I've never heard this band, but being on the archives this long makes me wonder if this band needs a genre more suitable to stay here.
Sleaze/Glam Metal

Only 35 bands that have "glam" in the genre. Is glam an acceptable genre here that describe the music?

Well, Pantera and Celtic Frost could stay, since they only played Glam for a part of their career.

The difference is that those bands aren't only classified as "glam". They have "heavy metal" or another genre also noted.

As for Pantera and Celtic Frost, their glam albums have no bearing except when taking into account the albums that are metal.

Maybe someone should check all bands with the genre Melodic Metal that didn't describe the music. What metal anyway they playing? The same goes for Thrashcore.

Thrashcore bleeds into crossover, though I'll admit I've trouble differentiating between the two:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrashcore

Most of the bands in those search results look like they could do with a review.

The only one of those bands I recognize off the top of my head is Fedjha, and they (while bad) are completely acceptable at least. They're basically acceptable metalcore (really, really similar to AILD) with more overtly thrashy riffs.

Guys, I don't think that aeternus1990 is suggesting that the bands with these genres be evaluated and judged whether or not they should stay on the Metal Archives. I think he's basically saying that these are silly, rather descriptionless terms that could be scrapped in favor of something more universally recognized and accepted (sort of like how I feel about "mallcore", for instance). If he was trying to get the bands deleted, he probably would have posted in the correct thread for that as he's used it before.

Right, I'm saying that genre should describe the music, melodic metal doesn't describe what kind of metal it is and thrashcore is a sub-genre of hardcore punk that have place in mid 80-s with bands like Siege, Lärm, Heresy and Infest. These bands obviously not metal. But if bands with "Thrashcore" were accepted to MA they are obviously more metal or crossover-like thrash metal, so genre should be changed to crossover or metal genre should be added to these just "thrashcore" bands.

Genres of Taste and El Reloj should be changed:
Taste - Heavy Metal/Hard Rock instead of Heavy/Glam Metal
El Reloj - Progressive/Hard Rock (early), Heavy/Power Metal (later) instead of Hard Rock, Progressive Rock (early) Heavy Metal/Hard Rock (later).
I also made reports for each band with many sound samples - El Reloj, Taste. Thanks!

So the new album from The Faceless came out today.

Personally, I think they stopped being deathcore on Planetary Duality, but Autotheism certainly has ZERO deathcore on it. So I propose that their genre be changed to "Technical Deathcore (early), Progressive/Technical Death Metal (now)".

Here's the whole album:

How about to change "Grindcore" to "Goregrind" in the genres of Impetigo and Xysma? Impetigo are one of the first goregrind bands along with Carcass, and early Xysma is pure Carcass worship. They have all elements to fit in goregrind:

Impetigo:

Genre should be Groove,Metalcore (I'd go as far as to call some of their stuff Mallcore) or anything like that but certainly not Death/Thrash.

So I was just listening to the Blood & Time sole album, side-project of Neurosis members, and I couldn't help to notice how misplaced the band's genre descriptor is. I mean this is very similar to the solo work of both of Neurosis singers with a mellowed down and calm folkish atmosphere, with a lot of acoustic guitars and all. Hardly "progressive sludge" I say.

Could the mods take a look at it?

Suggest a genre? It's hard to classify.

Erh... maybe something along the lines of Scott's solo project? "Progressive folk" or something like that? The album has little to no metal at all in my opinion.

MA considers Heathen to be "technical speed"? Considering that only one album out of three can be called out as "technical" I find that a bit weird. Also for the sake of consistency could Aghora be changed from "Progressive/Jazz Metal" to "Progressive Metal/Jazz Fusion"? It makes more sense that way. Same tag could be applied to Gordian Knot really.

Is "pagan metal" a subgenre of metal? Something like viking or black?! I saw that there is plenty of "pagan metal" bands but actually even if I have been listening to metal for many many years I still don't get how "pagan" sounds like.. I mean, even "viking" to me is not acceptable (just like "pirate" metal or "medieval" metal.. most of the times they fall into categories like power/folk, folk/black etc.) but it's understandable at some extent.. but "pagan"?!

I'm not enough of an expert on black and folk metal to distinguish pagan metal from the rest of the stuff, but it's been considered legit for as long as I've seen it.

Also, aesthetic genres like pirate metal can fuck right off since they don't tell you anything about how the band actually sounds. Viking metal, on the other hand, is fine as long as you're referring to a slower, grandiose style like mid era Bathory. If you're gonna call every band that sings about vikings viking metal, then you're in the same boat as pirate metal.

^ This. :)

Also, "pagan metal" (or pagan black metal) typically refers to black metal that draws on melodic/folk metal influences without them dominating the musical structure. See Varg.

I thought the "technical" descriptor was more than justified.

Adjusted Aghora's genre, but I don't know Gordian Knot well enough to make that change atm.

Could you totally eliminate "brutal death metal" as a genre? In addition, you might associate with "slam death metal" band like this.

It's a legitimate, established genre, so I don't see any reason to.

Where is enstabilished this genre? I really would know where it is entabilished and what are its common senses. This genre is reliable at all, if you visit on the web.
Just little example:

Wikipedia (EN): this genre has been erased
Spirit of metal: Deicide are brutal death metal, insted here not.
Rym: Cannibal Corpse are brutal death metal (here not)
Many many other sites are agree with Rym.

Then, brutal death the voice is much lower, but Mortician, Broken Hope, Rottrevore aren't in this genre. Brutal Death is even faster and with lower and fast groove than old school death, but Dying Fetus, Mortician aren't.

... Oh for fuck's sake.

First of all, Wikipedia is the least reliable source of information on metal. Everybody knows that.

Second, Spirit of Metal is an even less accurate source than Wikipedia. Even the "big/famous" bands listed on that site are littered with errors and questionable information. Nobody bothers to moderate that site's info because the users don't give a crap.

Quote:

See, you're a tool. You clearly don't know what BDM: Brutal death is characterised by thicker distortion, dirtier guitars and heavier tuning. The songwriting is generally more straightforward and simplistic than "standard" death metal, and there's usually an absence of guitar leads.

Ok, wikipedia isn't reliable, I agree. About Spirit of Metal i can't say anything, but ok. These sites are different points of view about a genre not absolutly steady. Indeed, Mortician corresponds to these characteristics, but ...

Yes, you're at least right about Mortician. I wasn't even aware that their page's genre simply said "Death Metal". I've fixed it.
