"Heavy rock". It grinds my gears when somebody says that. I just don't like it when people differentiate between hard rock and "heavy rock" when they essentially are the same thing; in my opinion if there is no difference between the two I would simply refer it to as hard rock.

I don't believe this is a genre that actually exists.

I was under the impression that "heavy rock" is what the Japanese call hard rock. Maybe I've just been taking my Boris too literally.

Maybe the japanese call it heavy rock the same way my mother's friends used to call Odal heavy rock.

I heard "heavy rock" is used to refer to hard rock, but it confuses me why some people don't just call it hard rock. I've had someone misinterpret my tastes in music for "heavy rock", and a lot of people I know like to call it "heavy rock". I doubt it has relevance as to what the Japanese call it, though, seeing as a lot of people that aren't Japanese use the term too (I'm British).
