Out of these bands, I'm really only interested in:

Kyuss Lives
Anthrax
Dragonforce (Thanks to the new singer and album)
Duff Mckagan’s Loaded
Lucero
Six Feet Under

Some other bands that I'd watch out of interest like Metallica, Fozzy and The Offspring, but really it isn't doing much for me, I'll just stick to side-shows, festivals like this are never really worth it.

What I find funny is how up in arms people get about there not being enough metal bands playing, as if Soundwave was conceived as a metal festival, when really it is geared more towards a pop-punk/core audience, and always has been.

Pretty shit line up in my opinion, compared to last year anyway.

Cancer bats, six feet under & anthrax are all i want to see, and maybe Metallica and Offspring for old times sake, it's pretty much Big Day PT 2 by the looks of it.

Ah well, atleast we have Cannibal Corpse, at the gates, dark funeral & Hypocrisy to look forward to this year (and the start of next)

Indeed; I shall be at every one of those (as well as Nasum, Sunn 0))), Sabaton and possibly Ulcerate). Re Soundwave line-up, 'tis quite terrible from a metal perspective, but TheUglySoldier's right about this - it's not a metal festival, never meant to be. Soundwave might bring out a decent popular metal band now and then, but metalheads are simply not the target audience. The previous one - this year's - brought out some decent well-known bands (Cathedral, Paradise Lost, Meshuggah, Gojira, Kvelertak, Watain) that even attendees who weren't necessarily into metal may have heard of, but that was as far down the metal path as this festival is ever going to be - it's not going to engage with death, black or doom to any significant extent. The next line-up is a return to the pop/punk/core roots of the whole event. There's nothing on that bill to really excite me, though I'd like to finally see Anthrax. I am vaguely curious about the second announcement which, according to my sources, may include a few metal surprises; then again, that may just be PR talk. Meanwhile, I'll be planning my outings to metal festivals more likely to have something that suits my tastes - Evil Invaders and DoomNations.

Already looking forward to next years.

Soundwave has ONE good aspect to it - and that's hopefully some side shows. I would probably go and see Ghost in Sydney if they do a separate show away from this festival.

Last time Devil Driver did Soundwave, at least the Sydney show, was pretty bad I'm sorry to say. They pretty much converted me when I saw them at The Big Top (Free ticket, so why not?), as they were heavy as hell. They seemed to pick their much lighter songs for the Soundwave show, though.

Megadeth are definitely not coming, sorry dude.

Apparently Anthrax sidewaves might go ahead, which would make me happy; they're the only band here I'd want to see. That second announcement truly was horrendous; however, as previous comments note, it never really was intended to be a metal festival. I was never planning on going to the festival itself - even if there were good bands playing, there are always so many terrible acts with atrocious fans behaving like idiots - but my budget is certainly better off now that I won't be spending much (if anything - depends on Antrhax) on sidewaves; with all the other excellent gigs (and next year's Evil Invaders) to look forward to, and many more to come, there'll be plenty of better uses for the money...

I'm hoping Loaded opens for Anthrax, that'd be a great show. I heard Scott Ian, Chris Jericho, and Duff are doing some stand-up shows while they are here. Yup.

What's with the Native Americans on a poster for an Australian fest?

Yeah, 'nfi', as the young 'uns say. Take comfort in the knowledge that many of us down here - all the people I know, anyway - are puzzled by this, too.

Soundwave does this retarded theming every year. They've done Vikings, Ancient Greece, etc. A couple of people will dress up based on the theme, and that'll be it.

It is kinda lame, really.

The only reason that I could think of that is 99.9% bullshit is that Anthrax is on the bill... apart from that, maybe its because we couldn't do the same with our native people...

Well the third announcement is here:

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE
THE VANDALS
ORANGE GOBLIN
THE SWORD
CHELSEA GRIN
THE CHARIOT
SHARKS
NORTHLANE
O’BROTHER
DR.ACULA
MILESTONES

I guess Orange Goblin would be cool but really, more terrible fucking bands added.

Well you could always listen to The Vandals sing about mullets? That's pretty cool, right? I can say one thing: I will not be flying to Australia with a line up like this!

I'll go. The metal side of things is weak this time round, but I love me some NY/beatdown hardcore and there's enough of that on the lineup to make me show my pale face.

You ever see Sick of it All live? They put on a hell of a show, and always play a ton from their back catalog (Just Look Around, World Full of Hate, Rat Pack, etc).
