Well, I've noticed that many users here have interesting nicknames - let's talk about the origin of your nicknames and what does it mean!

Mine: first part came from the black metal band with the same name - but I don't know them yet! Seven years ago I did research in rock encyclopedia and there were two bands with interesting names under the letter "A" - Aeternitas and Aeternus. I like how it sounds and then I've translated it from Latin: "Aeternitas" = Eternity, "Aeternus" = Eternal. Then I'd like the word "Aeternus" even more and decided it to be my nickname - because I know then there is no death, so I'm eternal :D The second part is the year when I was born.

My story is not very outstanding but what about you?

I made mine when I was 15 and completely obsessed with Sonata Arctica. It started off as a play off of their album Ecliptica, but I didn't want to be totally unoriginal and use the actual title, so I just chopped off the "a" and added a super kvlt "k".
I may not be obsessed with them anymore, but they're still my favorite band so I still consider my username relevant to my interests, and thus haven't felt compelled to change it. Plus, I can use it to legitimize the space "theme" in my Last.fm account (which is also very relevant to my interests). Multifunctional!

Mine is an (unintentionally) misspelled version of Commandant (a military rank used in many different countries). I heard the name said in the Medal of honour allied assault campaign quite a few times and thought it sounded badass, so with no thought of spelling or anything I started using the name for online play in, as said previously, MoHAA and also anarchy online where I was nicknamed Commy :P .. It pretty much stuck till now (started using it when I was 7 or 8, am now 17). I've thought of changing it to the correct spelling, just because I know one day somebody's gonna call me out (surprised it hasn't happened already), but it's original(ish) and I don't really care any more if people notice its misspelled, so It'll probably remain misspelled forever.

I'm bad at coming up with names, and just went with the most unassuming/boring one I could think of.

I think mine's pretty self explanatory. (It's named after the biblical seabeast.) The IX was thrown on the there for the fuck of it. I guess I thought it looked cool or something.

My full stage name is Prometheus B. Subrick. The Prometheus B. part comes from the old Nickelodeon show Prometheus and Bob. The Subrick part my dad came up with 8 years ago when I needed an online username when we were setting up the then-newly released Mortal Kombat: Deception's online mode. It's a portmanteau of the character Sub-Zero and my real first name.

Mine has a geeky origin, I think. Back in the day, me and my buddies would meet up every Friday, get drunk and high and rap off the top of our heads for a few hours. It was called Freestyle Friday and eventually became a pretty big event, but I digress. I was really into Wu Tang, and I originally gave myself the name Sunswayze (in wu tang slang, Sun means man and swayze means something along the lines of "disappear into the shadows" (it's derived from the Patrick Swayze movie Ghost, if I recall)). Anyway, after a few months I dropped the Sun and became swayze, which I just think is a cool sounding word. That's the story.

I've had my user name since the days of AOL Instant Messager. Does anyone even still use that? Anyways, I stole it from Iced Earth's "Blessed Are You". I know had that name on IM during high school, so I've probably had the username since somewhere around 1999 or 2000.

It just so happened that the awesomely badass Abbath used it as a title for his I project. Which makes it an even better username to have.

Mine is simply because By Inheritance is one of my favourite thrash albums, plus I couldn't really think of anything at the time.

My name is John... and I am a Drummer :D
Actually, my dad's name is John as well, so when band mates would call my house they would ask for "John.... the drummer", it just kinda stuck.

I came up with mine on the spot as a username for an online game almost ten years ago. It means nothing, but it just stuck, and I've been using it for most anonymous memberships ever since.

Mine was just a phrase which I liked.

But the buggers in Fen decided to time-travel back five years to 2007 to steal it from me. I quite like Fen though, so I don't feel too inconvenienced.

After the mascot of the Honker Burger, because I loved the cartoon, sympathized with Doug's character in that episode, and thought that it adequately described me at the time (a 9 year old male with a love for hamburgers). Started using it on Starcraft Battle.net.

It's the inversion of the word humanist by combining it with the word inhuman. Like a fictional character who idealizes inhumanity.
It's a metal thing.

I can hardly remember, but I'm pretty sure some friends and I tried to put together a black metal band and decided we needed stage names. We decided that the stage names should start with the first letter of our real name so, naturally, I begin researching the names of demons and shit that begin with the letter 'R'. I can't remember how I stumbled upon 'Razakel' but to this day I think it's a pretty cool sounding username.

And hey, apparently someone else had the same idea: http://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Razakel/159959

was a huge Chrono Trigger Fan, liked Frog a lot....and well...ehh. I am not the biggest fan of my name all these years later, but 'Frog' is good and I'm used to people referring to me as that.

I find it interesting that you chose your name for the look of a set that has actually been graphically overhauled for months, but do not actually have a picture of how it looks now. :D

I was banned for being dumb and didn't feel like coming up with a unique name for my new account, was listening to Metallica's Holier Than Thou, replaced Holier with Thrashier since I like thrash, but forgot to put the r in, and thus the legend was born.

Fuck, that Razakel guy has huge arms.

Copied from a previous thread on this same topic:

I wrote:
AIM in 2001: Couldn't think of a name, so a friend used "Ozzy" (shorter nickname of my first name, Osman) and slapped "Apu" at the end, even though I don't watch The Simpsons (though I know who Apu is). He told me to use that and I've pretty much stuck with the name for most of my accounts.

At the time I wasn't a metalfan at all and hated it when people asked me if I liked Ozzy or Black Sabbath. Now, however, I love Sabbath and I like most of what Ozzy's done up to No More Tears.

I still don't watch The Simpsons and I couldn't care less about that Apu character.

No seriously, it sounded cool so I used it. A friend agreed and with that peer group confirmation, it became my online name. Nothing more to it than that. Although, since then others have commented that it sounds stupid. To hell with them! I'm keeping it.
