Looking for melodic black/extreme metal of any type with autumn and/or depressive atmosphere. I definitely am coming at this sound from a black metal standpoint, I find I like autumnal-themed bm the most, but there are also great bands that are more death metal oriented as well. I love any sort of pagan/folk/viking/neo-folk overlap, lots of keyboards are cool (though it's not a necessity), and I'm a total sucker for melody, so the more melodic, the better by me. Here's a list of bands outlining what I'm already aware of... I really enjoy this style so willing to give anything a chance, even if you think it's a stretch!

Agalloch
Dornenreich
Drudkh
Empyrium
Fall of the Leafe
Falloch
Falls of Rauros
Forest Stream
In the Woods...
October Falls
Opeth (early)
Primordial
Rapture
SIG:AR:TYR
Slumber
Summoning
Swallow the Sun
The Morningside
Ulver
Vinterland
Wilds Forlorn
Windwalker
Winterfylleth
Wodensthrone
Woods of Ypres (early)
Дружина

Well it's pretty easy to see what you are missing there buddy:

Skagos
Not a huge fan of this band personally, but they do what they do well.

Also, I'll throw in:

Evilfeast

Aryan Art
NS band, not sure if that bothers you. If you love melody though, this is the band for you.

Lunar Aurora

The Ruins of Beverast
Essential.

Wolves in the Throne Room
Since you mentioned Ulver.

Definitely seconding Skagos and WITTR. You should also enjoy Dammerfarben quite a bit, I'm just about to order their latest from Northern Strike :-D

And perhaps Obsequiae? Medieval Dark metal that sounds extremely unique.

+1 for WITTR and Dammerfarben.

You also might enjoy Ablaze in Hatred, a Finnish Death/Doom act since you've got Swallow the Sun on that list.

Dark Procession's Eternal Autumn Solitude. The name says it all. Black metal with a lot of acoustic parts.

I would definitely second Skagos and I would also recommend Alda, especially their most recent full length, Tahoma.

That list is definitely missing these bands:

Lustre:

Walknut:

Forteresse (early):

and, in a slightly different vein, early The 3rd and the Mortal:

I would like to second, third and fourth this band! :nods: Truly great stuff; bleak yet strangely comforting listening to it when you look out of the window into a grey autumn landscape.

This is one of my favourite tracks for some moody, absent-minded staring out of the window.
