iAm: Lot of rain, hu? We have the same here, every day and night. Looks like we will get a few days without it now, then I can go for more and longer walks!
Cool place you live in, looks very dry and desolate.

since everyone has different monitor sizes it'd be handy if "too big" was clearly defined somewhere...
or maybe enable the thumbnail feature that this board possibly has

Forestshadow's pics are within the limit, I'd say, and could be used as a guideline. They fit within a 1280 resolution, and that's already pretty primitive. :D

These are from the central mountainous region of Idaho, near the geographic center of the state. The scenery here is more like what you see in Forestcorpse's photos, rugged mountains and forests, but of course I can't quite equal what he has over there. Still some pretty nifty stuff in this area. This is Borah Peak, which at 12660 feet (3850 meters) high is the tallest in the state. Yes I have climbed it, but that was over 10 years ago.

Image

Nature's canvas: Banded rhyolite! This is the natural, untouched rock surface. Pic taken about 15 miles south of Challis, Idaho.
Image

The Burning Fields (I guess fall has come to our mountains too.) Iron Creek, northeast of Stanley, Idaho.
Image

The Picket Fence, Sawtooth Mountains
Image

Overlooking Stanley, Idaho and the headwaters of the upper Salmon River.
Image

This lake is situated at a high pass in the Sawtooth range and is at around 8450 feet above sea level- right at the upper edge of the treeline. It's west of Stanley and at the end of a 5.2 mile uphill slog, but well worth it for the view- there wasn't one single human around when I took this picture.

Beautiful pics. I like the "Picket Fence" one the most, those are some very rugged mountains.

the area is officially known as the Sawtooth Mountains- for good reason; a lot of them do look like that. It is rugged but spectacular country.

I've camped out there before! Beautiful countryside.

So it's raining up in the mountains again. Tomorrow I'm driving out to Trona just to see if it's safe enough to go wandering out there so we'll find out tomorrow if I can head up into the hills.

These were all taken last weekend at Dudley Beach about fifteen minutes from home. The sculptures made by wind, sand and water are sometimes quite impressive, as is the inter-tidal zone awash with rock pools and such.

Thanks! Yeah I know huh?

Going to be in New Zealand in the first two weeks of December (starting west coast, then driving across the mountains to Dunedin), so hopefully I'll get some cool shots there too.

Yeah, south island only, the missus has family in Dunedin, so we're starting north near Greymouth I believe, then heading south along the west coast before crossing the mountains and go east. I want to try some fishing, especially for trout in the rivers, and the coast if I can, but transporting the two or three rods and so on I'll want to bring will be pricey (and drive the other half mad ).

I'm not really sure, but I think it may be Oudemansiella mucida, especially if that is on a beech tree.

It's not a forest fire, I was on a coal train while taking that particular photo. I thought the smoke looked unique though so that's why I picked that one.

I went down to Florida this summer because I was thinking about relocating there but once summer was over, I was ready to leave because I didn't want to miss fall in Virginia. It's the most beautiful time of year. These are from vacation I took last week to the mountains but I'm looking forward to watching the trees change outside my window in a few weeks.

Trollskogen?

I SUPPOSE it's a generic name for a forest in Norway, isn't it?
