I'm sorry to create a thread for such a minor request, but I'm obsessed with a song that I can't remember its name, at all, everything I remember is the intro (about 3 secs) which starts kind of like "Time Capsule" by Arch Enemy, acoustic guitar (I think) closely followed by a sad electric guitar which ranges from a deep sound to a high one, then a deep sound again. The vibe of the song is really melancholic and nostalgic.

Also, I think, it was an acoustic track, of a more "extreme" metal band, (not Heavy Metal, nor Power Metal)

I know my description is really vague, so I hope you just throw songs and hopefully one of them could be the one I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

have you tried any of those Pandora type programs that recommend songs based on a song or a band you like? d'you think seeing the song title would remind you at all, or would you only know it when you hear it?

can you use any recording or synth equipment to upload how the melody sounds from your memory in case maybe someone recognizes it once they hear your recreation of it?

can you narrow it down any further?...

- was it a long or a short song? was it consistent or progressive (did the melody you remember remain throughout, or was that only a small part of it)
- was it an intro/outro/interlude or a normal song somewhere on the album?
- how long ago did you hear it? (how many years worth of albums can we rule out)
- was it a band you knew of, or something random you heard on youtube/etc.? (is there a list of possible bands)
- is there anyone is definitely isn't? (e.g., maybe you know Arch Enemy, Insomnium, Opeth, etc. so well that it's definitely not any of their songs)
- do you listen only to songs in certain languages or from certain countries? (can we rule out every single Russian band, for example, or can we narrow it down to Scandinavia or bands influenced by Arch Enemy or anything else you're familiar with/fond of?)
- was it instrumental?
- were there any other instruments? (piano, symphonic backing, etc.)
- how was the production? raw Black Metal? bold Death Metal? is the bass audible or negligible? any clean vocals at all, or only extreme metal vocals?

these sound like "Time Capsule" to me. Ulver was generally Extreme metal, though this album is all acoustic, so it's definitely not the song you describe...but who cares :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_jIgaUkROI
this is just nice acoustic+electric. ...so that my post isn't a total waste :D

- I don't remember, but I think it was a short, instrumental song.
- Interlude, I think.
- It wasn't that old, I mean, for the quality of the sound
- I band I knew of.
- It was from a band that sings in English
- Yes, instrumental, a 80% sure.
- I remember a soft acoustic guitar intro and then, immediately (0:05' perhaps) the electric guitar kicking in.
- Clean production.

Nope, I'm afraid.

I remember the guitar solo was really simple.

If you ask me, the song kind of had a uplifting, epic, yet at the same time, sad, melancholic vibe, at least the part I remember.

Not this one I'm afraid.

Also, the electric guitar part started with a sliding type of playing, sort of slow, and as I said earlier, it goes kind of deep-high-deep

Could it be something from Shadows Fall? I know you said Extreme metal, but that Arch Enemy song really reminds me of them.

like I suggested earlier, your best hope may be to just get a DAW* and reproduce how it sounds, because 'deep high' doesn't mean a hell of a lot, whereas if you play the song, people might know it instantly. -- I did this once before for a song I couldn't get out of my head but couldn't remember (I didn't play the melody perfectly, but it was close enough for someone to recognise it was HammerFall's Hero's Return :) )

*FL Studio 10 comes with a nice acoustic and electric guitar synth, but almost anything would do.

Do you have a last.fm account? If yes, then just backtrack and see what you listened to over the past few months or so...

I'm going to try this later today, thanks.

And I don't have a Lastfm account, my bad.

Winamp does that, too, but only if you've set up its 'library' feature.

not playlist, library.
"Alt+L", but it would only be there if you'd already set the library up (hasn't worked on my new computer, but I used to find it useful on the old one) ... it would be a total record of everything ever played since setting it up, and you could sort it by genre or song length or plays, to narrow it down to ones it might be.

Failing any of those ideas, finding a song that sounds like it might jig someones memory.

A couple of suggestions from the mid 90s. They're probably not it, but are they in the right area?

Hybernoid -- "Skin"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rda28c4edg

God Forsaken -- "Waiting For The Unknown"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLT_-SGQp7w

EDIT:
It would probably help us a bit if you gave some idea of your listening tastes. Do you listen to lots of super-obscure underground bands, or more well-known acts?

It wasn't simply another Arch Enemy song, was it? There's a similar track towards the end of Wages of Sin...

It's none of the above, unfortunately.

I don't listen to:

Industrial
Gothic metal/rock
Most female fronted bands

The song I'm trying to remember sounds like what you'd expect from Agalloch or Alcest, more or less.

Like Alcest or Agalloch?

Let's try some stuff:

... - Ascending To The Night Sky

Agalloch - The Watcher's Monolith

Agalloch - She Painted Fire Across The Skyline Part 2

Silence of the Old Man - Ausencia

Dalla Nebbia - Dimmed Through the Smoke

Maybe Soge II: Framkomsten by Windir? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-QblKcVHrY

I think what you are talking about, when you say high to low, is simply a type of arpeggio right?

Not really, it sounded like when you strike the chord on a deep note, move your finger to a higher note (always on the same chord), and then move back to the previous note.

And it wasn't any of the above (I liked a couple, tho)

Although these don't have electric guitar:

Intestine Baalism - A Keen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQc4Qlfv0_E
Burn Thou in Effigy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUbAj-3ocz4

Beautiful pieces that you might enjoy even if they're not what you're trying to find.

Aftershock - Letters possibly? Though no electric guitar in there
Aftershock - Displacing Inertial is probably a more likely candidate. This has electric guitar used for atmospheric effect.
