I believe what FM means by beatdown sections are those slow, sludgy parts. Think of Crossed Out.

Please explain in detail... is that just another word for "breakdowns", because it sounds exactly like something some bro-y, hcbroz4lyfbro-type "PV" band like the WN of today would be playing, and I can't really help you with any recommendations if that's the case.

I mean, am I really supposed to even know what that means? I've literally never heard "beatdown section" used to describe any aspect of any genre of music... Sounds incredibly silly, TBH. :|

I feel like you're looking more for something like Emmure more than any PV band based solely on how goofy that term sounds, and you REALLY seem to want those. I mean, you listed it THREE TIMES!

The bands he mentioned doesn't sound like gorillacore at all

No, I know. I was commenting specifically on his use of the term "beatdown section", which sounds fucking dumb.
(no offense, but it does... terribly so!)

did we need another embarrassing term for describing characteristics of music though, really?
blastbeat sounds stupid to me too, FWIW...

The term is nigh-on two decades old. You lost that fight long ago.

What fight?

I was merely trying to explain how I am not trolling this guy for using retarded terms like "beatdown section"... I was trying to be polite. As if I actually give a shit about the term "blastbeat" just because it sounds stupid (and it does).

It's not like I'm legitimately complaining about that... But, again, I merely wanted to illustrate that I am not trying to pick on the poster or tease him too much, despite how retarded terms like "beatdown sections" strikes me as being.

lol."THE FIGHT!" I lost it... ;___;

'Beatdown' is a pretty common term in my area, might be a regional thing.

I grew up in Reno. There's a fucking CNN documentary about the "hardcore" scene there and how it's a bunch of bro douchebags who walk around with hockey masks on and baseball bats. The term "beatdown"comes from militant straight edge types. Not breakdowns or other rhythmic patterns, it came especially from the New York youth crew scene, as well as Reno, Sacramento, Fresno and a few other random bands from nowhere.

You found me out. I'm from NYC, raised on Suffocation, I can't escape beatdowns; it's in my blood.

I'd put Boston ahead of those western cities in terms of "beatdown notoriety". It was pretty bad up there for a while, or at least the string of shows I went and saw the last time I was up there.

Hey what's post hardcore? As in, what is it musically? I don't want any links to bands or websites, I'd just like you to explain it the way you would to a person in real life.

In that situation, most people do start namedropping bands.

Because if someone has no idea at all of the genre, then they're unlikely to have a musical vocabulary that overlaps with how anyone familiar with the genre will describe it.

well said. it's like explaining music theory to someone who doesn't know jack about it, you can't go too far into detail as they lack the basic understanding of the topic itself.

Got to see this band live awesome dudes and sick band. That record is sick. I have the Isolation EP and it rules. Y'all should listen to No Fucker if you don't know them.

Not similar to BB but 50/50 is all about skating.

Maybe give ANS a shot as well, they have some songs about skating and are along those lines.

JFA should be a little obvious, if you don't mind it lacking the thrashier parts.

Also, Annihilation time. The album "II" in particular is a total ripper. Couple songs about skating but just a nasty jam over all.

Great band. Hung out with the singer. Such a cool dude.

Friend showed me this band. Probably posted on here but posting again if so. First band with blast beats?

I think this band might be something you dig, checked them out on a whim a while back expecting it to be god awful but the first 4 songs are pretty cool, definitely dark, the last 2 are dog shit imo haha. that band planks reminded me of them at parts, harmonies n such.

If someone could be so kind as to direct me to any crust/hardcore-y bands that have a very "Filth Hounds of Hades" feel going on, and maybe if their vocalist sounds a bit like he's having the shittiest day of his life that'd awesome too, slow bands need not apply.

So you're looking for something with the vocals of Deviated Instinct and the music of Tank? I'm not sure if that exists.

Not exactly like Tank but that same groovy swagger they got, Skitsystem sounds a bit like what I want every now and then, I'v been wracking my brain trying to think of any other band that feel something like what I want, the only other one that comes close (instrumentally) is Abigail on "Intercourse and Lust" (Only one I got from them so far), well them and Gore Beyond Necropsy but still I want something more related to crust or Hardcore.

I don't see the Mutilation Rites comparison really. Not too big a fan of that band.
Big fan of Perth Express, first piece of vinyl I ever bought actually. Don't care for Tombs and who doens't know HHIG?

Titan's okay, but I should give them more attention.

Seeing that we're in a similar predicament, you should check out Resurectionists from Germany
http://resurrectionists.bandcamp.com/

as well as Le Kraken

Sounds like they hired every crusty UK singer from the 80's and had them all yell in unison.

Throwers weren't bad either, too bad no download link.

It's also worth mentioning here that Mohoram Atta's the shit. More d-beaty and HHIG sounding, they're simply amazing. Drummer now plays in Fell Voices and 14,000 other bands. you know the band's good when they cite Cursed, Envy, and "fucking Darkthrone."

If you're just looking for D-Beat type Discharge/Motorhead/Anti-Cimex worship hardcore there's tons of stuff like that. If you like Skitsystem, you'd probably dig Fleshrevels and Valvontakomissio (sp?)...the latter put out the very best '90s d-beat hardcore record I've ever heard. Wolfpack (pre-Wolfbrigade) first 2 LPs are also mandatory. Disfear (pre-metal) also did some great stuff. Doom - easily one of my favorite d-beat bands, even the later stuff after all the lineup changes like the "rush hour" LP smokes.

Then you get into the more "structured" aspects of the 80s Finnish HC scene with bands like Rattus, Bastards, and Lama. You'd probably love all those if you're not into them already.

Now, admittedly I had never heard Tank before so I had to look up some of their stuff. A lot more "rock n roll" than what I expected for sure, and I was surprised to see that the main dude played bass in the Saints, one of my all time favorite 70s punk rock bands. I'm sure you know them, but if not, get their first 3 LPs now! If you're looking for something more on the rock 'n roll tip but with a melodic yet still rough sounding 70s punk vibe, the Vibrators would be my pick. The Ruts if you think you'd like something that sounds a bit like the Clash but with a sharper edged metallic vibe like Killing Joke meets Gang of Four...
