Yeah, you're better off buying based on hardware over a brand-name. You can end up getting a decent computer for a much, much lower price than dropping $3000 on an Alienware laptop or something ridiculous like that.

Quite frankly, I'm not fond of laptops. Hardware wise they're difficult(and expensive) to repair. I've turned down many a client who have brought me a laptop to fix.

I'd rather have a desktop as well, but being a poor university student I don't really have a choice :(

I got a deal on mine; despite it being a bit ricey for my tastes. Oh well; it was on sale for about $500 and has essentially the same hardware I would have built myself.

The beautiful day outside of this coffee shop I've confined myself to is mocking me! Go away sunlight and clear skies :annoyed:

You work at a coffee shop I presume? I landed a job at one, start next week, along with my tutoring and freelance work, I'll be raking in a pretty penny.

Yes, I work part time at a coffee shop. This is my last week sadly. I'm being cut along with the other workers, because the shop was bought. I will have to find new work to support my music collecting habbits.

I couldn't work at a coffee shop at all... I'll be tantalizing myself thanks to this caffeine addiction of mine...

I hate when people think I'm interested in their life story at my work. I just want to get through with my day. People don't realize how apathetic I am. My job can be slow, but when people start to talk to me about their lives it gets reaaaaaaaaally slowwwwwwww.

I'm king of the hipsters. They all process wearing tight fitting pea-coats and vests, along with long form riding boots and bracelets, to an altar made out of Man Ray portraits, David Lynch movies, and glasses. Upon arriving they lit a fire with America Spirits and sacrifice rare vinyls and ukuleles. It pleases me.

I've worked around sweets for years. I'm still thin as ever. I think the caffeine in coffee is basically harmless. It used to make me feel sick but I've built up a tolerance.

This is what I'm realising. I can buy through the university/work as it turns out, so whilst there are only certain models on offer, I can effectively customise them to a great degree...or at least that's what they told me this afternoon. I'd probably rather have a desktop, since a laptop that's any good seems to weigh as much as a desktop, but I do need to be able to drop into a small bag and travel around too...decisions...

If you want a laptop, you should forget about new games with awesome graphics and just buy one for around 400 bucks. I can play Portal 2 on mine so that should give you an idea what's possible. Make sure to get one with a proper graphics card because these integrated intel graphic solutions that use the CPU or something suck balls.

Aside from that the best tip is to research everything and then research it again to make sure you don't buy products with terrible flaws. It's a pain in the ass and I hate it, but it's worth it.

I picked this laptop up for $800 last month:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=4935

So far I've been very impressed - reliable, fast, nice monitor and it's capable of running most games on medium-high settings. I guess it's a little bit on the pricy side but I sold my 3-year-old desktop for $300 to afford it, mostly because I wanted something portable since I'll primarily be using it for music production.

Most of my computer-savant friends have said Asus is a very reliable brand, and they have laptops as cheap as $400.

You're a 16-year-old, who's into retro-thrash? Want to look like an all-knowing music connoisseur in front of everyone? You want to impress your buddies? You'd like to get beat up by old school metalheads as a result?

Say this outloud: "Killers and Iron Maiden's debut album need some more Bruce Dickinson and less Paul DiAnno"

I've seen this work. TWICE.

Since Morbid Angel dropped off the bill, due to not being able to make it across the border, Ticketmaster decided to make all pre-paid tickets null and worthless. I find out that I need to pay $20 to get inside since my ticket is no longer any good. The doorman told me I had to get a refund from the point of purchase... and they decided to announce all this last minute, on the day of the show. They didn't even bother offering to honour my ticket and let me in anyway. From the most sincere depths of my being, Intertia Entertainment, please get fucked in the hardest way possible. That was the last time I'll ever support your already notoriously shitty company with its backwards and underhanded business practices/ethics.

Holy shit, that is lousy. With any luck you enjoyed the show anyway.

I couldn't get in, dude. I wasn't going to pay an additional $20 on top of the $35 I already paid for the ticket. When the doorman told me this, I just left. What a fucking waste of an evening that was. Others living in the Toronto area will know about how shitty it is to deal with Inertia and their stupid bullshit.

The closest we have to the hipster types around here are theater nerds who listen to The Black Keys, so it figures I'd be out of the loop.

I really hope that tumblr abomination called "Seapunk" or whatever it is isn't the new thing...

You know, it's not easy to offend me. But today (or yesterday, technically.....), during my English class, this really annoying kid I know tells the following joke; "What's the difference between a Jew and a pizza? The fact that pizzas don't scream when put them in the oven!" The worst part of it all though? All of the little fucks around him laughed :nono:

Maybe I'm just bitchy (or it's my Jewish blood from my mother's side of the family), but that seriously reeked of absurd levels of ignorance and stupidity.

The difference between pizza and the Jews? Pizza doesn't control the banks!

Nah man, it's a stupid thing to say, but us Jews have been the butt of jokes forever. One could get up in arms about it, but one also has to accept that most people say these things just to get others riled up. Fuck 'em, but no need to harbor anything else.

Surprise, I've gota crazy Jewish heritage (one look at the picture thread should make this semi-obvious, what with my nose and all :p )
