Pretty self explanatory, choose your favorite! The famous UK thrashers versus the extravagant jap black/thrash unit!ù
Despite Sabbat and Walkyier's influence, I'm afraid I'll have to vote for Sabbat, who's the best Japanese and Asian band in my opinion, encompassing everything I like about metal, lots of class, fun and CHARISMA! 2 legends, 1 name, 1 vote!

I've always found Walkyier's razor-sharp vocals and lyrical wit, as well as the UK version's riffs, to be preferable to the Japanese Sabbat's (admittedly lovable and enthusiastic) Satanic camp value. Not that camp value is a bad thing in metal, quite the opposite, but the UK one just nails it for me.

Quoting my FFA post like a lazy bastard:

"I'd definitely go with the UK one. History of a Time to Come and Dreamweaver are thrash classics of the highest order, and Martin Walkyier was like no other behind the mike. Incredible lyricism, too."

I don't even know the UK sabbat. So considering I've known the Japanese one for a while, i'll choose them.

As much as I enjoy the UK version of Sabbat, I'd have to say they serve only as a stepping stone to Skyclad, for me. The Japanese version of Sabbat epitomizes everything great about metal and spawned a shit ton of great bands emulating them (Abigail, Barbados, etc). Swords, loin clothes... they're like the black thrash version of Manowar, only better, and with songs about Satan.

My vote goes for Sabbat from Japan.

Ever heard of Andy Sneap? That's Sabbat's main guy.

Japanese Sabbat: no studio albums that suck (with a lot more to choose from).
UK Sabbat: Mourning Has Broken.

My choice was clear, even if I love the first two records and the demos/White Dwarf magazine flexi- from UK Sabbat. My opinion would have been different if this were 1990, or even the late 90s, but Sabbat UK hasn't done a damn thing of value since 1989, and for most of that time, Sabbat Japan has excelled. But let's be glad we've had both.

I dunno, not fond of the debut with its annoying echo-y vocals.

Sabbat from Japan, of course! Very creative band with numerous unique albums. Temis Osmond's guitar work, especially on later stuff, is some of my favorite in metal. Easily one of my top bands, they always hit the spot for me.

This poll lacks a "both bands equally" choice, btw.

I love both bands but The British Sabbat's songwriting is what wins out for me, mainly due to a lot of lackluster pointless output from Sabbat (Jpn). The Japanese Sabbat however, is far from being a slouch Karmagassacre kicked my ass when I first heard it.

Nah, choose or die! It's a competition. Choosing "both bands equally" is too easy. The 3rd category could fit this request though

Also, Gezol is a fucking hairdresser, what's cooler than this?!

Guys, PM me some subjects, we could do a poll each week.

UK Sabbat, no doubt. I only like one Japanese Sabbat album (and even then, I'm not crazy about it), while I see both Dreamweaver and History of a Time to Come as unbelievable thrash classics. Original, powerful, heavy as hell, and sporting the venomous barks of the one and only Martin Walkyier, who also happens to be one of the best lyricist in all of metal (bonus points for that). Yeah, it's a no brainer for me.

I actually had never heard of Japanese Sabbat until a week or so ago, so UK Sabbat just kinda wins by default for me.

Seriously. Also, people who aren't familiar with one of the bands already shouldn't vote in my opinion. You can't say which is better if you haven't actually heard one of the bands.

I could probably name about 3000 things that is cooler than that but I'm not going to.

As far as the thread goes I enjoy both bands but have to go with the UK one.

Are we going to be able to do polls, or is this just moderator magic? I can see that ending badly since versus threads aren't normally encouraged. I can also envisage the clowns who'd make "How much does deathcore suck" polls already.

I loved the raw punkish sound of the Japanese band on the early 7" releases. They also seemed more unique and distinctive in their approach as time went on. Never got in to the UK Sabbat as much.

Nope, only mods can, probably for the reasons you said. I'm thinking of doing one each week. So y'all can send me ideas in PMs, Subrick gave me one already.

No question; Sabbat U.K. The first two albums (well, and the flexi-disc "Blood for the Blood God"... proud owner here) are classics in a way that few other metal bands can hope to achieve. And if the word 'word-smith' is to be used for any lyricist in metal, it's for Martin.

Uk Sabbat for me.guys. "Dreamweaver" is one of the best and epic thrash albums out there. I have said this before that the lyrics and vocal delivery on this release are amazing, he went all out on this one plus the concept behind the album gets an extra point from me, a stunning piece of work. As for Sabbat JPN I never got round to checking out alot of their albums due to the amount of releases they have though I always wondered what release would be considered as a fan favourite as I would like to look into them more.

While I love the fire and vitriol of the Japanese Sabbat, I've got to go with the UK Sabbat. Completely interesting lyrics, catchy riffs, and more involved song structures render them the better band for me.

I'd love to see something like immolation vs incantation, haha.
But UK Sabbat for me, I go way further back with them.

It seems I was the tiebreaker. Go UK!

I'm fairly new to the trio from Japan, having only heard Karmagmassacre and Sabbatrinity, but I think they're gonna get my vote at the moment. It might just be that I listened to them more closely recently an it'll be Sabbat UK next week... but the UK band don't quite kick your ass like they do. Need another tiebreaker! ^^

It was a tough choice for me. I like them both, but I do like the Japanese band's full-lengths better. What made the choice tough was that unfortunately the Japanese band does not only have those excellent full-lengths, they have a whole gigantic discography of pointless shit as well, which drags them down a bit overall. Still, I voted for the Japanese band, because as good as History of a Time to Come is, it's no The Dwelling.

STORMM wrote:

Like I just said above, The Dwelling. Absolute masterpiece.

Voted for the Japanese one. Not only do I like their music more, they have more of it available.

And yeah, The Dwelling is in a class of its own when it comes to the discographies of both bands.

Japanese Sabbat!
FUCKING RELENTLESS band! It is incredible the rate at which they put out material. And even if it doesn't go fully noticed, it is always pretty decent stuff.

Sabbat UK? It will be ages before the next album, EP or anything!

The Japanese Sabbat is better because they put out a lot more releases? That's kind of weird reasoning...

It's not that weird if you think that they not only put out more releases, but that said records are also quality works.

immolation vs incantation would make for a great poll! Not sure who would come out on top with that. I went for UK Sabbat as its the only one i am familiar with and i quite enjoy Dreamweaver, very unique record.

UK Sabbat
Quality rules over Quantity. I love Japanese Sabbat's early Venom-influenced works but they couldn't keep me interested for long. UK Sabbat on the other hand has very interesting material that I keep coming back to multiple times.

I am not voting as I do not like polls, but in this instance I would go for the UK Sabbat. Some people have mentioned Mourning Has Broken, fair enough, but have you ever heard any of the Japanese Sabbat's numerous live albums? I sure have as I own a couple of them, they're fucking horrid.
