CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) "Composition of Flesh" CD review by heavymetaltribune

Image

By Hong Rui

After facing numerous lineup changes over the course of their history, Swedish death metal band Corrosive Carcass finally releases their debut full length album, Composition of Flesh, 8 long years after their formation all the way back in 2004. The fear of yet another Entomed or Nihilist clone once again left me hesitant in listening to the album, yet fortunately there are surprises that Corrosive Carcass has put into Composition of Flesh that manage to make it stand out somewhat from the rest of their peers.
Being Swedish, by nature the gnarly guitar tone and the d-beat infused drumming styles are immediately noticeable right from the start of the album, and the influences from old school Swedish death metal bands like Entombed are immediately clear. Even the lead guitars that are present on the album also reek of these influences, such as the haunting solo on Butchershop, not particularly flamboyant but the heavy tone and the slow, melodic approach could easily fit on an Entombed track. But vocalist Jonathan takes a more savage approach in his vocal styles, often belting out the lyrics on the album in a tortured growl, going from high-pitched shrieks to low-pitched guttural growls, without any care for proper techniques whatsoever, and the main point being the aggression that is in the music.
While the music of Corrosive Carcass are fundamentally and undeniably old school Swedish death metal, the band has also included some influences from other death metal forefathers such as Death, such as on the opening moments of songs like Self Mutilation, with the somewhat thrashy feel of the riffing style, preventing the band from sounding like a complete clone of the old school Swedish death metal legends. There are even the doom-laden moments on tracks like Born in a Casket, that instantly sends an ominous feeling to the listener, and reeks heavily of death and gore, fitting to the themes that Corrosive Carcass has written on Composition of Flesh. Collector even includes an acoustic moment towards the end of the track to further up the already haunting atmosphere.
The band also takes a rather straightforward approach in their songwriting style, with most of the tracks on the album lasting less than 3 minutes, with Avatar barely meeting the 1 minute mark even, and this keeps the listener constantly on his feet, anticipating the next round of onslaught by the band. That said though, the band surprises the listener with the album closer The End of Us All, almost hitting 8 minutes, displaying that the band is more capable than just being able to write short songs.
Swedish death metal is far from being my favourite death metal subgenre, but Composition of Flesh has managed to keep me captivated throughout, with the violent and aggressive undertone that the band has taken, making it a rather enjoyable release from these Swedes.

FESTER (Norway) "A Celebration of Death" CD review by wickedchannel

Image

By Mike

Fester may just be an acquired taste for some, but for me, they are pioneers in the blackened death metal subgenre of metal. Hard to believe that it has been 17 years since Fester has brought us new material, but after listening to their latest piece, A Celebration of Death, it seems like they never left. If rumors are correct, Fester called it quits after having received some less than friendly threats from the anti-death metal inner circle of bands during that time period.
Their old-school riffs and raspy vocals truly truly make for one of their darkest releases to date. Songs like March of Death and The Black Tower are errie and ominous. They take you on a journey into the deepest bowels of hell and you are a welcome participant in this journey. Fester has not lost their flair for doom-infused blackened death metal, and I am happy that they have not. It makes for a true “Celebration of Death” (pun intended).
Throughout the length of the album, we are treated to funeral-style riffs that the darkest of souls would truly welcome into their company. With riff after riff and melody-driven elements, you never tire of these tracks. If you missed the old Fester, then you would be glad to have them back.

DIABOLICAL Releases Pre-Production Trailer For Neogenesis

Image

DIABOLICAL are in the progress of recording their fifth album, entitled "Neogenesis", and have now released a pre-production teaser on Youtube.

Vocalist and guitarist Sverker Widgren comments: "The recording is well under way and the reults are very pleasing so far to say the least. However, it will take a while before we can share any of the actual album material, so we figured we can share some of our demo / pre-production material with all of you out there. I think it will be obvious to everyone now why we are very thrilled about the new album and it is our hope that you can join us in the excitement."

The pre-production teaser can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlMNkMtM-4k

The band entered Necromorbus Studio in June to begin the recording process for Neogenesis. Guitarist/vocalist Sverker Widgren, who produced the band's 2008 release The Gallery Of Bleeding Art, is once again handling production duties. A series of video reports featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the making of Neogenesis are being posted on Youtube as the album develops. The first two episodes can be seen below.

RADIATION SICKNESS (U.S.) "Reflections of a Psychotic Past" CD review by misantropiaextrema

Image

By misantropiaextrema

Formed in 1987, the Americans played a kind Radiation Sickness more aggressive and dangerous crossover (which includes killer thrash and death metal old school ) for five years, releasing two "albums "EP-sized, two models and a pair of splits before disappearing from the map. Now they are back with a new studio album and it sounds dirty, rotten, aggressive, able to please fans of the most primitive part of the Death or Obituary with clear hints of thrash. The seven new tracks reveal a more careful production but no more polished and pretty - what the Radiation Sickness play lends itself to the sound in your face , raw and direct as that 'Reflections Of The Past Psychotic "features, which falls and the death / thrash primitive, although a little generic band from Indianapolis. To help the party, the disc also features tracks from the "album" 1990 "The Ohter Me - A Journey Into Insanity" fully remastered, showing one side slightly more punk -ish , but basically the same stylistic approach. If the thrash / death of old is your scene, "Reflections Of The Past Psychotic 'may be a good treasure to discover.

HUMANGLED (Italy) Interview by http://www.bandstribe.it

Image

BT) Your history as a band is long and winding road: the public to discuss BT

H) Our band was founded in the mid-nineties, as the evolution of a death metal project very special grind-industrial, with which we are facing the underground music at a young age. We made the first demo "Anatomic Butchery" in 1997, after which for various reasons personal to the lineup broke up in ricostituirci after 10 year break and get there - after 2 EP - the debut album "Fractal" in 2010, where we unloaded all our instincts and musical influences.

BT) Two years ago came a very important occasion in your career: working with the Abyss Records (USA). How did this offer?

H) We got to see us on Myspace, who a few years ago was a good site for underground bands, and we chose the Abyss among others because there was immediately a very active attitude of the label on how to promote their rooster, and luckily we found the perfect size for the band to distribute physically and digitally on CD worldwide.

BT) About this, can you talk a bit 'of the differences between American and European music market?

H) There is the impression that in the U.S., there is still that kind of waiting for the CD out that is a bit '(too) dwindled away because of downloading the wild, we think this is to be ascribed to a certain way of relate to the music, with much more attention and "loyalty" to the band like that to the trend of the moment. Even just finding old works, targeted questions, etc.. by some fans overseas enables us to think about this.

BT) "Odd Ethics" is your second official album, preceded by two EPs and a publication 15 years ago. How are you going to this new release?

H) At the moment very well! We are pleased with the reviews that are coming out and especially in the light of these aspects are also dissected in "Fractal" not all were caught. We like to think of "Odd Ethics" as a picture of this transition between Humangled Fractal and what's next album with a renewed line-up attitude and higher.

BT) The album title does not suggest that you save text and sound violent: you can give some more impressions to your fans?

H) The text, as per our tradition, speak of all the worst that permeates our modern society. Especially this time we focused on issues such as aggressive treatment, the physical pain inflicted, hypocrisy and religious beliefs built for profit.

BT) of Serbia in what you have to promote this new job?

H) Primarily go live in the activity last year and a half, which saw us share the stage with bands listed that is underground. Promoting our live set with scenic elements that, in a certain way, complete our sound, making some of the texts' visible 'and more' easily understood. Besides that also treat the web as usual, we just launched a contest to design our next t-shirt, who was interested ... can 'always groped to win!

BT) As you can see the extreme music scene today, that during these last few years has had a sort of "boom"?

H) Unfortunately, the "boom" in our eyes was almost entirely 'quantitative', more 'and quality. We understand better now how important the work of the label producing works deserving, when we meet to hear dozens of bands that churn out discs to 98% identical to capture the trend of the moment. Ok the "Carpe Diem", but here is exaggerated, and not just with hair or make-up. However there are actually ultra-sound in the band "scene" Italian, but usually those are the ones that prefer to have finally picked up only a small part of the fruits of their good work with some of these bands try - with pleasure - of sharing the stage when possible.

BT) How do you think has influenced the music industry the advent of "home recording", which gave the opportunity for lesser known bands to expose themselves?

H) The home recording has definitely given a strong impetus to the proliferation of numerous projects also very interesting. But we remain of the view that there is still a significant gap between the study of quality professional and do-it-yourself. We believe the underlying problems that continue to prefer the home recording from the recording studio are manifold: first the cost but also the fact that on one hand the bands do not usually have clear ideas about how it will play the their work and the other studios that regardless of what is required, continue to work to an inflexible production protocols.

BT) What are your projects coming soon?

H) will continue with the promotion of "Odd Ethics" always cultivating the writing of new material for the next album. We are completely absorbed by Humangled.

BT) Is there any particular message you want and then leave the conclusion to the visitors of BandsTribe?

H) We want to thank all those who want to listen to original music and support the bands that believe in their individuality and in their music.

ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) "Against All Odds" CD review by planetmosh

Image

By Mark Ashby

When this black metal crew issued their sophomore EP, ‘To Whatever End’, in 2009, it was hailed as one of the best examples of the genre to emerge from the island of Ireland at the time. It was praise which was well-deserved, as it was an excellent slab of Celtic-tinged BM, filled to overflowing with atmospherics, crushing riffs and tight musical performances, and the release quickly established Eternal Helcaraxe established them alongside the likes of the longer established Waylander as one of the prime forces in the movement.

Now, almost three years later, their first full length album has finally dropped, via the US-based Abyss Records – and it truly ups the ante in terms of establishing the ‘fair’ island of Erin as a place to be reckoned with in terms of the quality of darkened, extreme metal which it is currently unleashing on the rest of the unsuspecting world.

After the calm before the storm that is the atmospheric ‘Claim Your Place With The Gods’, ‘One Still Stands Here’ launches the assault proper: driven by the punishing drumming of Eyrith and the pummelling bass of Thule, it develops into a truly brutal, evil riff from Maulgrim and Praetorian, before the latter’s vocals kick in with ferocity of a wolf unleashed in a pit of menstruating virgins after having been starved for a month.

‘Invictus’ is as brilliantly dark slice of pure evil BM as you are going to hear this year, with Praetorian’s vocals guaranteed to send a shiver down the spine of even the coldest corpses. ‘We Assist Death’ hits like an army of Celtic warriors in full berserker mode, before easing off on the pedals (at least in relation to the melodic guitar line) in the second half, to allow the battering rams of Eyrith’s drumming to continue working on your few remaining defences. ‘Shadow Of The Wolf’ is another blitzkrieg of punishment, characterised once again by the full-on, unrelenting drumming and Praetorian’s dark, menacing growling and shrieking.

The majestic ‘As The Snow Gathers’ tells the story of a warrior waiting for his death, and sees Praetorian’s vocal at the height of its powers, as he combines just the right amounts of power and restraint to tell his tale, complete with a beautifully contrasting clean male voice in the middle section and the soaring orchestral section echoing the departure of the warrior’s soul to the next world. The theme is repeated on ‘Echoes Through Our Blood’, this time the story of a chieftain challenging his life of bloodshed, which is delivered with a fiercesome brutality to match that which the subject has meted out to his foes, while closer ‘Against All Odds’ sees the warrior return home to his beloved wife (with just the hint that it as his spirit self…) and is a fittingly epic end to proceeds, combining all of the elements of what has gone before into one huge masterpiece.

Despite the violence, and the themes of battle and bloodshed (it’s not a concept album as such, but certainly the songs are inextricably interlinked in their subject matter), there is a very introspective feel to the album, especially on the melodic, verging on morose, musical interludes which are interjected into many of the songs. It’s not a black metal album in terms of the subjects which it addresses, but in the way in which it addresses them and in its delivery… but, then that is a trend many BM bands have been following of late, using the medium to deliver a more meaningful message.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) "Composition of Flesh" CD review by Scream Magazine (Norway)

Image

By Steinar Selstø

has taken some years for the Swedish Corrosive Carcass to arrive at his debut. A lot of time has elapsed to find the soul, and now has done just that. Found the soul. Or Entombed and Autopsy. Devoid of originality, the band well, but they possess enough of the qualities that they get safely from the same. Mon recreates the best you can the sound Entombed had in the early 90's and throw then into some tough parts ala Autopsy, and suddenly you have a ready-death metal album. The quintet deserve credit for having managed to create a really cool sound where the basement deep bass really ripped, and vocalist Sjöblom classic death metal vocals suits the music very dirty as well. The songs length is generally about three minutes, and thus avoid pulling them out ad nauseam. A good dose of fat riffs the band has also come up with, and the album should be worth a check for the fans of the traditional Swedish death metal.

This review was originally written in Norwegian and has been translated using Google Translate. The original review in Norwegian can be seen below.

DIE HARD (Sweden) "Evil Always Return / Emissaries of the Reaper" DIGI CD review by http://www.vs-webzine.com

Image

By Wasted

On 29 September 2012 will be the return date at the forefront of Swedish DIE HARD with the release of their second album, "The Conjure Legions". We reserve the new album after the change of two-thirds of the line-up that occurred last year? I can not tell you yet, but we'll talk about probably the next few weeks. For now, here is a wait with the reissue on CD of early recordings of the group, namely the demo "Emissaries of the Reaper" (2007) and the EP "Evil Always Return" (2008). If regular such compilations are of interest to fans, the one we proposed here by Abyss Records presents a real interest for fans of death / thrash resolutely old school. Overall it found there laid the foundations of the LP "Nihilistic Vision" published in 2009, but so much wilder. Understand and there made a less smooth than on this first album and an EP for me so totally enjoyable. There is really no waste on "Evil Always Return", its strength derives primarily from its diversity. It alternates between rhythmic and frantic thrash riffs frantic mornings ("Black Mass") and pure old school death metal passages so steamroller ("Beneath Pain and Death"), punctuated by a few messy solos at will ("The Weak Lead the Blind "), a result absolutely insane. Add to this no-frills production, could not be more suited to the style practiced and you get the best recordings to date DIE HARD. The demo "Emissaries of the Reaper" is not left, even though "The Hate Within "and" Pestilent "are the only two songs that were not included on the EP. Regrettable? No, instead, it allows to discover a DIE HARD, certainly could not be more raw, but just as effective with the demo in its rough around the edges. Two bonus tracks from rehearsals, respectively 2006 and 2007, just close this compilation, history of him approaching forty minutes. This remains anecdotal for me because the EP "Evil Always Return" alone justifies the purchase.

ERUPTED Comments On Upcoming Abyss Records Debut

Image

Up and coming Swedish death dealers Erupted are wrapping up work on their forthcoming debut full-length for Abyss Records. Titled In the Grip of Chaos, the album is slated for release later this year. The track "That Which Is Denied Gains Power" is now streaming at this location: http://soundcloud.com/erupted/that-whic ... ed-gains-1

The band commented, "During the last months of 2011 until April of 2012 we have been doing recordings for our upcoming album. We haven't had a lot of time to play live, socialize or even drink beer. But now, more than half a year after it was started, our album is on the finishing stretch, and we can proudly present one of the tracks
This album is going to consist of both new and old tracks, some of which our longtime listeners might remember from live shows or earlier recordings. We are currently looking for shows for our summer, and hopefully we will be out showcasing our new material a lot, so keep an eye out for live videos and recordings to get sneak previews of more songs!
The whole studio experience has been special because both bass and drums was recorded on an analog tape recorder, which meant a lot of retakes, but we hope that some of the ''live'' feeling got recorded on there as well. Besides that the recording experience has been good. All the mixing and mastering was done at Kloster Productions by Robin ''Rojne'' Svensson, the same guy that mixed Faces of Death''

The band has posted a teaser video for In the Grip of Chaos HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqHu-CBu1es

Erupted was formed in 2010 when a former project of three members of Beyond Hell, a band plagued with lineup changes, decided to make a new start. After playing several local shows during 2010 and in 2011, Erupted recorded a three-song EP entitled Faces of Death.
Released on June 1st of 2011, Faces of Death sold out in two hours. Playing off that momentum, Erupted is currently laying down the tracks for their highly anticipated debut full-length. Erupted's musical style is based on old school elements with a modern and progressive touch, as well as an philosophical and occult lyrical element.

HUMANGLED (Italy) "Odd Ethics" CD EP review by http://www.thegrimtower.blogspot.com

Image

By Eric May

Humangled is a different kind of death metal band. I know that you've heard that thousands of times before, but what they do is very different; if not very awkward. I know that you've also heard that term, "awkward" or "unique" thrown around quite a bit too, but these guys do approach the music with a very odd sensibility.

It is still death metal at it's core, but the progressive riffs on this disc are played with an approach that is less cleaner and more awkward, then we'd expect from other death metal bands who incorporate prog into their music. Also expect some groove throughout the disc, because it's definitely a big part of the band's sound.

Though the album is short, and more or less a sample of what the band has to offer, the four songs on this disc are just enough to give us a good taste of the odd death metal that we can expect from these guys. In all honesty, you'd have to imagine influence from bands like Atheist or early Cynic (Man, I seem to love repeating myself with those guys) except that the riffs would be almost out of tune in instances. The album actually starts out with a riff that reminds me of a Mexican bullfight. That's not something you'd expect.

"Skinned, To Feel All 3:55" makes me think of a little bit of Pantera's dirty thrash with slight bit more prog that they ever used but might have incorporated more of on the comeback, had Dime not lost his life. But one can only grasp at straws there. For now, just sit back and enjoy this odd, dirty prog death act.

There's a little bit of influence from everything from Pantera to Carcass to Atheist and more. An act that is definitely full of promise and an EP worth buying.

Highlights: Needles Of The Blind, Skinned, To Feel All, Deny Your Creed (4 Tracks, 14:00)

Rating: 8/10

SOUTHWICKED (U.S. / Europe) Interview and "Death's Crown" CD review by http://www.thegrimtower.blogspot.com

Image

By Eric May

THE INTERVIEW

If you could, describe the process in making this album. What was the toughest part of that process

Rock: Getting the capital to complete it was the toughest part. We demoed 3 songs in Tampa in April 2009. A year later Allen Marco and I slept in my old band Kult of Thorn's rehearsal room in Phoenix AZ for two weeks and wrote the rest of the album. The drums were recorded at Villain Recording at that time. The bass and some of the guitars were recorded at Red Room Recorders in Tampa in January 2011 and the vocal and rest of guitars were recorded at Slavedriver Studio, Hasslet, Belgium in April 2011. Just before our first tour with Master.

What albums/bands are the most influential to your sound?

Rock: Obviously some of the songs on Death's Crown sounds like Obituary because Allen sounds and writes like Allen. Personally I just wrote what I thought would be the best basslines for the songs. I try my best to sound like Rock Rollain, even when I'm pretending to be Geezer Butler!

How do you feel about the state of death metal in 2012?

Rock: Southwicked is doing just fine. That's the only Death Metal band I'm concerned about.

Do you think that there are too many core and technical elements in death metal these days?

Rock: What any other band plays is up to them.

Be honest. What did you guys think of Morbid Angel's last album, "Illud Divinum Insanus?"

Rock: As long as the guys in Morbid Angel are happy with it is all that matters..

How did the name of the band come about?

Rock: We wanted to call the band Old Sparky but that name was already in use so we liked the idea of using a play on Alfred Southwick's (the inventor of the electric chair) name cause he was from my hometown, Buffalo NY and it fit with the concept of Death's Crown.

What do you think of sites like bandcamp and others that allow users to "name their own price" on albums? Do you think this is the future, especially for lesser known bands?

Rock: It means to me that bands will have to make up for that lost income by selling other things like Vinyl LP's, shirts, patches and whatever else they can think of. Site like that are part of the business nowdays. Musicians just have to deal with it.

With all this talk of apocalypse, what's the first thing that you would do "after the shit went down?

Rock: Put on a new pair of clean underwear and go to rehearsal.

Image

THE REVIEW

Basically, this is a band arisen from another band, as most bands usually start. The album starts up with a felon being put into the electric chair, and then as soon as he receives the shock of his life, the first track, "Death's Crown 4:58" starts up, and with it, I am greeted at the forefront with an awesome solo. Yes, a really fucking great solo, folks. This is how metal is supposed to sound.

Then the band starts kicking into gear, and as soon as they do, I'm greeted with some great gravelly vocals and death metal grooves. But not only that, because there's a great drummer behind the kit and the lead guitarist shows his stuff with some Cynic/Athiest style riffing if you'll listen. The song ends with a great melody and some hypnotic sound effects.

Next song comes in, and boom - another fucking solo. I wouldn't care if every song on this thing started with a solo, but it's not so for the disc. What you are going to get here is an old school death metal project with slightly raw production. But you don't want over produced shit. You want shit that sounds real, like the classic era of death metal; when people used what they had. These guys don't disappoint on that.

You want grooves and killer vocals, right? You'll fucking get that here. If I can say one thing about this album, it is that it is made to be played at full blast with the windows down, while driving up and down the road! Even death n' roll tracks like "The Phantom Prince 4:50" will definitely make your commute more enjoyable, while also pissing off everyone else on the street. But who cares about that? Fuck em! Death metal was meant to be played so loud that everyone can hear and enjoy it, whether they want to, or not.

Here, there's no real technical sessions (other than the opener and title track) and there's no CLEAN VOCALS. This is death metal, the way death metal has been made for years. This is that kind of "go get an axe and hack your neighbors" sort of death metal that doesn't get old. Well, not for most people, anyway. Fans of Grave, early Six Feet Under, Bolt Thrower, Unleashed, Obituary and Torture Killer would enjoy this shit immensely. It's mostly death and groove, but it's done right.

Yeah, if you don't like your death to groove and would rather it be more brutal with fiercer drumming, you might not like this one. It's not incessantly brutal, but it's a good romp through the graveyards of the old school.

Bonus Track: The Only Living Witness (5:13) This has got to be an Obituary cover. I can tell by the riffing, because it definitely reminds me of them. But you know, I could be wrong, as I haven't scoured that much of the ancient death metal albums. Regardless, the cover seems to have been done justice and it retains the death and groove nature of this band. Definitely worth checking out. The solos on this one are certainly worth hearing as well, as this is how death metal solos are played.

I personally enjoyed the hell out of this one. If you like your death to groove, you will too. Not much here for melody, other than the wicked solos; but if you're tired of over the top technical stuff, then check this one out.

Highlights: Death's Crown, Craving For Blood, The Phantom Prince, Graveyard Of Bones, The Only Living Witness (9 Tracks, 39:00)

Rating: 8/10

RADIATION SICKNESS (U.S.) "Reflections of a Psychotic Past" CD review by http://www.thegrimtower.blogspot.com

Image

By Eric May

Whether you love these guys or not, this is their first record in twenty plus years. They were playing grind back when the music was practically fucking founded, and split up in 1992. Played a show in 2010 and decided to make a new album.

So what've we got? Well, basically we've got a very old school sounding sort of death-punk thing going on, but there's really no exact pinning of these guys. With each track being less than four minutes at the most, and 37:00 filling up with 19 tracks, there's a lot of variation. Doug Palmer's vocals are sort of like a black metal scowl, and tracks like the longest cut "Tripping The Seas Of Madness 3:58" can sound a little bit like black metal. But it's then obvious, as the band is definitely one to switch many gears.

When I mean many gears, I mean that there's a definite clusterfuck of sound here. It's definitely extreme and it's definitely along the lines of death metal. You'll also hear a surprising amount of structure on the disc, as well as some great drumming on each and every track courtesy of Mike Herold.

But the disc does have a lot of 1:00 tracks that sound roundabout the same. After the first couple of songs, I'm left with a very stale feeling. Yes, there are good tracks on this album - but despite what loops and bounds that the band uses (prog, tech, solos, clean vocal, and other ideas) the whole thing comes off as still sounding unpolished.

But give them a break, they haven't been around for years and are just getting back into the swing of things. This is a bunch of guys just having fun and playing the music that they love. Shit, they might make another one next year, who knows? At any rate, if you like your grindcore very old fashioned, without piggie squeals, overwhelming drums and gravel, (more angry, less brutal) you'll probably dig this. The production and everything sound as raw as if they'd released it much earlier. But that is a part of the band's style, so I will not fault that.

I've never been much a fan of grind, can't really point out any highlights. But there are some interesting ideas used on to this one that will appeal to certain people. Pick it up for nostalgia, or pick it up to hear what grindcore used to sound like before all the gore and sounds of a slaughtered pig.

For grind, this isn't too bad. Reminds me a little of old Carcass.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) Interview and "Composition of Flesh" CD review by http://www.thegrimtower.blogspot.com

Image

By Eric May

THE INTERVIEW

If you could, describe the process in making this album. What was the toughest part of that process?

-The songs on this albums are songs that we been working on since about 2009 so we had a lot of time for the wrighting process.
In studio things went pretty good, maybe we should had a little more time for recording but thinks turned out great anyway.

What albums/bands are the most influential to your sound?

-Our biggest influenses must be the early albums with Autopsy and Death, but also from swedish bands like dismember entombed, grave and so on.

How do you feel about the state of death metal in 2012?

-There is starting to pop up some great bands, the last good album I bought with a new great band was Morbus Chron debut album.

Do you think that there are too many core and technical elements in death metal these days?

-Yes, we are not into that kind of stuff. Don't really understand what so good about that.

Be honest. What did you guys think of Morbid Angel's last album, "Illud Divinum Insanus"?

-It suck to be honest haha.

What do you think of sites like bandcamp and others that allow users to "name their own price" on albums? Do you think this is the future, especially for lesser known bands?

-Never heard about Bandcamp, but we have some songs online so people can listen to our music and if they like it they can buy our CD´s from our label or directly from us!
If they want our CD they just have to accept the price we decided, there is a lot of work behind our music, artwork, promotion ect.

With all this talk of apocalypse, what's the first thing that you would do "after the shit went down?

- If we survive? Never though about that before, make our selves leaders of the world is a good idea dont you think?

Thank you for your questions, gentlemen.

THE REVIEW

Corrosive Carcass has the right idea about death metal. They've got some intriguing riffs that manage to make their way into the songs. There's definitely some atmosphere in their music that also keeps them from being too boring. But, I will honestly say that I wasn't overall impressed with the entire package.

According to my PR Info, the band seemed to switch back and forth between members and styles. They started out doing death metal, and then decided to do something else - I have no idea what I could've been - but then they came back and decided to do death metal again, as well as change things up a bit on the musician end.

You can hear the sound of a band attempting to come back into their own on this disc. I've no idea what their previous albums/bands sounded like, but this has definitely achieved that death metal sound that they had been looking for. My biggest problem with this disc isn't the music however, there's everything from speedy thrashers to Swedish grooves to all out pummeling - it's the vocals. Many of them feel extremely rushed and don't even fit in with the melodies. I'm not really hearing any direction there, and that's a bad sign.

But perhaps these guys need more time to mold together. The effort seems slightly polished, but slightly green in some areas; and I guess that's to be expected of a debut. Death metal fans will enjoy the slightly raw quality of the disc, and there are plenty of interesting ideas on these tracks. The album also seems to go on much longer than it needs to in some aspects. Out of thirteen tracks, there's about nine of them that I liked. That's not too bad.

If you're curious, you can give these guys a spin. You might even really come to enjoy them. I'm still a bigger fan of bands in the same genre like Paganizer and Revolting, but this is certainly not a bad album. Give it a shot at least!

Highlights: The Flesh Is Not Enough, Butchershop, Born In A Casket, Awesome Nuclear Power, Twist Of A Knife, Collector, Dawning Death, Hunger, The End Of Us All (13 Tracks, 41:00)

FETUS STENCH (Sweden) "Stillbirth" CD review by beyondmetal

Image

By GV

Another over Sweden! That was the first thing I said to know the origin of Fetus Stench. I started to put the cd of these Swedes, and obviously influenced by the label that identifies them and what I found was a surprise more and turned to cross-examine again?, Simple it is strength, dynamism, recreation and much death metal with Swedish label, perhaps most important here is not your typical clone or the band that is simple and the path made by others and eat it, no, no Fetus Stench gives you that feeling frivolous and transient past, are here to continue framing a sound framework and pattern continues, the house brand. There are 9 pieces evil at times but remember you do not confuse others and well-made music simply do not have to seek them riddles and mathematical formulas is good and point and "Stillbirth" this is saying a lot, good sound, clear production, strong themes, simple but sharp guitars and nothing monotonous, a recreation vocal perfectly saturates the soil.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) "Composition of Flesh" CD review by beyondmetal

Image

By Danny Razor

This as the title suggests it is corrosive, dirty, rotten, following the school faithful to Swedish death metal but this time with more climbing to the gore and heaviness, Corrosive Carcass going in his mantle muffling with good care and death time direct, without many technical gadgets. "Rot. In. Pieces "was his first demo released in 2010, this time with the American label Abyss Records Hofors these natives delight us in 13 cuts fast and intense and where the longer the last issue of this cd" the end of us all "hard more than seven minutes the rest of the songs does not exceed 3 minutes except for "awesome nuclear power" "collector" and "Unger", which can give you some idea where the shots go, crisp output, good artwork, where the only dichotomy is that the voice is not very well captured and not heard enough from the other instruments you where you may rest a little force to the disc. If you like Dismember, Seance, Entombed, Nihilist and the like that is your thing, listen to it or die!!!

FETUS STENCH (Sweden) "Stillbirth" CD review by http://www.undergrind.net

Image

By DISCORD

Swedish Death Metal packaged the American way. Fetus Stench’s debut, released through Abyss Records, has all the ingredients to be the successor to bands like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel and Malevolent Creation. Although the latter has a stronger emphasis on a technical playing style than what you can find on Stillbirth, there is no way that anybody can make me believe that Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel aren’t done for when it comes to their most recent releases. We are in need of a band that can fill those boots and Fetus Stench is a great option.
On Stillbirth Fetus Stench bashes through 9 tracks with unpretentious and uncomplicated Death Metal. While the individual songs don’t show a lot of individual qualities you don’t have to be afraid that this album will fall apart from unwanted excursions and moronic experimentation.
Solid musicianship and a taste for simplicity on the first 7 tracks make this album to what it is. Only to show that on the last two tracks Fetus Stench is able to add an interesting twist to their brutality with more depth and some darker sounding guitar sequences. Descending Into The Realm Of The Dead and By Butchery Divorced balance out the album nicely, making Stillbirth a recommended release.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) Interview by rawnervezine

Image

By Martin Harris

Corrosive Carcass carry the Scandinavian goblet of gore with considerable pride. Martin Harris chats with their guitarist Christian Kanto.

Sweden's Corrosive Carcass may not be the founding demons of the so called Swedeath scene but by hell they carry the Scandinavian goblet of gore with considerable pride on their debut album "Composition Of Flesh" released after only one demo "Rot In Pieces" from 2010. Getting noticed in the burgeoning resurrecting old school death metal ranks is not easy with hundreds of acts vying for position in an increasingly saturated and festering scene but the Swedes have done what many bands try and fail to accomplish and that's to achieve exalted recognition with a crushing and creative album. Raw Nerve had a chat with guitarist Christian Kanto.

Raw Nerve: Many thanks for doing this interview for Raw Nerve, it really is appreciated. Can you give us a brief history on the band to date?

Christian: Hello Martin, the band as it is today was not really formed in 2004, back then it was just some friends starting to play together for fun and exploring different kinds of metal music. Corrosive Carcass was formed in 2007 when vocalist Jonathan Sjöblom joined the band and they decided to play death metal seriously. Two years later guitarist Christian Kanto joined the band and then the band was formed as it is today. We recorded our first official demo ''Rot.In.Pieces'' in 2010.

Raw Nerve: My research has shown, correct me if I'm mistaken, that all the band members are fresh to the scene, with no previous bands. How did you get together?

Christian: None of us have played in any bands known to the scene before, just small local bands. Markus Janis, Peter Koistinaho, Jonathan Sjöblom and Mikael Lindorf knew each other back from school. I knew the guys because Markus and I played in a band together besides from Corrosive Carcass some years earlier.

Raw Nerve: Congratulations on your new album, it is very gnarly and true to the spirit of Swedish death metal or Swedeath. What is it about this style of death metal you find so appealing?

Christian: It's raw, has good melodies and it´s heavy. But if you listen to our album you will also hear a lot of influences from the good old bands from USA.

Raw Nerve: Swedeath has seen an explosion of bands in the last four to five years, what have been the main influences on "Composition Of Flesh" and Corrosive Carcass?

Christian: Our biggest influences from the Swedish scene must be Dismember, Entombed, Sorcery and Death Breath. The American bands that had a big impact for us are Death, Morbid Angel, Autopsy.
But don't forget all the good thrash metal bands!

Raw Nerve: Cripes a Swedish death metal band unfamiliar to me with Sorcery, will have to check them out. What would you say are the principle components of Corrosive Carcass's music?

Christian: We play this music because it is what we all like; the old school sound just comes natural. We don´t try to sound like any other band, we are just very inspired of them.

Raw Nerve: The guitar tone is slightly higher in pitch than expected but incredibly visceral. Was this a deliberate act to sound a little different to the rest of the bands in the genre? I detected a bit of old Slaughter in the sound from their "Strappado" album, have you heard this album at all?

Christian: Actually it was our sound engineer in the studio that made the sound, we just played on our ordinary equipment. Some old amps and Boss HM-2 pedals, that's it really. I have not really listened to Slaughter, maybe heard them once or something.

Raw Nerve: The sound on the album feels very analogue, is it and if not how did you go about getting such gritty production?

Christian: Unfortunately we did not have access to an analogue studio and we did not want our album to sound digital, lucky for us our friend recorded the album digitally and made it sound analogue anyway.

Raw Nerve: I am unfamiliar with the studio you used to record the album, can you tell the readers something about the choice (where it is and why there) and the recording process for the album?

Christian: Studio 2-takt is a small studio that a friend of ours has. He really wanted to record our debut album and gave us a very good price for it. The recording process went fast, almost too fast. There are some small details that could be better, but overall it came out really great.

Raw Nerve: Would you say that "Composition Of Flesh" captured everything you set out to achieve?

Christian: Yes pretty close, a real artist will never be fully satisfied.

Raw Nerve: How do you go about song writing process, there's plenty of variation on the songs, and pleasingly it is nice to hear some focus on bass lines?

Christian: All members in the band write songs, and that's good because then we get a lot of variation the songs. Sometimes one member writes a song at home and shows the rest of the band at rehearsal or we just jam together. We have a lot of focus on the bass just because its sound good, simple as that.

Raw Nerve: The titles of the songs seem fairly typical in death are there any particular topics you have covered lyrically or is it gore, death, torture etc? Any particular favourites at all?

Christian: Yes it's a lot of gore, death and torture. But if the listener reads the lyrics and uses their mind they will discover that there is more of a meaning in the lyrics that just death.

Raw Nerve: The cover art is hideous and grotesque is that what you are trying to convey to listeners about your music?

Christian: If a person finds this album in a record store he must understand what kind of music he holds in his hands. There is a saying that you shall not judge a book by its cover. In this case you can!

Raw Nerve: How did the deal with Abyss come about as you must have something they want with the number of quality acts on their roster at the moment?

Christian: After recording the "Rot In Pieces" demo, we sent it to some different record labels, Abyss Records liked it and offered a deal. The demo had a very raw and old school sound, which we think the gave the guys at Abyss a nostalgia trip back to the late 80´s.

Raw Nerve: Touring is inevitable in most death metal bands, what are your plans if any, as you have played gigs before?

Christian: Our next step is to contact every festival, bar or place where we can play live. First in Sweden then if possible out in Europe. A dream for us is to go over to North and South America.

Raw Nerve: What has been your best show so far?

Christian: The most important show we made so far was on Getaway Rock Festival which is a big metal festival in Sweden there. Behemoth, Obituary, Dying Fetus, Ghost, Satyricon and Venom also played to name a few.

Raw Nerve: What is a typical show by Corrosive Carcass like? I should have expected this answer I guess, hmmm.

Christian: Head banging, head banging and more head banging.

Raw Nerve: Many young bands tend have tons of ideas floating around, so I wonder what you expect the future to hold for Corrosive Carcass, any ambitions?

Christian: At the moment we are recording four new songs and we have plans on putting them on an EP. Our ambitions are to play many gigs and see the world and keep making good records.

Raw Nerve: A great deal many bands are using online sites to get their music and even offer their music for free, what do you think of this portal for music and would you consider using it yourself at all?

Christian: If someone likes it they should buy the record and support the band. We have spent years of hard work to be where we are today.

Raw Nerve: Do you think that the availability of metal on the internet has diluted the scene and has maybe lost its mysticism somewhat?

Christian: Internet is both good and bad for the metal scene; you can discover so many good bands. The bad thing is that many people download all their music, if you are a fan then you should buy the records if you have money to do it!

Raw Nerve: I know you don't use them but modern extreme metal uses clean vocals a lot, what are your views on this?

Christian: It sounds fucking bad, that's why we don't use that kind of crap in our music.

Raw Nerve: Music seems to have become a throwaway commodity these days, people don't seem to appreciate the effort that goes into the whole process of writing and releasing albums, do you agree?

Christian: We agree, people don't understand how much work there is behind the music, artwork, promotion etc.

Raw Nerve: What was the last album you bought, not downloaded?

Christian: Last time I bought 6 LP´s: Exodus – Bonded By Blood, Destruction – Infernal Overkill, Kreator – Extreme Aggressions, Megadeth – So Far, So Good... So What! Candlemass – Ancient Dreams and Tales Of Creation

Raw Nerve: If you could be in a film or TV series what would it be and which character would you play?

Christian: The Terminator from the first movie, he is bad-ass and evil.

Raw Nerve: Finally do you have any thoughts or messages for out readers and once again I would like to thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.

Thank you Martin. I want to thank all our fans and for those that have never heard us and are fans of old school death metal buy our album you will not regret it! Cheers from Christian Kanto, guitarist in Corrosive Carcass.

With honest assured answers Corrosive Carcass play music like they interview, brief, blunt and straight to the point, exactly like their pulverising death metal. If you are a fan of this style of music, and this helps bring a new name to your ears though, then mission accomplished. Check them out.

DISEIM (Latvia) "Holy Wrath" CD review by rockarollazine

Image

By Javier Salaverry

One of the things I like about my job of being a "journalist" is investigated. And to learn that Latvia was Diseim, I decided to investigate this. I had no idea of a country named! Of course, I researched and found it. It is a European country that borders Estonia ... but that's not important. The important thing is that Latvia comes a death metal band called Diseim and is what I speak here! Diseim is a neat hyper band death metal, despite not being a fan of this style of music, I loved it. Their singer Sergei, is impeccable. Guttural, smooth, neat and incredibly powerful. Fairly precise in what is needed in this type of bands. The music, as you know is oppressive and very distorted, but this does not mean it is accurate at the time of execution. are eight tracks, very entertaining, very powerful and ideal for pogo, especially item 3, "Pyromania" . As this is the band's debut, so I see a great future. I really interested to make a note and know what the scene in Latvia and Europe as they are received. In short, this debut Diseim liked, and my humble opinion, he holds a promising future and would like to know more about this European band. While practicing a style very popular not globally speaking, and do not contribute anything new to it, I think has huge potential and could become known beyond Europe. Surely they will follow the steps!

RADIATION SICKNESS (U.S.) Interview by rawnervezine

Image

By Martin Harris

Radiation Sickness folded in 1992, but now they're back and eager as ever. Martin Harris has a good catch up with Doug Palmer...

Most of us who were around in the 1980s still crave the feeling that time gave, with impassioned bands seemingly forming exponentially on a planet wide scale, with each country defining its own sound with a plethora of underground bands, involved in the massive tape trading scene that was around then, and sadly missed today methinks. By the mid 80s some interesting and strange things were happening in extreme music, such as the onset of proto death metal, the mixing of thrash with hardcore and subsequently called crossover, the morphing of Euro thrash into the harsher sounds of black metal and speed metal was degenerating into power metal. Now, during 1987 a band from Indiana, USA formed called Radiation Sickness and heavily influenced by hardcore blasters Cryptic Slaughter from California. A couple of demos ensued until the band was hit by the tragic death of founder Ryan Rollins, and though the band continued to release demos including the excellent "The Other Me - A Journey Into Insanity" album Radiation Sickness folded in 1992. Fast forward 18 years and the band reformed for a reunion show in October 2010 which catalysed a reformation and new material under the banner of new album "Reflections Of A Psychotic Past" which also contains a remastered version of "The Other Me - A Journey Into Insanity" album. Raw Nerve caught up with Radiation Sickness vocalist Doug Palmer to bring everything up to date.

Raw Nerve: Firstly many thanks for doing this interview it is really appreciated. The band has been around since 1987, can you give a brief history of the major things that have happened, and also what you have been up to after the band folded in 1992.

Doug Palmer: I have been trapped in a world I did not like! I was working on a lot of stuff going on that I did not like, all non musical stuff. I was trapped in a minivan, vinyl village hell but I broke free in 2010 and am back for good.

Raw Nerve: Can you tell us what the current line up for Radiation Sickness is?

Doug Palmer: The line up that recorded the new CD is me on vocals, Mike Herald drums, Byron Holton on bass and Tom Ball on guitar. All are original group members, except Tom. It was great that Ricky did not come back and Tom did. He added more talent, more passion and is just an all around better fit. Kevin Gibson is now doing drums. Mike had life stuff going on and so had to step aside.

Raw Nerve: Congratulations on the new album, I was very surprised to hear that your new material is death metal whereas the older music is predominantly thrashcore or crossover. What prompted the change in genre, as your previous style seems to be having a major resurgence at the moment?

Doug Palmer: All the songs on "Reflections Of A Psychotic Past" were written 91-92. Before the split we had added a second guitar player and just kept going for a faster more powerful sound. With my vocals it will never be death metal. The lyrics were re-written and some of the songs changed a tad but the main guts of the music was written in the early 90's but never released. I love all the old bands getting back together. Just waiting to see Impetigo return.

Raw Nerve: Hmmm the return of Impetigo, now that would be something. Anyway what have been the main influences in the making of "Reflections Of A Psychotic Past"?

Doug Palmer: The major thing is just having fun. That is all we want to do. This is who we are, part of this dark and dirty underground scene. Nothing more to it. See old friends and hang out with new people. It is in our blood it is what we love to do. Just being part of this great thing we all have is the major influence.

Raw Nerve: The sound on the album feels old school, was this something you always aimed for prior to recording?

Doug Palmer: I had no clue what sound we were aiming for at first (well I knew, but was nervous about the new recording methods). Last time I was in a studio was 1990. Big ass 24 track recording studio. This recording was done in the computer age by Bob Fouts (Gates Of Slumber, Nachtmystium, Christ Beheaded , Apostles of Solitude and a million others). We let Bob have free reign on the production (he has been friends with us since the start up). Tom Ball, Byron and I also knew what sound we were going for but Tom played a major role in the production. During the recording I was going through some ugly life changes. Being the control freak I used to be, I eased up to let the other guys run with it. I am very pleased with the sound we got. We wanted an old school sound because we are old school.

Raw Nerve: I like the drum sound on the album, even on the older material, the sound is dominant and very forceful wouldn't you agree, much more organic than a lot of bands' drum sounds these days?

Doug Palmer: Mike was never trained properly as a drummer, he picked up the sticks, blasted like hell and beat the crap out of the drums. I love the drum sound, the speed the power. I'm not a fan of triggers or tap - tap - tap. That is why it was so hard to replace Mike. No triggers was the first rule. I don't want to listen for the drum beats to stay in time, I want to feel them.

Raw Nerve: Too darn right. What are the key elements on the album you are most pleased with?

Doug Palmer: What I am most pleased with is our reunion, the passion still to stay together and record this and keep pushing on. I am 100 percent pleased with everything about the record. The music, sound, lyrics and artwork. We are getting great feedback from reviews and gigs. I love playing live we are looking to hit Europe in spring of 2013.

Raw Nerve: How do you go about song writing process, there's plenty of variation on the songs, and pleasingly it is nice to hear some focus on the bass lines a feature of your old days maybe?

Doug Palmer: Well I love bass solos and fills. Goes back to mine and Byron's love for Cryptic Slaughter. We are all stuck in the late 80's and early 90's. I love the crossover, crust punk era and the start of death metal and second round of black metal.

Raw Nerve: What made you decide to include the "The Other Me: A Journey into Insanity" release with the new material? Do you think it will confuse the listener or maybe some might prefer the older music?

Doug Palmer: I love the sound of "The Other Me: A Journey into Insanity", such a classic underground record. I was surprised how many people in the younger generation knew it. I wanted to include it because it is such a good record from the era and I would love someone to re-release it on wax with a new cover hint, hint anyone???). I wanted to get it out to more people. I don't think it will confuse anyone, I mean the sound of my vocals in different due to age, the recording of the new stuff is much better as Tom is a much better guitar player. Also it is listed on the CD that we're-releasing all the old stuff in due time.

Raw Nerve: The titles of the songs are fairly atypical of death metal, can provide some insight into them?

Doug Palmer: The words are about true life insanity. Things I have lived through for the most part. "Graveside View" is about watching people around you die off as you get older (including my parents). "The Place Where People Die" is about a funeral I went to for an old pal who killed himself. He had four young children. I saw the blank look in their eyes, staring into nothing. They were the ones who also died that day. My lyrics have nothing to do with Satan or molesting dead bodies. It is all dark elements of the human mind insanity if you will.

Raw Nerve: The cover art is interesting and seems quite socio-political with its imagery; does it reflect the ethos or standpoint of the band? I sometimes feel like that guy on the cover, though without my head exploding of course.

Doug Palmer: The cover is a Sociopath or a person with an antisocial personality disorder who is starting to feel remorse for his psychotic past. Look at the images coming out his mind or things he has had to deal with over the years. Now the only way to make peace internally is to slip into a mind altering state of insanity, relapse into addiction and/or off yourself. Not many choices.

Raw Nerve: You have been picked up Abyss, how did that come about? There are some top notch bands on their roster, so you must have something special about you.

Doug Palmer: I have known Danny from Abyss Records since he was like 15 years old. He went to high school with a lot of the guys in Radiation Sickness when we started this thing in 1987. Yes Abyss is working with some top notch bands and Danny has a passion for keeping the underground true to the roots he has done a great job with Abyss.

Raw Nerve: You have played some shows with a lot of high profile extreme metal acts, what experiences did they give you and did they influence the album in any way at all?

Doug Palmer: Tough question. We have played with outstanding bands from Autopsy to Repulsion, Macabre, Cannibal Corpse, Transgression, Phlegm, Impetigo and Suffocation all when they where starting up. I think they all played a role in the music one way or another. I am just glad we got the chance to play with them all. We will again I am sure. Already booked with Deceased (Look out King) in 2013.

Raw Nerve: Will you be playing the older material live as well, as I wish I could see that. I think it will be funny watching the death metal fans listening to the crossover stuff, even though it's all metal to me?

Doug Palmer: We play a lot of the old songs when we do gigs When we where coming up we would play with pure punk bands, crossover bands, grind and death bands. Hell we played the A Day Of Death, the first death fest in 1990. People love the old stuff. I think there are too many break downs and classifications in music today. If that shit is good, it is good.

Raw Nerve: I know the album has just been released but with only 7 new songs do you have any more material already in the pipeline?

Doug Palmer: Yip! And that's all I have to say about that. But, it will be fast and heavy with a lot of stop and goes and speed changes! Seriously.

Raw Nerve: What would you say is the vision for Radiation Sickness now that you have the album out?

Doug Palmer: The vision is to have fun. Play shows with old pals doing the reunion thing again. Hang out with new bands and meet new people. A tour of Europe (about a three week tour). We were going in 1991 but it fell through. Have fun, if it gets to the point that it is no fun, then it is time to hang it up. Plus a ton of split sevens.

Raw Nerve: What sort of feedback have you had so far?

Doug Palmer: The feedback has been outstanding. I am very proud and I can't thank people enough. Without them there is no Radiation Sickness and we know that.

Raw Nerve: Can you tell me a bit about the scene in Indiana? Any upcoming bands I should know about?

Doug Palmer: Indiana is a hot spot for extreme music. The city itself has produced bands like The Gates of Slumber, Demiricous, Apostle of Solitude, The Lurking Corpses, Christ Beheaded. Coffinworm. Plus you have new acts such as Late August, The Black Goat of the Woods, Nak'ay, Chaotic Neutral and Kata Sarka that you need to check out. There is also Abyss label mates Hordes of Nebula and MAAX.

Raw Nerve: Some trivia if that's OK:

Doug Palmer: Ok trivia, Back around 1989 we did a garage show in Indianapolis with Macabre (yes that one). There was also a band that opened that Tom Ball and Danny from Abyss records were in but I do not recall them (sorry Danny). The place had way too many people there. Macabre got to play their set but a big ass riot broke out, booze, drugs and too many people causing it. Cops showed up, fire trucks the whole works. We were cranking "Street Cleaner" by Godflesh watching it all go down.

Raw Nerve: What would you say is the most frustrating or annoying thing about being in a band?

Doug Palmer: Limitations, we never had as kids when touring, We all have jobs, families, mortgages and so on. We cannot tour like we want to. There is just not enough time to go around. It is always family first. That is a rule we set up when we started this monster back up.

Raw Nerve: Which 3 albums could you not live without?

Doug Palmer: "Money Talks" (Cryptic Slaughter), "Scum" (Napalm Death if you've been living under a rock for 30 years or so, and "Hell Awaits" (do I really need to say who released this).

Raw Nerve: Damn fine choices I have to say. So what was the first album you bought?

Doug Palmer: Damn "Let There Be Rock" (AC/DC) or "Blizzard Of Ozz" Ozzy Osbourne, ridicule shall befall your serious lack of knowledge of classic albums if you do not know this album. Not sure what one but I was hooked for life.

Raw Nerve: What was the first band you saw live? What was it like?

Doug Palmer: The true first concert I went to was Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers not sure when. Around seventh grade I think? I loved it, stoned out of my mind.

Raw Nerve: Finally do you have any thoughts or messages for our readers and once again I would like to thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.

Doug Palmer: Thank you for the interview and keeping the underground sound alive. Keep it real and sick. Don't download, it takes guts doing labels that are putting everything they have into it. Thank you for your time Martin!

Radiation Sickness really is a throw back to the 1980s when music was incendiary and creatively explosive and with RS you really do get an authentic 1980s band who was there, lived and breathed it. Check out the links and hopefully someone will indeed give their "The Other Me: A Journey into Insanity" release a vinyl reissue edition. Any takers for it.

HUMANGLED (Italy) "Odd Ethics" CD EP review by http://www.dagheisha.com

Image

By divine

Despite the crisis, the market is burdened with outputs of thinness with 1:00 to 2:00 ambitious and exaggeration of filler tracks. Definitely better than offering the Tuscans who give prints four tracks of raging death metal without missing a beat. Two years have passed from onset 'Fractal' and the original lineup were only guitarist and vocalist Andrew Luke Scurb Goreds but 'Needles Of The Blind' marks immediately as the primal aggression of the band has not undergone any change. The intro of the song reminds Carcass but when the basic riff takes over you do not have time to think too much. The only possibility is groped to defend themselves. 'Skinned, To Feel All' and 'Deny You Creed' are two other steps that will please fans of extreme music while 'Smells Acrid' reveals a more experimental influences and rock n 'roll they might find more space in the future. We look forward to a second effort over a long distance to confirm the purity of their impact.

FESTER (Norway) Interview by http://www.bleeding4metal.de

Image

By Akhanant

Through the years of darkness FESTER were in the nineties, an integral part of the Norwegian Black Metal underground scene, released two studio albums and just as fans and critics have suggested that it now really with the band go up should disappear, the band from the scene. Those who know the scene of the albums were regarded as eternal FESTER insider, even if they were not just to grab günsitg. 2011 it was called then suddenly: Reunion! A new album is on the shelves and the mere fact that the band is active again, should be rejoicing so many black root internally. Bleeding 4 Metal take the opportunity, with guitarist and band leader Bjørn "Tiger" Mathisen, the only remaining founding member, lead to a detailed and above all depth interview.

Hello Tiger and thank you for this interview ermöglichst us. How things are going these days?

Tiger: Hi, no problem. Just a long holiday was on the plan and all members were busy with other things than music.

Your new album "A Celebration of Death" is now out there for a few months. What were the reactions to it so far?

Tiger: The overall response was overwhelming! Almost only good reviews, including some top reviews in Metal Hammer, Metal Temple, Metal.de, etc. The reactions of the fans were great too. Of course there will always be someone who will not understand what we are trying to create or do not like it. But as I said, we are very happy with the reviews.

It took a long time to FESTER brought a new album on the market. 17 years between "Silence" and "A Celebration of Death." A long wait for the fans!

Tigers: Actually, 18 years ... he he. I always thought that you have to create something when you have to say something and not "just do it". Of course, 17 years a long time, but returned as the right feeling and the inspiration was felt it was right to revive FESTER. I would guess that this was not the case anymore since the last time in 2000, when we actually get together again.

I guess most of our readers have never heard of FESTER. So let us look back to the early days, times and give them the chance to discover the band. Your debut "Winter Of Sin" appeared 1992nd It sounded very pure, raw and as for the vocals sounded a bit like the Suicidal Black Metal bands of today. What goes through your mind when you remember the days of the first publication about?

Tiger: "Winter Of Sin" was the first CD on the unknown label of Thomas Nyquist - appeared - No Fashion Records. We were proud of this publication! To publish anything more than the other bands that ushered in the second wave of black metal. I agree that the vocals were very harsh, but with the thrashy, heavy metal-like, deadly and doomy riffs, combined with a dark black and feeling it sounded totally different anyway! I also remember that I went with a friend of mine (Thomas Nyquist) for a whole night to Stockholm to receive the CD's. We could not wait until they were sent in the mail ... haha. We were four teenagers who were proud of what they had created.

Two years later, the last album for a long time, "Silence". It was completely different and it sounded very grim, with an atmosphere that I had never heard before on an album. Until today! I would say that the debut of a little more typical of the Norwegian black metal scene was, but "Silence" went his own way and was difficult to classify. Why did you change the sound on this masterpiece so?

Tiger: When we rehearsed the album in the Phat Studios, we knew it would sound very different from "Winter Of Sin". The direction it took was very natural, but it was perhaps a "Fuck you!" at all "Truen" people out there who would take a heavy metal or death metal album not even in the hand. I've told schonmal and I say it again: We have never made music to satisfy a particular audience, and as long as you are honest with what you create, it will be real, no matter how it classifies. I agree that it sounded raw and less atmospheric, but it still has that dark and eerie sound.

If you have the statements of FESTER is pursuing a little, you do not seem entirely happy with it to be. Particularly in terms of the cover, which in the end of your former label Lethal Records was selected. What went wrong?

Tiger: There may have been some misunderstanding because of this album ... I always Meinug that "Silence" was a great record ... Somewhere I think it was melodic, but it was and still is his own "Beast" ... I know some love Lethal's cover of "Silence", but the painting, which was originally planned for "Silence" was a lot cooler! There was a crow on a pole, whose beak was pierced by a branch. I also never got an answer why this has not been used ...

Then there were the years in which FESTER disappeared and little information was available. The only thing I've heard, is that all things had taken the negative side of the black metal scene out of hand. Burning churches, the killing of Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth (Mayhem) at the hands of Varg "Count Grishnackh" Vikernes (BURZUM) and all these things that were once the focus on the press. Many smaller bands (such as FESTER) disappeared from the face of reason. Just a rumor?

Tiger: The aforementioned factors are not all correct, but a factor in many bands break up was the way the scene is developed ... I remember that we got a call from a magazine, when we were in Austria for "Silence" record. They wanted our opinion about the fact that Euronimous was killed. That was the day after the murder. I personally liked very much and Øystein this "War of power", which left there, would not interest me less able. As I said, none of these events was directly related to the resolution of FESTER. It may have been a reason to lose the inspiration, but it was our personal problems and the lack of proper feeling that caused the end of FESTER.

Somewhere on the internet I've read that FESTER wanted to start around the time of the millennium a comeback. Another rumor! True or false information?

Tiger: This is a true rumor! We had a comeback before 2000, but due to Jørgen (bassist) was that in the sand. No Fashion Records also released a re-issue of "Silence" with bonus tracks for our comeback plans.

Unfortunately, bassist Jorgen Skjolden died in 2000 and thus brought the band are any new publication. If I may ask you this ... what exactly happened with Jørgen and you're standing still in contact with his family?

Tiger: I read somewhere that he died of a drug overdose, but I do not know the autopsy report. Possibly. He had many personal problems in his last years and the life was one long struggle for Jørgen at the time, but I'll remember Jørgen always with a smile on my face, because he was a great guy! I'm his mother and visited his grave a few times, but apart from that I have no contact with his family.

What have you done over the years in which FESTER was out of the scene?

Tiger: I was in 1995, the first time father, moved to Oslo for some years and was very focused on my work and family life. I had no inspiration to make more music and had the scene and all that tired. To be honest, there were even 4 years in which I have not even touched my guitar.

Somehow it seems as if you were trying to avoid it, to play live gigs. Are you shy?

Tiger: No, I would not call myself a shy person, but I think playing live is something very personal, and especially in the past I always had the feeling that the people who came to the gigs with the music not so much linked, as I always did. I suspect this might be different, but you're right that I try to avoid playing gigs. I was tired of the types who were down the hall with his arms folded, trying to look soooooo bad. This applies not only FESTER, but also many other bands at the time. The other members are however totally eager to play some gigs, so we'll see what the future holds. But what I can say with certainty is that you do not live in 2012 will FESTER.

What's your best memory about the band, since it was founded?

Tiger: Oh, that's a complicated question! Since there are many, but if I only want to select one or two would be that when we first entered in 1991 the studio to record our first demo, and then as we are "A Celebration of Death" recordings. That all came so naturally was so great and it seemed as if time stood still ...

And the worst?

Tiger: No doubt when we decided our resolution. The fact that everything we had on the SOLID built up was lost.

Ok, let's get back to today and the new album. Are all the new songs on it, or you have used older material?

Tiger: The entire material is new and old material was not used. I had a riff tape, which Jørgen few weeks before he died in 2000, had made and the plan was to use some of it in some songs, but it did not fit into the overall concept of the album, so I decided to stay to leave. Maybe they are fit to a later release?

Please tell us something about the current lineup of FESTER.

Tiger currently makes Thomas Andresen is the main vocals Jon Bakker (KAMPFAR) plays the ax and I play all guitars. In the studio we also have great help from Raymond Pellicer (some guitars, synths, samples, etc.) and Audun Kleive on drums. We also have guest appearances by Mortiis, Guidio St. Roch (YSENGRIN) and Eivind Årseth.

The band has found a new home with Abyss Records. How did you come into contact and how is it like working with them?

Tiger: As published Kyrck Production and Armor 2010 our two demos on CD / LP, I had contact with several labels and distros that sold them. I started to email a lot with Dan (Abyss Records), and after a while came up with the idea of the re-release two albums to. The connection between us and the label is good. They are the right reasons in the business and have some great releases in their back catalog.

Meanwhile, I have "A Celebration of Death" has been heard several times and I think that this album is exactly like the child of "Winter Of Sin" and "Silence" sounds. Influences of these two albums are almost everywhere! Do you feel like a proud grandfather?

Tiger: Hehe, when I think about it, you could be right! I find it difficult to place it somewhere, but yeah, like you are really right. I think it sounds much colder and darker than our first two albums, but I still think that it sounds like FESTER. Yeah, I'm a proud grandpa!

Tell us something about writing, recording, etc. How does it feel after all these years to bring a new album on the world-PROOF?

Tiger: As mentioned earlier, it just felt right! The inspiration and creativity were given long and it was a lot of material written. It felt great! All the main riffs and song structures have been prepared on an acoustic guitar, complete with no distortion ... I wanted to try this to get a structure in place of ordinary akkordbasiertere riffing. The pre-and main guitars were made and then sent to a few vocal Guidelines to Thomas and Jon. When they were ready, they did their part and we have also added some more guitar tracks to the concept to make it darker and more sinister. The drums were recorded in another studio, usually in one take ... Raymond (main producer) has done a crazy job that bring everything together. I think that's the main reason why many people think it is a concept album and it's a long trip to hear the whole album, as the songs piece by piece.

The main contact and receive information about FESTER fans today on Facebook and Myspace. This means that you have no problem with using the Internet (many bands hate that). Will there be an official website in the future? It would be easier for the fans, on news that is definitely true to approach and it would eliminate the entire rumors.

Tiger: I know there are people who listen to him, not even the bands that are present on Facebook and MySpace and also that there are bands that do not use social networks. I mean, it's a question of balance. Apps, Twitter, etc. are not our thing, but it's great to have a strong and fast connection with our followers have. I loved the old days really, in those letters every day in my post box, flyers that were distributed through the mail, only physical things, etc., but you have probably come to terms with the fact that those days are over. At the same time but I must mention that I hate that people download MP3 files (read: steal from the bands and labels) and buy. I love physical formats! There are tons of great underground labels and bands that need to sell 1500 copies to make it to the next release, etc., but if download, people will continue over the things to buy, will collapse all and only the majors survive. An official website will be and will of course include a webshop with PHYSICAL publications and merchandise.

If we're at it, you still have another band called SINCERA running, which uses the epic elements of bands like EMPEROR and DISSECTION. Do you agree with that? Tell us more about it.

Tiger: SINCERA was intended as a project band with members of other bands from our area. It was founded in 2002 by Thomas Aamodt of WITHER / PHSYCOTOC PAIN and me. We have made a demo, we have never released for sale, played a few gigs and had blast samples and turned right on! Abyss released this demo along with some dirty harsh and brutal live tracks from a gig we played together with WITCH HAMMER. The album was released in September last year and was called "Cursed And Proud". The demo tracks are more melodic than FESTER, but still have this old-school feel. The live recordings are a lot more brutal ... This was directly recorded with a handheld camera to be impure, raw feeling in a dark, smelly, small concert, to be recorded. I'll agree with the reference to the mentioned who would still add ROTTING CHRIST. The band is on hold for a while now, but who knows? Maybe we are some of the unreleased songs that we have made record time in the future?

What can we expect this in the future?

Tigers: We will get together in the coming months and once the talk by ... What I can tell you before, is that a lot has been written on new material and will soon appear on demos ... If all goes as planned, the next release something that has never seen anyone. Something big and visual ...

Now people know up some more about FESTER. Do you have something in stock that you have told the press has never previously FESTER? Here's your chance, hehe!

Tiger: Hehe ... Since there will always be stories to tell ... A story that has never been told: I played in 1991 in another band called DEAD HEADS ... We played together in the same rehearsal room as FESTER (in the basement of Jan's (drummer) house. We played mostly cover pieces of MUDHONEY and Nirvana's "Bleach" album ... a nice contrast to FESTER, do not you think?

Thank you for making this interview with Bleeding 4 Metal. We wish you all the best and much success with "A Celebration of Death." The last words for your fans and our readers belong to you now!

Tiger also you all the best spreads and the madness continues. I hope that people anchecken FESTER. Keep playing loud and proud staying

HUMANGLED (Italy) "Odd Ethics" CD EP review by battlehelm

Image

By Anders Ekdahl

I like it when people think twice before naming their band. Humangled are new to me. I have no idea what to expect from them at all. This could be the worst kind of goregrind or the best of death that has ever come my way. What I did get was what to my ears sounds like a cross between Carcass (leaning more towards the Carcass side) and (slightly like) Cannibal Corpse, if you could imagine that unholy union. I gotta admit it took some getting used to before I got my head around it but once accustomed to the sound I was hooked. Perhaps not the most vile or intense death metal to ever come my way but there’s enough goodies on this disc to keep me happy for a while.

HUMANGLED (Italy) Interview by http://www.eraskor.com

Image

By Ermanno Martignano

They return to being alive death metallers Tuscan Humangled, after two years since the Fractal is now the turn of the ep Odd Ethics.

1. Hi guys, although you are on the scene since 1997 do not know your name. Like me, there will be other metalheads in the same situation ... so you can present to our readers?

We started out as kids with the demo tape "Anatomic Butchery", a study-project itself, which had no live feedback, just some reviews on national magazines. The reunion started exactly 10 years after the foundation of 1997 in order to evolve a line-up established and active both on disk and live. The EP "Refoetalize" and later "Edge of Beyond" have served to freshen up the sound and to lay the groundwork for something more complete, and if we are ambitious. The contract with Abyss Records was the confirmation of all the efforts made so far.

"Fractal" our first album has proved successful, and given that there were still elements to be "studio project" see the 2 band members who lived far away, we have worked to perfect a line-up that would allow us more room and evidence more concerts.

2. Odd Ethics comes two years after Fractal with the difference that presents itself as an ep. Why did you opt for this decision, and what we find stylistic differences between past and present?

The choice of the EP is due to the need to crystallize on records the moment of transition between the lineup of our first album "Fractal" and the current lineup. Although the compositions are affected by more heavy loads, because we have spent much time in rehearsal for the arrangements, stylistic coordinates are in line with those of full length.

3. Your devotion to death metal mania seems foreign, as well as account for Abyss Records have chosen to Engli your names. Ritenetela no offense, but it seems almost want to hide your Italian origins have more opportunities for music ... well musically is so bad our nation?

The names we carry with them from the first demo, the other band members have always given us freedom to choose. The proliferation of Italian underground bands and artists interesting but the reality is that there is a real national scene, primarily due to the difficult diffusion of musical culture. Every day there are "imposed" the musical stereotypes of mass market and follows only these.

4. What issues discussed in this ep, how does one of your piece, the first sound or lyrics?

The topics covered in our texts often refer to several types of aberrations and dysfunctions present in modern society, both personal and intimate sociological in Odd Ethics in particular we discussed topics such as blindness and aggressive treatment of medical science, physical pain , hypocrisy and religious cults built for profit.
The composition of music and texts are initially separately; Goreds Scurb develop and inspiration, but during the arrangements for the 2 parts should complement each other.

5. Who is the author of the excellent artwork and simple impact?

The cover artwork is the Finn Marko Somero, with whom we've known for some years and in whose work we have always seen a strong affinity to our thinking in music. The image has been chosen in the certainty that perfectly reflects the music and lyrics of the EP.

6. According to what you gave to your sound wisdom of a veteran like Dan Swano? As fulfilling to know that in his music is his mark?

Dan Swano for us is a true hero, not only for the great works that he composed himself and some masterpieces that produced the Unisound Studios as Opeth, Dissection, etc.., Primarily because he is a hero listens to ideas that are submitted and try to make the product that musicians want, while remaining completely in the position of an external sound engineer. With him, we feel absolutely safe hands on the recorded tracks that are submitting, and personally it is really at hand.

7. Some live in the program during this hot summer?

We just played in Rome for the release party of Odd Ethics, in September we have a couple of evenings in Tuscany, always from destructive content.

8. Question of curiosity: looking at your pictures on facebook, have attracted my attention the fact that you have to live shoulder Necrodeath. Tell us any anecdotes about that night

The evening with Necrodeath remember it with pleasure because there has been a good response from the audience of Livorno, and it worked really great! Necrodeath absolute professional, always available. An anecdote potrerbbe be that, due to some technical problems during the soundcheck of the stumentazione Flegias, Weight ironically invited us to "infamarlo" because they had lost almost 2 hours for check!

9. After Odd Ethics which will be your next steps, a full length in the short term?

We are already working on new songs and definitely want to give continuity to the vein taken with Odd Ethics.

10. Thanks for your time have you spent, and good luck next time!

Thank you for the space granted us and see you soon!

FESTER (Norway) "A Celebration of Death" CD review by http://www.mariosmetalmania.com

Image

By Dennis van Dommelen

Some ressurections are truly miraculous! After a hiatus of 18 years Fester returns with a brandnew album called “A Celebration of Death” In that 18 years a lot has happened. Founded in 1989 under the name Heroic Conduct, Fester launched two full lengths, all being atmospheric black/ death metal underground classics, before quitely dissapearing in the mid-nineties, for different reasons. The story of the group is indeed punctuated with events that have nothing to do with their immense talent: frequent changes of musicians, and even the suicide of bassplayer Jorgen Skjolden 2000 R.I.P.) After the release of the demo's on “The Commitments that Shattered” two years ago the news spread the undergound fast that Fester would come with new material in 2012. So finally after all these years it is here. Fester has always been a very atmospheric band. This has not changed on the new album. New are the industrial influences in some of the songs on for example “Metalized” and on the “Rites of Mortiis” which is a remix of “Rites of Ceres”, the opening track by the old Emperor bassplayer.
Other than that the riffs stand strong on their own more often than not. Just like on their other releases they are reduced and sometimes repetetive and therefore it lookes like they are only offering a basic fundament. One who listens more closely will hear that this is not always true and that is one of the strong points in het sound of Fester. The return of this Norwegian band will not fail to leave its mark on the true underground metal scene. The record offers a really thick atmosphere and is quite well rounded as well. It has real highlights like “Rites of Ceres” and “Last Day of Battle” on it that bring back the true nostalgic Fester sound that remarkleby has been hold in tact over all these years. And besides that it hasn't got any real failures either on it. I question the fact that there are a lot of newcomers who will truly understand the meaning of this monstrous and unique band. This is not fast or extremely technical like most of todays bands. As stated in earlier reviews I had to listen to this band a lot before really getting the atmosphere and overall sound. But once it graps you your lost, lost in the beautiful world of Fester...

Rating: 86/100
