Well lets hope that they DO record again in the future and play live again. Dammit this sucks for the time being...

It's probably for the better, since they've done all they really could with their sound. This would give them time to contemplate as to where they'd want to go next, I think.

Well, I'm glad they aren't splitting up at least. Hopefully this time off helps them come up with some excellent music whenever they start up again...

In the article they claim they are not splitting up and that it is quite possible that there will be more WITTR albums in the future. I am just an impatient person hahaha. If they do make another album I would LOVE it if they got Jamie Myers to do vocals again. I think she was absolutely wonderful on Diadem of 12 Stars and on "A looming Resonance." Her voice fits so well with the music

Unfortunately, I'm with you on that one. I don't think they're going to do anything else that groundbreaking with that same sound. I mean I really like Celestial Lineage, I bought it on vinyl, but I think if they didn't stop it would be all downhill from there. I think they would end up releasing a few more albums in the same vein and it would just be a bit pointless. Its good when a band needs to call it quits (or in this case enact a hiatus) in order to preserve a good thing. Thats why I respect Isis and The White Stripes for breaking up.

Very disappointing news, especially since Celestial Lineage was, IMO, their best album yet. I hope they can get back to recording soon.
It doesn't sound like they are breaking up either. Seems to me like it's due to personal issues and not lack of interest in music.

I always thought Celestial Lineage was planned as their last album. I thought I read a long time ago the band was gonna go on indefinite hiatus after that and work on their farm or something. Celestial Lineage was a good stopping point cause like others have said they kinda lost steam after two hunters IMO. Great band tho I never understood the hate they received from some people...

Bad news indeed! Love WITTR, My friend told me a while ago that his mate had heard they were on a hiatus but I didn't believe him. Seems he was right.

Celestial Lineage was a great album, although my favourite remains; Two Hunters. Hopefully they find inspiration again to record and play live soon!

Sucks. Gotta love them. Hope they won't split up anytime soon since I don't think they've done everything they could with their sound. These guys have yet to let me down, so...

My only regret is that I have never been to their live performance.

I concur, on all accounts. I believe I read somewhere that they were going to stop playing black metal altogether. Maybe they'll be experimenting with some crust, next?

"In other news, Wolves In The Throne Room recently pressed a brand new vinyl pressing of the landmark 2008 full-length "Two Hunters." The double 180-gram LP layout features a thick, full color Stoughton gatefold tip-on jacket, full color printed inner-sleeves for each LP, and an embossed gold foil stamped logo on front cover. Additionally this version includes an extended intro to the track "Cleansing," featuring vocals by Jessika Kenney, as well as the nearly seventeen-minute-long vinyl-only bonus track "To Reveal.""

Ahhhhh Southern Lord...

Not a big deal their last two offerings were crap, and they just lost most of their creative flow after Two hunters. Who knows they might come back and record something decent but I doubt it.

I thought that they announced this about six months ago?

I've not listened to the band much myself, but I'll try to get round to it. It seems better that they're on hold as opposed to "finished", which is what I thought they planned to do.

...But this isn't from Southern Lord. This is a band release.

As for this news, it really sucks. I'm already awaiting their return haha.

The last album was hipster-indie shit! The first three are great BM albums but the last one just didn't do it for me.

If you think the first three are great and the last one "hipster-indie shit!", I woiuld suggest you sit down and listen a bit more. There's no radical change compared to the earlier ones.

That sucks because they are simply amazing on the stage.

I think its the best option, they are not going to top a masterpiece like Two Hunters, and though their last album is great they staterted to repeat themselves.

At least we can hope for more albums in a not so far future.

I don't know, I loved the first three and couldn't get into Celestial Lineage at all. There just wasn't something quite right about it.

I think that the last album sounds quite similar to their previous efforts, and its a quite good album. The only thing I dont like from Celestial Lineage is that is sounds quite disperse at times, you have a good riff and pace and then it suddenly loses "its touch", after a couple of minutes of unspiring parts then the soungs backs to sound ok, it happens to me in several songs of this cd.

I can totally see what you mean there. It's more of a mood album for me than the others, meaning that sometimes it just won't "click", and other times it's great.
What I reacted to earlier was calling it "hipster-indie shit" when liking the bands earlier material. It just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Maybe while the band is on hold, they can put together a CD reissue of Two Hunters with the exclusive vinyl-only material included on it.

Now this is a good idea! Hope they do as I don't like the idea of spending $46 on getting a vinyl (including shipping)...

This is the best news all year, hopefully this will be another case of a band going "on hold" and slowly disappearing for good.

Easy there, my vampire friend. Don't make me get Wesley Snipes in here to kick some vampire ass. Remember, he has all of your strengths and none of your weaknesses. Just don't audit him.

I've greatly enjoyed their entire discography, from the ethereal cascadian moods of the atmospheric albums (Celestial Lineage) to their more raucous, hard-charging blackened sound (Black Cascade). However, Two Hunters is still my baby. What a wonderful album. Hoping they continue in some form or another in the future.

Good decision. It was obvious they weren't going anywhere and every album following would be redundant, so it's a good idea to hold on and get some fresh air before continuing.

Not my fav band at all, but decent enough, albeit a little redundant.

Honestly Matras, you can like a bands first few albums and hate others. I personally think they jumped on the hipster bandwagon with the last album way too much ambience arty-farty shit, just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Fair enough and you're absolutely able to love and adore some music from a band and dislike some ('hate' is a really strong word). It's all subjective when it comes to taste after all. But that doesn't mean it has to make sense to me, because that "ambience arty-farty shit" has always been there imo. To me it's like saying:
"I hate every other Boltthrower song, because they're stale and use the same kind of riffing".

I only just noticed their status was "on hold"... was a surprise, like some of you I also thought Celestial Lineage was to be their final album of this current project... good to know there's still hope of another release down the track... hopefully reverting to their earlier sound but that may be asking a bit much I think...

I certainly agree. It's cool to see that she's with Sabbath Assembly now, but really gotta love her on Face in a Night Time Mirror.

I hope the band decides to continue recording as well. I really like the atmosphere of their music.
