Seconding this. Actually, just check out the whole album while you're at it.

It's been on my wish list for a couple of weeks. It's seems to be available only as MP3. A couple others on my wish list are only available or much cheaper as MP3, so I'll download them after I go through all the CD's.

Thanks

A few more bands on the death metal side came to mind with heavy guitar tones.

I don't know how you feel about Morbid Angel, but Ingurgitating Oblivion is definitely inspired by their heavier moments. Pretty riffy without being chaotic or wanky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWVpVe9qzZE

These guys, Dyscarnate, are very much within the Dying Fetus/Misery Index mold, with a similar huge fat tone. Hooks galore.

Lastly, Man Must Die. These guys are fairly brutal, but I think you may enjoy them.

The trouble with these guys is the rhythm guitar and drums never seem to sync up. However, while I was listening, a band named Bloodshot Dawn popped up on YouTube's side menu. It was melodic death/thrash and it was really good. I usually don't like melodic death because to me 'melodic', while having its place, equates to wimpy. But this was different. It was like Goldilocks ... just the right amount of melody, death, thrash, groove and crunch. Their musical prowess puts it over the top. These guys can really play. I already downloaded it. So in a roundabout way you came through again. :nods:

This is definitely in the Misery Index mold. At first it started off like there was going to be an overuse of blast beats, but they really settle into a bone-crushing groove on every song. Very heavy stuff. I'm buying both albums.

Wow. I don't know what to say about this one. It has the two things I dislike most in death metal - overuse of blast beats and too much tremolo picking ... but it works! And I know why. Unlike most death metal, the tremolo picking settles into a repeating pattern that creates a groove. It doesn't go into 10 disparate patterns in 30 seconds. And if the drums are blast beating these guys know to settle into a mid-tempo rhythm guitar pattern, even if it's with tremolo picking. And vice-versa, if the rhythm guitar is racing away at a fast pace the drums slow down to mid-pace. You can always latch onto a piece of the music. They are really unique in that aspect.

The second link, well ... that's just a truly heavy piece. A song like that can make a whole album worthwhile.

You've come through again sir. Thank you very much.

Undergang - Dodshymne (old school groovy Swedish death with a magic bag of riffs) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xpyj8j9Xa4

Winterwolf - Phantoms of Madness (more d-beat laden death-thrash featuring Demilich's Antti Boman) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_r4EUeP ... re=related

Short Bus Pile Up - Ball Peen Beating (hilarious slam band that throws out some mosh worthy grooves and a thick sound to boot) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeOGeqEfZN0

Stone - Get Stoned (old speed/thrash from Finland to break your neck to) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWHlr3U_s8Q

Grave - Deformed (buzzsaw Swedish death metal with some d-beat influence) ... don't care for the buzzsaw guitar tone.

Lair of the Minataur - Juggernaut of Metal (ridiculously heavy thrash/doom) ... it is heavy. I'm going to have to listen to this one a little more. From my sampling each album sounds quite a bit different.

Undergang - Dodshymne (old school groovy Swedish death with a magic bag of riffs) ... heavy, but I don't care for the Cookie Monster vocals. Guitar tone is a little more raspy than I prefer.

Winterwolf - Phantoms of Madness (more d-beat laden death-thrash featuring Demilich's Antti Boman) ... again heavy, but I don't like this style of guitar tone. I like a more "defined", for lack of a better term, tone.

Short Bus Pile Up - Ball Peen Beating (hilarious slam band that throws out some mosh worthy grooves and a thick sound to boot) ... I like the music, but hate how the snare is recorded. Reminds me of that awful snare on Metallica's St. Anger. Not that fond of the vocal style either. Shame, because it is heavy.

Stone - Get Stoned (old speed/thrash from Finland to break your neck to) ... No

Thanks for the recs.

I figured I was going out on a limb with most of those recs, but if you like Lair of the Minotaur then you should check out Horn of the Rhino:http: Mass Burial Punishment //www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d25kGxcuf0

Manly doom with thick riffs. This site has them labeled as Sludge/Thrash/Death Metal, but whatev'.

Now that I'm pretty much finished the buying spree and had a good chance to listen to all of it, I thought I'd wrap up this thread by listing the best of the bunch for anyone who may have similar tastes, were giving recommendations, or were just following along.

In the end I found some great stuff, but nothing that supplants my current "heaviest" band -
Cataract http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRkwPAeS8Mw
or my "heaviest" song -
Cannibal Corpse's Evisceration Plague http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgnEU77kcA8.

Death Metal
Dawn Of Demise - Hate Takes Its Form (my favorite of this search)

Dawn Of Demise - Rejoice In Vengeance

Melodic Death Metal
Bloodshot Dawn - Bloodshot Dawn (not really a fan of Melodic Death, but this is good)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQKsxYHUtJU

Metalcore
The Agony Scene - The Darkest Red
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m46evbwe-KU

Hardcore
Born From Pain - Sands Of Time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N9JO2r0zF8

Born From Pain - Reclaiming The Crown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHNKs1GVgAQ

Thrash
Korzus - Discipline Of Hate

Suicidal Angels - Bloodbath

Doom
Hooded Menace - Never Cross The Dead

Thanks to everyone who offered recommendations. It was much appreciated.
