MalignantThrone and Ribos, it's not so much the absence of guitars as it is the absence of guitar riffs. That forms a fundamental element of metal as defined by the site: the focus on metal riffs as the characteristic tying metal together. When you don't have that then the music is not metal, it is something else entirely.

Yeah, but as I said earlier, the band ain't metal in songwriting either. Much as I love 'em, these songs provide a solid indicator that they're more rock than metal. And again, they've toured with Pinback and Dredg. At least the Botanist guy associated himself with the black metal scene. Yes, Judgement Day has some tangentially metal songs, but these really do represent a minority of their overall discography.

Here's some explicit song links to make y'all happy:

And, yeah, sure, they've had more metallic moments, but whether they can really be called "metal" is up to you guys, as is whether there's enough of them to warrant the band's inclusion:

I love Chimp Spanner, amazing band and Paul Oritz is an awesome guitar player, but I have to be unbiased here. The music seems to have a heavily djent-based sound similar to Animals as Leaders.

I'm assuming this band was accepted under the side-project rule? Their songs are pretty much straight-up rock to me.

Uhh, considering that they were submitted by a user who quite clearly knows the rules around here, and the fact that they never would have been accepted in the first place with the genre "Rock/Hard Rock" unless they were a side project, it'd probably be safe to say that yes, they're only here because of the connections to Gorgoroth and Enslaved.

Yes, most likely approved as a side-project of Aeternus and Enslaved members. Obviously a non-metal exception. Notice the genre tag.

Anyway, an FYI. Since the SP rule has gotten a bit out of hand in the past, we are currently in the (slow) process of compiling a list of SPs and general exceptions and reviewing them again, so there is some clean-up to be expected for this kind of entry.

I saw that Born of Osiris were removed from the archives recently. Would moderators say Veil of Maya is safe FROM removal, or are they another Sumerian records band ready to be nuked? Personally I believe they always had tracks like "Resistance", "The Higler" or "Namaste", or recently from their newest release "Enter My Dreams" and similar METAL songs to make up for their hardcore/djent-leanings. But yeah I still would like to ask if they are metal enough, or about to be nuked.

Well, actually, he's kinda either asking if the Veil of Maya really should be here, or if he can trust that they will stay here, so it is a question that belongs in this, rather than the rejected/deleted thread. It's not a question on Born of Osiris, I think.

And no, I don't want to say anything about Veil of Maya either. That would entail listening to them, you see.

It belongs in neither. He is not actively inquiring about a band that should or shouldn't be here in his opinion. He's just bringing up one that is listed and saying "I think they are fine, but will they stay?". Too vague. That's the crux. It's a bit like asking whether a band would get approved in this thread's pendant before submitting them to the queue.

There are worse places to post this, sure, but it's technically not the scope of this thread. Then again, I'm cranky today.

Sorry that I post it here but should Plasmatics and Wendy O. Williams have different band entries? Releases from 1978 to 1982 plus later compilations should be Plasmatics discography, and releases from "Wendy and Lemmy" (1982) to 1988 and 1999 compilation should be Wendy O. Williams discography I think.

Deleted Bruce Campbell. Have no idea how they made it into the site... they're crusty grindcore through-and-through. Was honestly surprised when I saw their name in a user's report history...

Please check out Fatal Nation. Their only demo sounds more like hardcore with thrash influences; although some parts are close to thrash, I'm not sure are they metal enough for the site. Exactly no death metal here (genre field says Thrash/Death):

01 - Sentence
02 - Dark Room
03 - Decision
04 - Die for Your Lies
05 - Fatal Wish
06 - Insufficiency of the Hate
07 - Lord of Another World
08 - Unanswered
09 - Never Surrender
10 - White Coal

If I remember correctly, the Reservations at Dorsia split was physically released.

EDIT: Hmm, but the additional notes say that release was digital-only...Anyways, I'm familiar with the band, and I'm 95% sure they released at least one split which is/was available for physical purchase. It might be the one mentioned in the additional notes.

Are there pictures? It was my poorly planned and executed joke project and I know I didn't release Reservations at Dorsia physically. A CD split with Amputation Spree, Period Blood Opus 5, was offered on createspace (an on-demand amazon service) for a while but it's no longer available and no copies exist.

What do you mean, "no copies exist"? Do you mean "no copies exist anymore" or no copies EVER existed...?

Because a band's releases don't need to still be in print for the band to remain on the 'Archives. We're not deleting an odd +500 bands whose tapes were produced in small runs during the 80s and early 90s simply because they're no longer stocked. :S

Nothing physical ever existed for Mild Mannered Misogyny. If there were no internet there'd be no mention of the project. The tapes from those 80s and 90s bands would still exist.

From what I gathered here, the CDr was manufactured on demand when/if purchased. Assuming nobody ordered a physical copy, Phillip must've taken the webstore offline before somebody requested a physical copy. Ergo, no physical copies were produced.

Am I to believe that's correct, guitartheist?

Alhadis, do you know if Amputation Spree has any other physical releases? I cannot find any and, if I recall correctly, was submitted based on this split.

I'm not familiar with them, but considering that band was added eight years ago by an administrator of the site, I'm pretty sure they're here under the side-project rule.

Somebody else will probably be able to explain their presence on the site better than I can, however.

I know this may seem somwhat offtopic or maybe it's been brought up before, but lately I've been surfing bands and updating their profiles for fun, and some bands are just empty

And I mean empty as in no line-ups, no releases, no anything. The only thing that "proofs" they existed is a comment on the beginning saying "demo x released in x year" but no tracklist or anything. Should I report something like this or leave it as it is? Maybe the answer is obvious, but I just want to make sure.

edit: also, I've tried looking for these bands on the net, but it's nearly impossible if not impossible to find some of them.

Bands like that were usually added years ago and the existence of the bands/demos was substantiated by reviews in zines, availability from old distros/labels, and traded tapes. Often, there is just very little information available on a band - that doesn't mean they should be removed though, as moderators still had to approve them to be on the site. You can leave them as-is.
