You'll probably be disappointed in thinking that. Really if you haven't enjoyed anything in this long in their output I can't see how this would be much more different.

Decibel....lol I don't know a single person who takes that mag seriously.

I'm kinda surprised that this is kinda short notice as far as releases go. Usually everyone knows months upon months before it's actually released.

I like to remain optimistic. I enjoy grind and you never know when something will click.

my local music shop has 3 or 4 agoraphobic nosebleed cds at the moment [one is a split though]
i already have that cool mini cd, pig destroyer are playing with brutal truth and nasum in tokyo soon, that would be a sweet gig! :headbang:
that show is right after the auckland show

Here's to hoping there is more grind on this album than there is Pig Destroyer.

completely forgot about Pixie being one of their great doom/slower songs. I guess cause usually when I listen to 38 counts I skip it along with the covers cause I want to just blast the grind out normally.

Yeah, cause how many other magazines actually do things like hosting concerts featuring a band like Pig Destroyer? It's funny how things are in the metal world. I've had fights with people on the Decibel forum about their attacks about Metal Archives. Just goes to show...My basic point was a few people said Phantom Limb stinks. That's a pretty severe condemnation of a grind album many people like. I used the Decibel album of the year as an example to counterpoint, not to say their judgement is final.

Let's drop the magazine talk, but it is a serious metal mag. It's one of the few metal magazines in the country, and many people take it seriously, especially people who don't have the outlook metal-archivers do.

Decibel is a great mag. I was unaware of any beef between them and the archives, considering Morrigan contributed to their last issue.

I ain't judgin' nobody

Anyways, this album needs riffs. The last one was severely lacking. If you're not going to shred my face off with the grind, at least pack a punch with some meaty riffs. Some more like that middle part of The Machete Twins will suffice.

as far as modern grind goes i dont think you get much better than pig destroyer, other than agoraphobic nosebleed hulls other project. Phantom limb isnt there best work but in my opinion it is far from a crappy record. i am not much in to grind any more but i will be buying this when it comes out and it probably will end up ranking on my end of year list. it is not wise to count pxdx out even if your not a huge grind fan.

It's not so much that they are not a good band, it's that PxDX is not really a grind band.

Phantom Limb was actually my favorite thing that they did...

That confession aside, really psyched. Might be seeing them at Damnation this year, though apparently they might clash with Electric Wizard which would be the worst thing to happen since the publication of Atlas Shrugged.

I've only actually heard a few songs off of Phantom Limb and I thought that it was average as hell. Not particularly good, but not horrid either

Pig Destroyer isn't particularly a grindcore band, obviously. You have heard their music, correct? Anyways, read through the Grindcore Help Thread in the recommendation forum, plenty of awesome ghryndkhore mentioned in there.

Prowler In The Yard is their best, but I like everything they've done, including Phantom Limb[i]. I'm sure [i]Book Burner will be good. Still curious about the level of involvement Blake Harrison has on the album.

phantom limb was kind of a letdown in my opinion. there were some good riffs, but what really fucked it up for me overall was how toned down the vocals got. compared to all of their other stuff i couldn't get over how weak i thought they sounded. i still think pig destroyer rules, but i hope the vocals on book burner will hearken back to their prior ferocity (though that's probably why he had to stop singing like that in the first place).

my personal favorite stuff they ever put out was probably explosions in ward six and the rest of the stuff on 38 counts of battery. prowler in the yard is an amazing album, but i think all their older stuff has a different sort of ferocity that i end up liking more. i remember the first time i heard the ending part of the song treblinka...holy FUCK.

Has anyone listened to the 30 sec samples of the songs on the new album on ITUNES? I'm not going to judge the entire album based on those snippets, but I am really not digging the constant double bass on all the songs. It's one of the reasons I got worried about Brian Harvey's departure from the band.

i just got terrifyer [with the natasha audio dvd, which will not play in my pc ffs] the other day, not too sure what i think of it so far, it doesn't seem as fast as other pig destroyer i've heard, probably just needs a few more blasts, and i'll rip the natasha dvd and burn a cd so i can play it on my cd player.

anyway, just saw this on blabbermouth today

call me naive but... do pig destroyer or agoraphobic nosebleed use drum machines? some of the AN stuff is ridiculously fast.
maybe they write stuff with a drummer and have a drummer live but use a machine in the studio?

i actually played some O.L.D yesterday :p

Yes, ANb has always used a drum machine and don't play live. Pig Destroyer has a live drummer.

ANb have played live a couple of times, though IIRC its usually a 'bonus' sort of thing at festivals where PxD will cut their set short and let Hull cut loose with his solo stuff.

38 Counts is, but Prowler is definitely not a straight grindcore album.

Not going to listen to this album. I had Phantom Limb for a short time.

Not a super good album. Kinda blows dix. Not really interested in whatever else they got.

It's more or less a hybrid of grindcore/thrash/death with a few slower, sludgy moments. I'd say it's a "unique extreme metal album", and a good one at that.
