if you want to put in some more work.

You should get something to mount your camera on, Joby's gorilla pods are great for this as you can attach them to nearly anything and they start around $12.

Thanks for the feedback Zodijackyl. I definitely do need to get some sort of mount. I was using my iPod to record but I can probably borrow a camera and tripod from friends. I'm working on finding a solid open source video editor as well so I can start throwing chords and diagrams into the videos. I'm thinking it would be great to highlight musicians from this forum too, if anybody would like to contribute some songs.

Yeah, not a bad idea. Keyboards can be overlooked within metal so a good blog would be a great resource for aspiring players if put together well. In addition to looking at playing techniques and tutorials I think also looking at different types of synthesizers and their varying applications would also be quite useful.

As for the vid- like Zodijackyl said, a camera mount would go a long way as would naming chords. Text and diagrams are nice (imovie would work fine if you use mac) but just talking about it would be sufficient, maybe mentioning that the first chord is just another way of playing Am. The more you know and all that. Biggest thing I'd suggest is bring all the parts together at the end so that the viewer can actually hear you play the piece in full, it would help cement the tutorial.

Excellent, Corpsefister. I'll definitely incorporate all these ideas into my next clip. I've just spent the better part of the evening making my first band spotlight video so I'm feeling comfortable enough with the software that I'll be able to add all the necessary informative text and graphics to my next tutorial.

That's a great idea, though I currently have nothing to post, but I'd watch everything posted there, I mainly play piano parts, synth solos and just program orchestration/pads parts for my project, in this manner I save a lot of time for other stuff like vocals, and never sound like a robot since I play stuff that requires actual playing (Piano for velocity sensitivity thing, solos for bending as well as vibrato and some other tiny stuff).
Anyway, I'll keep up with the blog, I might post something in near future though I haven't got a good camera, but I'll see.
