I think Temple and Aqua are by far their best two, with the ones in between being the 'meh' ones. I do agree that Matos era stuff is quite overrated though; the only album I enjoy from beginning to end is Holy Land, but it's still not as good as the later output of the band.

Angra is terribly boring imo.

The Missing Link is their best album.

Also 'Holy Land' and 'Fireworks' are better than anything Angra post Matos ever did.

I agree with the Matos era being my favorite but I just love that band to be honest. From a musicianship standpoint they are just so versatile it's pretty astounding, and I dig the songs too. I wasn't as fond of Rebirth, but still some great stuff on it.

The Matos stuff would be pretty good if it had a better singer on it...a less annoying one.

This exactly. Matos is way too high pitched and squealy for my liking.

Personally I really like his voice (I just recently got a combo cd of Angels Cry & Holy Land.) but then again I like vocal extremes. I thought both albums were pretty amazing though.

Also just found out today that Myopia put there last album "Silvers for the Never" up on there website for free download. Still listening to it but so far its good and the production is much better then "Nyght" which was still a really good album.

The Missing Link is their best album.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

While I really like The Missing Link, I find it getting a lot less playtime than some of the newer album. I always felt like The Missing Link and Trapped! were extremely similar. I do have to say that I absolutely love "Firestorm", being the first Rage song I ever heard!

Finally gave Unity a listen today. First half is great, but aside from the title track, the second half falls flat.

The only other full Rage I've heard is Speak of the Dead. Great album from start to finish.

My least favorite part about Unity is the line "Finders keepers, losers weepers". It's so cliche that I cringe every time I hear it.

The missing link is certainly up there as the best thing Rage did. Great album. I never sing the praise of Rage but they really are a band with some great material.

Like I've said before, Rage's main problem is that their albums have way too many fillers. They could have easily released 10-song albums, all of them killers.

Here's a new Rocka Rollas song, with new vocalist Joe Liszt (D-Train/Sick Cell/Hellhound)!!
It's the title track from an EP that will be released soon, followed by a new album in 2013.
Shows a good glimpse of the new musical direction I'm taking the project, less straight-in-your-face speed metal and more epic and melodic.

Exactly and the only good album by Rage to me is the missing link, some of Rage's other albums would be good if they cut out the filler.

Sounds pretty promising, Rocka. Liszt reminds me of Persuader's singer a bit. I have to admit I love the balls to the wall speed metal you've done, but sounds like there's still a large number of riffs and still that nice Running Wild influence in the leads and shit. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

Haha... The exact same take is actually in the beginning of another song too, because I did another take but after a while I thought it sounded like shit... Anyway, cool you noticed it! :)

First time listening to Rocka Rollas, and yeah, that sounds sweet. Great riffing and melodies, strong vocals, and solid songwriting. I'll definitely listen to the EP when it comes out!

I'm digging it Rocka, but the drums feel a tad stale. Like they are doing just enough get by with out raising the level of music in it's own right.

Well, actually I intented them to be quite stale, because I really like Jörg Michaels drumming style, listening to his work in Running Wild is a real joy for me, with almost robotic vibe to it... Of course my drumming on this album was quite sloppy, during to a long hiatus of not being able to practise drums, but I have got my skills back a bit since then, so any future recordings will be much tighter.
But it's not terrible, otherwise I wouldn't have accepted the songs at all.

A big thumbs up for me, leaves me wanting more. As I have said to you before Rockas your take on the RW stuff is the best I have heard and bringing it into Rollas is a win win.

Amazing stuff Rocka Rollas.
Would like to have the bass a bit more audible in the mix though.

I'd like the drums to be more Iain Finlay-esque! :P

Not impossible, hehe. I find it easier to play dynamic and "wild" rather then robotic and stale, but I like the latter a bit more to be honest...

If only more modern Europower followed in the footsteps of Lost Horizon and Manticora.

On Rocka Rolla's "Bloodbath"
I love those vocals...I mean I FUCKING LOVE THEM! The guitar solo is simply amazing but generally the guitar work is solid. I think the bass is actually solid for a Power metal song. I would only like the drumming a bit more UP!

Nahsil wrote:

Oh my lords, whatever happened to Lost Horizon? AFTTGB was a strong record but how many years has it been since then...
Manticora on the other hand, can't really stand them! Give me Morgana LeFay instead for my thrashy dose and Wuthering Heights for my prog dose. Manticora tends to fall in between but is more concerned with big ideas yet too little memorable riffing. Just methinks.

I could have sworn the new Satan's Host was supposed to be released today. Anybody know to when it was pushed back?

Ahh, they certainly have that vibe. Of course it is funny you bring that up because the only issue I've really had with RW was the drumming. But no, they're certainly not terrible.

Alright someone help me, I'm having a memory lapse. What's the name of that demo or maybe EP-only USPM band who had their stuff reissued under a compilation? I'm thinking there may have been a sword in their logo (but I'm not sure of that) and I think the cover was mostly white. I know someone posted them in the Mini-Review thread and I've been combing it but without much luck. I think maybe it was Abominatrix who posted them.

edit: Found it http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/En ... alm/191337

I'm thinking this might be an issue with their label, Moribund Cult Records. The site doesn't seem to have been updated at all lately, and there's no mention of a new Satan's Host record at all. Even if it got pushed back, there should've been some mention of an upcoming release, a postponement, something. Maybe the label is going defunct?

Something about the vocals sort of bug me. They seem a bit... unenthusiastic? Seems alright otherwise. Maybe it will grow on me in time, but I'd be lying if I didn't feel slightly disappointed based on initial listen.

It's just a demo. Howie says they're rerecording it for the album.
