This may sound pretty vague, but I'm looking for Sludge/Grudge that has that has an angsty, early Nirvana feel. I know most of the big name Grunge/Sludge bands already, so more obscure bands would be appreciated.

little off topic, but you might appreciate Thou (a sludge/post-metal band) as they love Nirvana and have covered "Something in the Way." All their music can be downloaded from their site for free.

Wow, thanks man! I remember liking Thou a year or two back, but I guess they slipped under my radar. I wasn't aware of the Nirvana cover, I'll check it out.

Definitely do check out the sub-pop back catalogue.

Bands that have elements of sludge combined with elements of grunge / alterna-punk metal that i can recommend include :

skinyard (jack endino's orignal band)

my sister's machine (the first two albums are amazing)

green river (dirty sleazy thud rock...check out re-hab doll)

tad (definite masters of grungy sludgy rock)

melvins (dont know where to start as they ahve a huge discog, but their late 80's output is highly recommended - sludge supreme !)

caustic resin (crazy band)

also check out stuff from 90's amphetamine reptile back catalogue

stuff like :

god bullies
hammerhead
early Helmet
killdozer
lubricated goat
jesus lizard
tar

the 90's was fertile ground for such music

The criminally underrated Slug were an early 90s noise-rock band with a sludgey/grungey vibe. I can't find their best song (in my opinion) "Hambone City", but here's a bunch of others:
