Been on a tech-death kick and looking for some more modern sounding bands. Really digging the "sterile" triggered drums sound. Would like some recs for tech death that has some memorable and groovy riffs (i.e. no braindrill) or even some breakdowns. Bonus points or outer space/ alien themed lyrics

Bands I have in mind:
Rings of Saturn
Abiotic
Fallujah
Kamikabe
Rivers of Nihil
Arsis

I know some of the bigger names out there, so no need to rec Origin or Decrepit Birth.

Thanks!

Hm, modern, technical and groovy? You might like the Ukrainian band Hedonistic Exility: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M07mczWGzaw

Obscura
Necrophagist
The Faceless
Beyond Creation
Arkaik
Animals as Leaders
The Contortionist
Gorod
Periphery
Wretched
Spawn of Possession

Some of those may be pretty obvious and you might know a few of them but just in case.

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for, great shit, shame they only have an E.P. out.

Ascariasis was pretty good, could do a bit of work on the production, but pretty cool sounding

Substructure- not really my thing, but it was a pretty cool listen, its nice to hear that style done properly. I'm def not a fan of born of osiris/viel of maya/contortionist/btbam/periphery.

Ill give Thy Art is Murder another chance, I listen to their demo a few years ago, don't really remember it being that tech, I'll give them a shot, I've been hearing their name mentioned alot recently.

Thanks for the recs ! keep em coming!

Make sure you check out the Infinite Death EP http://open.spotify.com/album/1ptRtamoP80mvc6HiHh1PR
I don't remember the Adversary very well, but their latest is more straightforward deathcore without the tech stuff.

Also, The Boy Will Drown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f38h-oSERw
Terrorhorse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDKyy06jRvY
Odious Mortem (a personal favorite) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdx1oLZurkc

Rivers of Nihil

I just came into this thread to recommend them. Glad to see that word is getting around about these guys. Good friends of mine, saw them live many times. Though it may be difficult to find, I recommend Amongst Decay. Sometimes called Amongst The Decay. Many of the same guys as Rivers of Nihil, but this band was less technical and more slammy - think Suffocation and Devourment. They would often end their set with the song Baby Killer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV0R6RhJULc

Abacinate from New Jersey might be up your alley. Though they aren't as technical as Rivers of Nihil or Rings of Saturn, they have chugging deathcore elements at times and plenty of blasts and complexity.

The Tenth Circle was a Pennsylvania band whose drummer Joe joined Braindrill for a brief period of time. No deathcore in this, but it's decidedly modern and has some groove elements.

Thy art is Murder is very different than they used to be, they seem to differ quite a bit from each album so depending on the album you might enjoy them

http://www.triplejunearthed.com/ADeadSilence

this band maybe, they are more deathcore though but i think they have tech death elements

and this is quite tech death metalish pity they broke up

New Desecravity SLAYS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRZ81MK5IlM
Easily the best Tech/Brutal Death Metal album of 2012.

Plague Widow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AceI1jDGMq8
Now this one might be pushing it a little bit. Would actually be considered Blackend Deathgrind(I suppose). But it has that drum sound you were looking for, is very Technical and is brutal as fuck. Mitochondrion meets Circle of Dead Children.

Baring Teeth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VJMwanN6jg
Great band, dumb name.

Odious Mortem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdx1oLZurkc
Not sure if these guys count as "well known" but they destroy regardless. IMO, way better than many of their contemporaries(I'm looking as you, Severed Savior)

Inherit Disease: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu8HRyl8Pw8
Dumb Brutal Tech Death for people who like that sort of thing. Great band.

Woah, this is pretty gnarly stuff, sounds like converge and death metal mixed together.

I just thought of Internal Suffering, quite technical and insanely fast.

Sentenced to Dissection and Monumental Torment (both from russia) come to mind
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubu3HpPNCuY - Astral Projection-Sentenced to Dissection
might be worth checking out Upheaval as well. Alotta these bands are just starting out and only have one EP or a full length out but truly some of the best death metal being churned out today.

Bump. Anything new on this front at all? Looking for longer E.P.'s and full lengths. Been digging The Zenith Passage lately but entirely too short, same goes with the newest Fallujah E.P.

They don't have a full-length's worth of material out, but X-Box Murder sounds like it would fit what you're looking for perfectly:

Just checked out Xbox Murder and its pretty sweet, hear a black metal influence if there, which is different. Hate the band name tho.
