I know a small amount of you guys are familiar with this masterpiece from 2005. If not Melancolia are/were a one man project from Canada who came and went with the blink of an eye. Eric Saumier was the guy behind this gem and Melancolia's one and only release which took him a whopping 7 YEARS to write and create. The album was even released on Eric's own label, Winterart which I believe also never put out another release and we will probably never know what happened as he showed so much potential.

Now here is the crunch! After a HUGE amount of effort put in by MA's Blood_Music I can confirm that 50 original copies of the cd have been obtained complete with sticker and still in the original packaging and will be going on sale next week. Trust me after years of searching for a copy on every site you can think of on an ongoing basis my jaw nearly hit the floor when this wonderful news came through, I had all but gave up hope so as you can probably tell I am very excited for this one and I am sure others will be the same when read this.

As for the music it is very hard to pigeon hole this release as he uses many styles and genres. The back bone of the music is black metal though the guitars are more down tuned and use a lot of different time signatures as opposed to the norm , it would most certainly appeal to a death metal audience liekwise with a progressive edge. The whole lot is wrapped with a wonderful use of synths which really add to the atmosphere but do not overpower or distract from the music. This has been one of my favourite release of the past decade and I highly release giving the album a spin and let it sink in, it is quite unique to say the least and if like me you have always wanted a copy don't hold back for too long as 50 copies will not last long I would think!

Thanks for the heads up! I never heard of this band, but the couple songs I heard on youtube sound promising. I'll have to listen to the songs a couple more times to decide if I want to pick up the CD next week, but chances are I probably will. :-)

No prob Evoken, glad you like. I find the album is best listened to from start to finish in a single listen but do give the songs a chance to sink in and click. It actually took me a few listens at the start as there was so much going on but when it did sink in I was sold!

I'd happily buy a copy of the album as soon as it is on sale.

Keep an eye on the Blood Music webstore Syntek will be on it anytime now. Check their facebook page for a look at the package, most likely the first time that box has been open in 7 years!

Hey guys, thanks! I saw STORMM post about this album on another thread here and checked the music out and thought it was incredible.

I got in contact with the musician (no one else has been able to get him to respond for years) and convinced him over the course of 6 months to send me some CDs to sell. These are officially-pressed original copies that have been sitting untouched for 7 years.

We will have 50 copies only and many of them are already "claimed."

They will go live for order on Thursday (Sept 27th).

So there's not actually 50 copies for sale to the public, if many are claimed? I'll be jumping on this quickly then :)

I received 50 copies of them -- I took 1, STORMM also got first choice because he introduced me to the band :)

Then, we have about 50 supporting members who've donated money to the label who get first pick of everything. I've sold about 10 to them today :o

Ha, that's good marketing. I've just donated for future benefits, and also because I admire non-profits and your mission statement. Anyways, I hope copies don't go too fast, it's a killer album for sure.

Would like to get a copy, assuming you aren't jacking the price up; but it sounds like getting one could be a hassle.

Thanks a ton for the support man! Got the order!

Price is 11.99 EUR or 14.99 USD

I spent 6 months trying to pry these out of the guy's hands, tons and tons of work, so I think it's a fair price!

There will still be some left on Thursday, I'm sure of it. But they could go fast then.

I'll figure out a specific time to put them live and post it here so people know when to check.

Out of curiosity, how much of a fight did you have trying to contact him/persuading him to let you distribute the CDs? :D

Let's just say it was very, very hard and took 6 months and conversation in several different languages ...

Nice guy though, don't get me wrong!

This is quite true. Blood_Music very kindly kept me up to date with what was going on over this time and fair play to him for sticking at it as the work has truely paid off!

15 bucks is fair. I was thinking more like 30 bucks or something. Some labels pull that shit when they get a hold of rare stuff.

I'll take a look next week anyway and see if I can snag one.

Cool, thanks for introducing me to this band. I'll have to look into this.

Edit: Now when you say thursday, do you mean exactly midnight or some random time during the day?

Hey now, I hadn't gotten a time yet, but why not? Thursday at midnight (in Finland), which would be:

11PM (Wednesday) in central Europe.
10PM (Wednesday) in UK
5PM (Wednesday) in NYC
2PM (Wednesday) in California
7AM (Thursday) in Australia

Find your relevant time zone, and I would say to definitely be there at the buzzer. I think these will sell out quickly.

Pretty cool! Hope the guys above have good fortune and bag themselves a copy. I forgot to ask you Blood_Music does the booklet conrain the lyrics? Also noticed that Eric had posted a link on an older post on your facebook, I wonder is he interested to see how this sells? I would love to know how many copies were made and sold in 2005.

Lyrics - yes
Credits - yes
Thanks - yes

Yes, I think he is very interested to see. But he is working on a new project.

Copies were made? Don't know ... I could ask later, if he is happy about all this :)

Thanks for that. It will be interesting to see what this new project will be like, I wonder will he continue the style he used with Melancolia or try something very different?

From what I understood, it's more like a dark goth feel, but I don't know if that means there are metal elements or not? Sounded more brooding than this one. No other info as far as I know!

I can't access the http://www.blood-music.com website. That's unfortunate. It just endlessly loads the page for me with blank screen.

I am using chrome. However I will download firefox to see if it works on the browser.

Edit(2): It gives me the same endless loading treatment in firefox as well.

I tried restarting my computer but still no luck. I will check my other computer in my house.

Edit(3):Success! I can access the website through the computer in my attic. I will definitely be watching out for the moment this thing goes on sale.
